CHAPTER 6 – TOWN OF ORZAK

It has been two weeks since I have arrived on this world and joined Nord-san’s party
when we finally arrived at our destination the town of Orzak. According to Colt-san Earl Orzak is a peculiar noble that has no interest in political affairs whatsoever but he was awarded the title of an Earl for restructuring agricultural methods proposing two field rotation and for showing great battle prowess against a monster invasion five years ago.

It was also to him that they needed to deliver the letter as well as receive a package that the guild master needs. Entering the town was not a problem and since I was with Nord-san, Colt-san and Blink-san I was able to enter even without any identification but I needed to create
one as soon as possible.

Since I didn’t know anything about the town I decided to wait up until the rest were done with their request and ask them for their recommendations about the town.

“Lassie, did ya wait all along? You could have gone shoppin’ while you waited.”

“Welcome back, I still don’t know my way around town and it would be really embarrassing if I got lost. So I decided to wait and ask you about any good places that you know of.”

“You sure know who to ask. Lemme tell ya, Azure Dragon is the best inn in town and the best beer is at the guild. You don’t need to know anything else. Let’s go lass, nothing like good beer after a job done. I’ll buy ya a drink.”

Maybe it should be wise to tell him that I cannot drink. First I was underage and second I can’t tolerate alcohol. One drink and I can’t remember anything the next day. However I also do not want to decline since we will be parting ways soon. They are the first people that I met on this world and they all turned out quite nice.

“Before that, Naoko-chan what do you plan to do now. Do you plan on settling down here or will you go and search for whoever left you here without any memories?”

“Actually Colt-san, I was thinking of becoming an adventurer just like you guys. Hopefully one day I will be as strong as you guys.”

For some reason the three of them looked very surprised to hear my words. Is becoming an adventurer something unusual? I thought in light novels it is the only way to go.

“Naoko-chan, are you sure about your decision. You should know that being an
adventurer is an extremely dangerous job. You should think carefully about this decision. Also don’t you want to learn about who did this to you in the first place?”

“It’s okay, I already decided. Besides I already know the person who did this to me, it is just that I have absolutely no way of reaching him whatsoever and since the case is as such, there is no point it trying to do something impossible and only undermine myself.”

“Lass, you are sure strangely mature. But you becomin’ an adventurer might cause some trouble. But let’s not dwell on it. We’ll think of something. Come we’ll show you around town.”

Why would it cause trouble? Is there some secret among adventurers that I cannot know, which will cause me trouble? Don’t leave me hanging like that Nord-san.

They were definitely keeping something from me. I could see it in their eyes. All three of them knew exactly what this trouble meant and they didn’t want me to know. But Nord-san was right there was no point in dwelling on it.

The afternoon passed along with a leisurely walk around town featuring all the inns and
restaurants they have been at describing both pros and cons each place held. I didn’t expect such detailed tour since this town was rather remote.

Before heading out for a drink we made a stop at Azure Dragon where we booked a
room. It was 120 Lyr and it included two meals and a basin of hot water. The receptionist and the owner of the inn, Mylene seemed quite friendly and acquainted with all three of them.

Finally after everything was finished and we ate a meal, it was time to head towards the
Adventurer’s Guild. It was the second largest building right next to the Earl’s mansion. I was extremely excited to witness a real life guild like that.

“…Naoko…Everything will be fine…”

Blink-san seemed to have misunderstood my trembling and thought I was scared so I
quickly reassured him and told him not to worry about me. For a person like me, this was way too exciting as if it was something right out of a story.

Unable to hide my excitement I hurried ahead of the rest of them and pushed open the door of the guild. The smell hit me immediately… and it was hideous. Sweat, alcohol and smoke, you couldn’t hope for a worse combination. And yet I was expecting it. Looking around the room it seemed to have been divided into two areas. To my left were the counters and to my right was a bar. A lot of people turned this way when I entered some even exerting pressure this way.

Ah, this was it. This atmosphere, this sensation, this place was simply amazing. Behind me, Nord-san, Colt-san and Blink-san seemed to have sighed in relief when I didn’t piss myself from fear. Just how worried were they about me. I told them already I am not a kid.

“Naoko-chan, you can go and register over at one of those counters. We’ll sit down somewhere so join us once you are done.”

They left and greeted many adventurers who were happily chatting with them. The trio seems to be quite famous around this place. I wonder why exactly was that, could they have done something impressive for this town?

Despite the cheerful tone Colt-san had when he talked to me, I couldn’t help but notice
there was some pity in its tone as well. Is it because I was a woman and this was mostly a men’s job? Foolish! Going over to the nearest counter I greeted the young man that was working there.

He had short-cropped brown hair and large green eyes. His appearance seemed somehow unusual but it added to his charm. Seeing me approach he smiled and greeted me.

“Good evening young miss. My name is Nino, how may I be of help to you”

Uwaah, such a lovely voice, and so polite as well. This perfectly complemented his looks making him seem almost like out of this world. That is it, I’ve decided to make him my designated receptionist once I join.

“Good evening Nino-san. I would like to register with the guild. My name is Maeda
Naoko, Naoko being my given name.”
