CHAPTER 269: THE DEMON RACE

“No wonder you always wear a disguise, I never thought that members of the Demon Race are hidden among adventurers.”

Those are so similar to ones of Succubus Princess and I read about the skin patterns in a book. They should be the orphans of the Demon Race. In fact, this is the first time I came across demons aside from Princess, I couldn’t help but be curious about them. Looking at them, there was not much difference between them and humans aside from the unnatural hair colors and the eye color.

“You’re not afraid of us? Shouldn’t you be disgusted with our features?”

I laughed when I saw their stunned expressions. I bet they never thought that I would be able to accept this calmly. I am aware of the aversion that the people of Doren have against the Demon Race, but for me, it makes no difference. They are all people to me.

“Why? Did you mean to scare me this way? I’m sorry to tell you, but I have seen much weirder things long before. Your effort is weak. Besides, you should be familiar with this.”

I took off my sunglasses and looked at them. They should be familiar with the characteristics of the [Charm] skill just by glancing at my eyes. It is something that belongs to the demon world.

“Succubus racial skill? How can you… I mean you’re human, right?”

“100% human. Actually, this is what I got when I messed with Orzak Dungeon. Also, my receptionist at the inn is a Succubus Princess. You don’t have to worry about me not accepting you. In my clan, no matter who or what you are, you will be welcomed. As long as you don’t betray me, that is.”

I could see relief on their faces as I said that. It must have taken them a lot of courage to tell me this secret, but I am glad they did. It means that they are really willing to act as my hands and eyes. Luckily I can save some money since there is no need to prepare disguise items for them. Good, in the future, the Black Phoenix will be a demon team. If anyone dares to mess with them, I will make sure they are all taught a good lesson which they will never forget.

“Naoko-chan, the Scarlet and Black Phoenix will be at your disposal. I just hope that in the future, once your goal is accomplished. You will be able to accept other members of the Demon Race and allow them to have a place they can also call home.”

I smiled and nodded. What they were asking for is something I already had in mind. I just never thought I would come across other races so soon. I think that this is good. If they mingle with the members, they will be able to relax more and there will be no need to disguise themselves.

“Give me a week. After that, there will be no more need to disguise yourselves while staying in the mansion. If you still want to wear one, I will not stop you, but I hope there will be no need for that.”

It seems I should make a proclamation and ensure that all races are welcome within Dragon’s Descent. It might not be easy to get everyone to accept such a drastic measure and act nicely to those races they despised earlier, but at the very least there will be a start of a foundation for a discrimination free society.

“Since you said so, I will wait. If there is nothing else, I am going to go and accept a new request I have been eyeing for a while, as we wait for the week to pass. Keep Mia-chan by your side, she can also act as a guard. I will also be more assured with her by your side.”

I bid them all goodbye and only Mia and I were left alone. She seemed to be tangled and kept avoiding eye contact. I guess she is still worried about how I will treat her, now that I know her true identity. I don’t care about it, she will realize sooner or later that I don’t plan on treating her any differently.

“I’ll go and discuss some measures with Dogusu. If anyone comes by either send them away or have them wait. I don’t know when I will be back, so make sure you tell them that. Later on go and check on your small wyverns, be careful with them as they may be prone to more illness.”

“Eh, aren’t you angry with me?”

“Why? You’re still Mia, aren’t you? Besides, Princess is a Succubus and Fulgy is a Dragon. Do you see me treating them differently?”

“But… I am Demon Race.”

“So?”

She shut up and didn’t answer. More like, she couldn’t answer. I don’t know the true extent of discrimination the Demon Race receives on the daily basis, but for me, who is not part of this world originally, there is no need to look down on anyone, regardless of race.

In the end she smiled and went away. There is no need to worry about her. She will come to terms that she is just like everyone else. While mumbling a happy tune, I once again went towards Dogusu’s study.

“Honorable Boss, what do you need me to do? All of us are available to carry out your orders. No matter what, we will make sure to fulfill them.”

I hadn’t entered the room and Dogusu was already standing next to me. I really admire Thanatos-sama for being able to create magic like that. But, why would they be so servile while being under my rule. I never wished for them to undermine themselves in front of me.

“Go and make an official proclamation. From now on Dragon’s Descent will be open for members of all races to join as long as they prove loyal to us. There will be no discrimination allowed based on race. This includes Dragon, Elf, Dwarf, Fairy, Beastmen and Demon Race. Now that I am in charge I will make sure that everyone is welcome here, no matter where they come from. This will be one of the basis of the clan and in the future those that are caught discriminating against others will be punished accordingly. I want it to be effective immediately.”

He didn’t say anything and immediately went to work. This time around the one stunned was me. Wasn’t there supposed to be protests from him, or at the very least some dissatisfaction? I merely stood in the doorway and watched him write down the proclamation and stamp it with the official seal before sending it out.

“It has been done. There should be no need to worry about much dissatisfaction and members disagreeing. After all this is something the Boss said herself. You should not be worried, most adventurers will come in contact with Demon Race while accepting high level requests. We are simple people and don’t want to cause unnecessary conflict. If you were dealing with nobles, this would not be so easy to do. They are the ones that are most vocal and spread such a bad reputation of Demon Race among common citizens. As for us, as long as we share a drink or two, we will call them friends.”
