CHAPTER 40: BACK TO KAPITALIA

***HIIRO’S POV***

A month has passed since we met with Nao-chan and travelling the region was finally becoming somewhat fun. To be honest, after getting demolished by Nao-chan who didn’t receive any proper training like we did really hurt and I was quite depressed especially since she said that she learned it by fighting constantly and wielding a sword in many battles, but honestly I had no idea how could she do so much in mere two or three months.

Also she didn’t even use magic while fighting against us. Only the first person that fought at the guild arena made her go serious. She must have not thought about us being worthy opponents at all. Aren’t we supposed to be the strongest as we are heroes? And yet we couldn’t even get a girl without any divine protection to take us seriously. This really was a blow to our
pride.

“Hii-kun you look troubled, what is wrong?”

“Mai-chan, you’re back. No, I have just been wondering if we became stronger.”

“You’re still hung up over that loss? Well I am as well but we are stronger can’t you feel it. All the fighting even against the smallest fry will add up experience and we grow each time. By losing to Maeda-san we were able to grow stronger.”

I held Mai-chan in my arms, she’s right we’re different now. Each one of the natives in our party was praising us how we became less hesitant and in turn much stronger. That’s right. If we go against Nao-chan we won’t lose that easily.

While I was lost in thought, Nakamura burst into the room making me jump up in surprise. Mai-chan was also shocked to see him so flustered and out of breath. If there is anyone that cares about his image it is Nakamura, to a point where he always tries to keep his calm, no matter what happens.

“Oi Nakamura, what happened? You look unbecoming of a Hero.”

“Inoue-san, Nakanishi, there have been summons from the king, we are to return to Kapitalia. Viscount has employed us to escort him there immediately.”

Summons from the King? Didn’t that happen only during emergency? All three of us hurried towards the Viscount’s house where we were briefed on the situation. Apparently a high noble is being brought in for trial of treason in front of the king and all members of the royal court, aka every noble in the kingdom was needed to be present.

“Here’s the deal, it was reported that Duke Loren’s granddaughter was killed as a member of Black Hand, and he decided to take revenge against the person that was in protection of Earl Orzak. Luckily the Earl was able to overpower him and put him in custody. This is a serious offense and it calls to suspicion that he might have also worked with Black Hand which will be determined in trial.”

Earl Orzak, wasn’t that the noble from Nao-chan’s town. I just hope she didn’t get involved with any of this. Black Hand is notorious organization and Nao-chan is such a pure angel.

“Viscount Komur, do you happen to know the name of the person that was sheltered by Earl Orzak, the one that killed his granddaughter?”

“Hmm, it was only said that a strong adventurer uncovered it all. However, I do know that person will come to Kapitalia as a witness in the trial. You as heroes can participate, so you will be able to see once everything starts.”

I looked towards my companions and they all nodded in unison. It seems we were all concerned about Nao-chan. Our trip back to Kapitalia is a bit earlier than planned, but all this seems quite the occasion.

“In that case Viscount, Viscountess, we shall do our best to provide escort for you until we reach Kapitalia. It will be a great honor to travel with you.”

“The honor is ours heroes.”

And so we set off for the Kapitalia. From Viscount Komur’s land to the capital city it would take roughly eight or nine days of slow paced ride. There were no wars and the road between main cities was mostly safe so we arrived without any delays. But somehow I wasn’t happy.

I wanted more. I wanted to fight more and get stronger, so that I will no longer be looked down upon by anyone, including Nao-chan. I envied her, she was already settled down in that town and considered a local by those living there. I on the other hand felt like I needed to do more, much more than what I have been doing all this time.

That is why the very same day we returned to the capital I immediately went out to learn more about this person and if it was Nao-chan. But from what I heard from others I had my doubts cleared. Mainly the person had a title Elemental Empress and had five elements she could control. She was dubbed an angel, goddess, hidden hero and many other names. Nao-chan didn’t have all five elements and I was certain of it

Knowing that Naoko was not involved with all this, I decided to spend my free time until the trial practicing and subjugating monsters at the guild to improve myself and stand on top of all heroes and eventually the world.

***CERBEROS***

“Hey Nord, it seems our Orzak went through a small crisis, the Earl is bringing in Duke Loren for royal trial. We have to go back.”

“Hmm, ya have no choice do ya? Well our job’s long finished, but lettin’ this sake spring go will really be a waste.”

“You drunkard, we loaded thirty barrels already and walking there from this town is
already a pain in the neck. Just leave it.”

“… Naoko… be fine…”

“Lassie’ll be fine. She has brains to not go ‘gainst the duke.”

“We might see her if she gets the escort request. I do want to see her again after all she did have interesting magic I want to talk with her more.”
