CHAPTER 85: THE LAST FIRES OF FIGHTING

***VITOU’S POV***

Holy smokes… where did that wolf come from and what does she mean ready my magic? Just what on earth is she planning on doing right now, I can’t read her at all. If she used that wolf against me earlier I would be dead before I could even react. How terrifying is she?

Now that I think about it she must have set all this up while the fog was covering the arena. I clearly remember hearing a howl in the arena, so this is what that howl was. Looking at this wolf, I couldn’t help but notice how agile it was. I definitely would not be able to react in time to its appearance and would have lost that match. You really do surprise me Naoko-chan, but right now you are really frightening me. What do you plan on doing with all that mana you have gathered?

The wolf returned to her side and sat at her side obediently. Naoko-chan spoke some words to it before a strange sensation passed through me. It felt like I was being pulled by someone and also being hit at the same time. The next moment I was outside the city.

She did it. She said she would allow me to use my magic freely and indeed that is the
case right now. Using fire magic I began melting the crystals that gave these golems life.

The wolf let out a howl that ripped through the night, but I didn’t care about that right now. My job was to keep the people in Kapitalia safe. And in order to do that, I need to defeat the man in front of me.

“What is going on? What sorcery did she use? How can I be outside the city?”

These golems, almost a hundred of them, were all disappearing one by one and the man couldn’t keep up with the destruction now that I could use my magic freely. Very soon even the last golem standing will be destroyed.

“It’s over… I don’t know what I did to you, but I know I have never met you in my life. I hope you have a mighty good reason for angering me and hurting so many of my people and destroying my city.”

“You sent my daughter to death, if it weren’t for you she wouldn’t have joined the adventurers guild and die. My wife killed herself after hearing about it and I swore to heavens to make you pay for their lives.”

I cannot believe this. This man is completely insane. Not only is he angry for an unreasonable cause, but he also caused so much pain to countless others in his senseless revenge. I took my sword and held it up to sever the man’s life.

“Long rule the Black King!”

A member of Black Hand as well, without hesitation I brought my sword down and killed the man. It was finally over, with the magician dead there should be no more golems appearing and those inside the city should already be taken care of.

Looking down on the dead body and the scorched land of the field I was standing I felt proud about being able to defeat the enemy that threatened the peace of the Kingdom. Even against so many of them, I was able to hold out without any problems.

“You are still unfit to be a ruler as you are right now. You are still too naïve.”

I jumped at the sound of his voice. This man comes and goes as he pleases and he doesn’t bother with any curtsy customs. I am a Crown Prince after all, shouldn’t he show some respect and not talk down to me.

“I just saved countless civilians, what makes you say that I am unfit.”

“Because you lost sight of what is important. Also don’t think for a second that your contribution in the battle was the greatest.”

I looked at him confused as he walked away from me. I followed him with my eyes to where he was going when I noticed the giant wolf once again. He was lying on the ground blending with the surrounding night scene.

I completely forgot about Naoko-chan. Where did she go at this moment, looking around I couldn’t find her at all. Could she have gone back to the city to deal with the rest of the golems? I ran towards the man when all of a sudden the wolf began growling at us.

“What the… move away wolf. I need to pass.”

Despite my words it didn’t bother moving an inch. Instead its growls became more threatening. I was about to fight with it when the man spoke.

“Yoru it’s okay. I will not hurt Naoko so let me see her.”

Wait, Yoru? Does he know this wolf? I heard from Nakamura-kun that Naoko-chan and this man knew each other, but to think that he even knows this wolf it seems that the relationship between the two of them is not so simple, for her to reveal a part of her strength to this man.

The wolf, Yoru, waited for a bit before raising his paw and letting the man pass. When I tried to approach, he turned hostile again. Pulling back I waited, soon the man returned this time carrying the unmoving Naoko-chan in his arms. I ran over immediately fully concerned.

“Is she okay?”

“She will be. I will take her home, she will need a lot of rest. She spent all of her mana earlier and used magic that she is not strong enough to use. Just let her be, with a guard like Yoru nothing will happen.”

“How do you know her? What is she to you?”

“Hmm… I guess adoptive little sister would be the best explanation. Come on Yoru, let’s get Naoko to her bed. Make sure to keep her safe later on. I can’t stay for long.”

And just like that the two of them left and I remained standing in the middle of the scorched land. Tsk, one day I will make that man kneel before me and apologize for all the disrespect he showed me.
