CHAPTER 34 – BLACK HAND

*GUILD MASTER’S POV*

What the heck is this? How can Naoko-san be this strong and have so many elements at her disposal. I saw her status from when she joined, no matter what she couldn’t have grown this much in such a short time. This is not some simple thing, to control so many elements, is this skill ability?

But what if she is using spirit magic as she told Irina-sama? How can she possess such purity of an element? In front of her fire magic the one Irina-sama summoned was akin to dirt in front of clean water.

“Strike her down!”

With such a simple sentence she caused mayhem in the arena. I can’t block an attack of this degree. I don’t think anyone present here would be able to stop it. I had thought that I would be able to cast a barrier to prevent her from killing Irina-sama but against such power I would only end up exhausting my mana and I wouldn’t be able to stop the attack.

A deafening roar and a bright light filled the arena and in the next moment Irina’s body came collapsing on the ground. This is beyond terrible, once duke Loren hears about this, he will try to take my head along with Naoko-san’s. I moved towards Irina-sama but Naoko-san spoke up.

“Stay away, her life belongs to me now. I’ll make sure she spills everything before so many people.”

What? She wasn’t dead. How could she have survived that? I stared at Naoko-san, there was only one explanation; she held back and didn’t let her die.

“Naoko-san you already won, how about letting her go? Forget the bet, this is already over.”

“Betting her life and losing is her own fault. Her life is now mine. I do not plan on letting her go just yet. Do you wish to oppose the rules of an official duel, guild master?”

She got me. I as a guild master am more than aware about these rules and that each adventurer is responsible for their own actions. I could use my power of a guild master to make her obey me but it would be showing plain favoritism. Truly, Naoko-san is not only a Queen in name but in her actions as well.

Naoko-san walked over to her opponent and stood silently over her just looking down. The entire arena was silent. Her eyes seemed to have glowed for a while before she took out a knife out of thin air and ripped apart the Irina-sama’s shirt exposing her back.

That’s it, I’m interfering. Naoko-san is taking this too far. Not only did she claim her life, but she also wanted to shame her. I could not allow it; I approached in a flash and immediately froze. As Naoko-san moved away countless screams and yells spread through the arena.

The reason for all this commotion was the ultimate proof of betrayal against the country and the entire continent. There across Irina-sama’s lower back stood a large crest of a black palm holding a horned skull. It was the crest of the most notorious organization in two kingdoms.

The crest indicated that The Undying Necromancer personally selected this member to his group; Black Hand and also worked as shackles that prevented the members from speaking about him.

How could have Naoko-san known this fact about Irina-sama? She not only knew where the mark was placed, but also knew that she had to hold back in order to expose her. Just how was she able to pull it off?

“Guild master I assume you have no complaints on my claim of life right now?”

“I.. She.. no, I do not.”

I heaved a long sigh and I stepped back. No matter what, all Black Hand members are kill on sight order. Just by showing proof before killing Irina-sama was giving me, her and the Duke enough respect. Naoko-san nodded at my actions and pointed her palm toward the crest. I didn’t hear her say anything at all but the next moment the crest which was also a seal and a curse shattered.

Heavens above, what did she do just now? How can she remove a curse like that? Not even the strongest priests were able to purify it and yet she did it so carefreely. Besides, she wasn’t supposed to know light magic that can purify curses. However, she was still not done. Taking her dagger she slashed her palm letting the blood drip on the floor.

“I call upon you with the contract of blood. Come forth; Hell butterfly Daphira.”

What the heck was that sinister sounding chant? The blood that flowed from her
dispersed into countless drops forming a mist and a huge circle brimming with magic appeared in the arena. Soon the mist came converging and slowly forming a shape. I recognized it, didn’t Naoko-san walk with it all the time lately. It was quite distinguished shape of a giant butterfly that everyone came to see in the past few weeks. However never have I thought that it was a living creature.

“Nao-chan, why didn’t you call me earlier? I wanted in on the fight as well. Oh, it’s not like you can go back in time now and besides you didn’t need my help in the end did you?”

“If it weren’t for you I would be dead ten times over. And it is not like I don’t need your help at all. There is something I want you to do that is your specialty. It is time for her to give us a confession about some things.”

“Understood, this will be easy, her mind is already in confusion and death aura is strong around her, you didn’t pull your punches too much.”

What the heck? As far as I know only high ranked beasts can hope to learn human language and this one seemed to be listening to Naoko-san’s words. How did she even bring this beast inside the arena? Her blood must have played a part in it but I still couldn’t explain everything about it. But I am certain it was through magic.

The butterfly flew over to Irina and attached itself to her neck. It looked like an ornament the way it stood unmoving. Naoko-san you are turning more and more of an enigma, I can’t even fathom what you will turn out to be in a year’s time.

“Irina it is time to wake up from your little nap. Dispel!”
