CHAPTER 51 – SELLING THE MATERIALS

I carefully made my way through the crowd. Seriously, what is wrong with all these people? I felt so much killing intent coming from them you’d think I have killed their aunts or something, when all I did was pass by them. Also they didn’t spare any curses or cat calls, I was thoroughly disgusted with this branch.

Finally getting to the area where the monster materials were being purchased and sold, I stood at the end of what seemed to be the only visible line in this whole mess. This place had less people, but everyone seemed to be even more rude. And among all that, in front of a single counter, people all stood motionless not talking and going one by one. However, all of them seemed to look nervous and uncomfortable.

Seeing that it was more peaceful than any other area, I moved over there. I might as well get my turn sooner there than anywhere else in this place. As I entered the line, I was immediately hit with killing intent, unlike anywhere else inside this room. For a second it froze me in place. Immediately, I realized why everyone was behaving so well. Investigating, I could easily pinpoint the source of this killing intent being the old man at the counter. He had a polite smile as he was talking to the adventurer selling materials, but I knew I was right about him pressuring us all.

“Little girl, try not to puke, it seems you were also unlucky to be pushed into this line.”

The person in front of me was gritting his teeth as he spoke. Could it be that he didn’t want to be here? I shrugged and waited. The old man at the counter was without a doubt strong and he had a lot of battle experience, otherwise he wouldn’t be able to create such pressure.

Thinking about it, I kinda want to meet this person in battle one day. Unable to suppress myself I licked my lips in desire for a good fight and released my own killing intent that became like a cloak around me. I heard several yelps from people in front of me who were now openly shivering. Why so scared, aren’t you also an adventurer? The old man seemed to have noticed me though.

The next moment all killing intent stopped, and within seconds everyone ran away leaving me with a free line to the counter. How weak, to run away from such a small threat. Disappointed I got to the counter and greeted the old man.

“Good morning, I’m here to sell some monster materials, but there are a bit more than what you would expect and they haven’t been dismantled, will that be okay?”

“Young Miss, good morning to you too. What a nice change to hear such polite talk and from such a strong and promising adventurer. Of course, we will buy monster corpses, but since they are not dismantled the price will be lower, but you should already know that.”

It seems this chat was causing some commotion among those standing close to us. Seriously, why are you so afraid of the old man, he is really nice.

“Yes… let’s just say I can’t stomach dismantling them, also since money isn’t a problem why not leave it to others. So, just in case, what is the limit for purchasing?”

“First time I hear such reason, you’re able to kill but not dismantle. You are one interesting girl. You are not from around here, are you? Anyways we should be able to buy any amount no problem.”

“What made you think so? It is as you say, I’m from the outskirts, only arrived to witness the Duke’s trial. The amount is really big. I don’t want to clutter your dismantling and storage area so that others cannot sell.”

“It is because you don’t look as sheltered as the rest of the brats here. The central area is really calm and safe, so there is no real threat of death if you pay even a little bit of attention. You however, have greeted death many times I feel. You must have fought many strong enemies, even though you are so young. Don’t think that I didn’t notice your reaction to my pressure, you wanted to fight me, didn’t you? We have the capacity to hold over ten thousand monsters so you can see why the number isn’t a problem.”

Sheltered brats? This is not the way sheltered brats behave, but it did seem odd none of them could endure the pressure this man excluded.

“Then it is fine. I have 2578 bodies to sell of different races and danger threat. I can sort them out and list which species and amount I have but it will take too long. I can go with you to the storage and unload them directly there and save you the trouble of transport.”

My exclamation made dozen people or so turn around and stare in disbelief, both staff
and adventurers. How the heck did they hear this among all the noise inside the room? The only person without a reaction was the old man in front of me.

“That will be really helpful. Please follow me, just past this door.”

He pushed a side door letting me behind the counter. He walked slowly with a cane at his side. I felt numerous stares from the back of my head. Slowly, following a narrow passage we reached the storage. Much to the disbelief of all the people present there, I unloaded all 2577 bodies from my inventory. Their faces all lost color upon seeing the pile but I decided to ignore them.

“This is all, basing on your estimate what do you think this is worth?”

“I would say somewhere between 500 to 700 gold, depending on the species and their age. I will write you a note with which you will be able to pick up your money at a later date, once the correct number is calculated, is that okay with you?”

“Of course, thank you for your help.”

“It’s only natural, young Miss.”

“May I ask you about the situation at the guild? Why is everyone so unruly? Aren’t they afraid of the guild master and the punishment?”

“The guild master is away. He is on a trip to Vilikis along with some high ranked adventurer parties. Basically, there is nobody left to get this brats in order. Who could have expected them to act in such manner, however nobody is crazy enough to take on 15 thousand people at once.

Oh wow, I definitely wasn’t crazy enough and don’t want to deal with that. Bidding goodbye, I took my note and on the way out made sure to get my 30 gold that I won fair and square earlier. For some reason, the teacher acted extremely submissive to me. I didn’t expect such a change of character. I like it though, less trouble for me.
