CHAPTER 250: SECRETS LONG FORGOTTEN

***VITOU’S POV***

“According to the legend, before the twelve gods ascended into godhood, this world was unruly, abandoned and overrun with monsters. It was the twelve gods that brought order to this world so it can flourish forever. Whenever great changes were occurring, Heroes would be summoned as their representatives. The greater the change, the more Heroes would be summoned. They are sent to help the world.

This is what everyone is taught from when they are little. There are countless poems, plays and songs about the glory of twelve gods. No matter who you ask in this world, they will be able to tell you this same legend.

I turned to look at Nakamura and Ishikawa who were both frowning deeply. It seems that the two of them had some problems with this legend.

“Fine, once we’re back, you can head inside immediately. Find out the identity of that man as soon as possible. As for tomorrow, I want you to stay here and keep watch. Don’t let anyone inside, and if anyone comes looking for either me or Nao-chan, just send them away. There is no need to entertain any guests.”

Since Naoko was inviting me for an outing, how can I refuse her? Even though what we were planning on doing was risky and illegal, I agree with her plan and want to make the Royal Family of Vilikis to suffer a bit. They were the ones to provoke us first and we are just retaliating for a bit.

Nakamura and Ishikawa had left some time ago, but when did the Archduke arrive? I didn’t hear the door opening at all.

“I came to give you a warning. Don’t stick your nose where it doesn’t belong. It is better if you don’t try to find out that person’s identity. At the very least, don’t spread it around upon learning about it. Neither him nor me want others to be aware of him again.”

I stared at the Archduke who had the exact same expression as Ishikawa and Nakamura earlier. I had a feeling that their guesses were spot on and it is a really big deal. If that wasn’t the case, he would not have come here to warn me personally.

“Just who is he to make all of you look so solemn? You didn’t act like this when talking to him. The way you and Naoko treated him shouldn’t make him so worthy of respect.”

“This and that are different. It’s just that his personality is rotten. I can’t do anything about it. However the position he holds is undoubtedly higher than anyone else you can think of.”

I still couldn’t think of anything that could make that person so strong and worthy of such respect. I guess the only thing I can do is wait and promise not to divulge anything I learn about that person. I knew arguing with the Archduke was pointless, so I agreed and promised not to say anything. As soon as I did that he vanished from my room and I was left alone with my thoughts once again.

***NAOKO’S POV***

Aah! Why did I do that earlier? I should have done something else to reward him. There was no need to kiss him as well. What if he gets the wrong idea now? I shouldn’t have been so impulsive.

“Your thoughts are written all over your face.”

“Shoo, go away. You’re not invited. Why did you come here?”

The Archduke was lying in my bed holding a glass of wine in his hands. The picture was really beautiful, but I didn’t dare to enjoy and admire it.

“I came to ask you to get something for me. I assume you will be going to pillage the treasure tomorrow. There should be a vial of black liquid inside. I want you to grab that item for me, I have some use for it.”

“Why not grab it yourself? I’m sure you won’t even break a sweat taking that thing.”

It’s odd that he would ask me to do anything for him. Both of us knew that he is much more capable than I am. I suddenly thought about the words Thanatos-sama left me about helping the Archduke. Did he mean this is the help that he wanted?

“I’ll do it, but tell me why can’t you get it yourself.”

“Let’s just say there is a ban on that item that makes it impossible for me to touch it. If you want to have a happy end and live a free life, you will bring that item to me. I will be nice and tell you some information. The sooner you have your wedding, the sooner you will be free. Also in the near future, the world will turn a bit chaotic, I fear. For now, your reckless behavior and actions have actually prevented a war, believe it or not. Sadly, it will not stop the plans of those hidden in the dark. Anyways, I’ll see you tomorrow.”

With that he disappeared. I was left alone in the room to ponder over his words. Somehow I had a hard time accepting everything that he said. Feeling like I would only end up with a headache, I pushed all thoughts behind and went to sleep.
