WHAT?! December 23rd? That is only three months or so away. I was looking at a more realistic number of five months. If I want to make everything in time, I’ll need to make a plan B.

“Your Majesty, I ask you to allow me to head out for Sunset Islands in two days’ time. If the Heroes want to tag along, they should be provided with flying methods. I plan on flying there now that we are pressed for time.”

The three stage moving plan I had in mind will have to become a two stage one. I will bring the entirety of the treasury with me. That means more people will be coming along with me to this trip.

“You can go, but all of you must be back here in forty days. You will roughly have a month to deal with the matter of your territory. Right now the harvest is being collected. You will be in charge of collecting the harvest tax. As for the heroes, they will follow you on wyverns. There are more than enough of them thanks to you. Sending a few is not a problem.”

Those poor babies, they must have been enchanted to go through the growth period. I know that the kingdom couldn’t wait half a year or so to let them grow normally, but they could have at least given them a month or two more before using that magic.

“Thank you, Your Majesty.”

“Vitou, you should prepare as well. Since Naoko only took the position recently, make sure you show her the ropes. I’ll leave it to you to write a report on how she manages the Dukedom. I do have a feeling she will be able to learn it quickly.”

“As you say, father.”

We were dismissed, but that didn’t mean we were free to go. In fact, all those nobles present mobbed us the moment we tried to leave. Now that the date was established, everyone wanted to greet and flatter the two of us, just to ensure that they got the invitation.

Thank god I planned to set off the day after tomorrow, because by the time I was released from the grasps of nobility, the sun had already set. I didn’t stay in the castle and moved to my mansion. I went to find Dogusu and had him informed about the change of plans.

“Go and inform the first two batches of members who were supposed to move a month from now and tell them to pack up and be on the pier a week from now. Also, call the Black Phoenix members, they will have the job of guarding the treasury as soon as they arrive.”

I need to have the treasury set up on the island to ensure the members will be well off and that they can have enough money and items to bribe the locals and keep themselves well and safe. If I don’t leave them enough resources their path, and mine as well, will be thorny in this new place.

“Honorable Boss, why the sudden rush? There should still be more than enough time.”

“Don’t ask me about it. I had hoped to have more time to develop Sunset Islands before  the independence is announced, but the King is in a rush. I can’t wait for months, as it seems.”

If we only pushed that date two months further. However there is no use crying over spilled milk. What’s here is here, I just have to adapt to it. I only hope that in the meantime nobody messes up my plans. And that mainly goes for the Heroes and Vitou.

“Then, you should expect them to arrive in a week or so. Hopefully, you will be able to find a good place to settle down on the islands by then.”

“I’m not worried about settling down, I just feel rushed to do everything in time, as I have planned it out. Stop worrying about me. I will be fine, just make sure that everything is ready on the side of the clan.”

When I returned to my bed it was already daybreak. I wanted to get some sleep and then go on with the rest of the day, but no matter how tired I was I couldn’t fall asleep. The only thing I could do is think about that fast approaching month of December. For some reason I kept having a bad feeling about it. As if the whole world will change on that day, and not in a good way.

“Aargh, it’s impossible to sleep now, so why bother. I might as well do some productive things.”

I took out the Obsidian Curse earring and decided to practice with it and once again try to make it recognize me as its owner. So far, I was pretty unlucky and after the close call I had in Vilikis, I decided to put it in my inventory and not take it out for a while.

I took a deep breath and put on the earring and prepared for the assault of countless cries and screams. I was determined to last long enough and to raise my mental resilience. Even though the skill had some detrimental effects on my other powers, I still should raise it up to be prepared, just in case. Who knows, it might come in handy if any of my ‘brothers’ decide to use some weird magic.

However, when I placed the earring on my ear, there was no such attack. I was stumped because I had no idea what to do now. I don’t know how to make this item submit to me. Because I could still feel the annoyance coming from it, I was sure that I was not regarded as its owner.

“Why are you here again? I thought I made enough of you give up, but why won’t you just leave me alone?”

The voice was clear in my head and I realized that this must be the persona of the item. This is amazing, I had no idea that items could also develop intelligence. No matter what, this is a priceless accessory and I must own it fully. I was ready to fight until it submitted fully.
