CHAPTER 86: THE AFTERMATH OF THE BATTLE

***VITOU’S POV***

It has already been a week since the attack on Kapitalia, twenty eight people have died that evening, mostly civilians and a few soldiers. The damage to many houses were large and will require a lot of reconstruction and most of the work was needed in the northern part of the city.

The magic institutions were all extremely busy after learning about this new type of magic. Upon hearing the reports about it, the members began doing extensive research on the topic and when it became clear the heroes also had some knowledge about the matter, they all became extremely busy trying to bribe them to reveal more information. According to their progress this magic will be announced to the public soon enough.

While I was battling outside the arena, my father took command over the people that were present there and made sure the panic doesn’t spread. Thanks to his calm mind and quick action there were no casualties among the people. As soon as the fighting ended, he ordered the opening of a healing station in affected area to help heal the wounded.

On the third day a large funeral was held for all those that have passed away in the battle. And on the fourth day things finally calmed down and daily life had gone back to normal. The one thing that didn’t change during all this time was Naoko-chan. She was still unconscious, the same as the day of the battle. After the man brought her to her mansion and Yoru began standing guard outside her room, almost nobody could come closer. But from what I saw, she remains as still as if she is a statue.

“Crown Prince-sama, these are the reports on the criminal activity in the city. There has been an increase in burglary and vandalism in the destroyed areas. Please read through them and give advice on how to act.”

“Increase patrols in that area, that will make them less likely to strike again.”

“We don’t have enough people Your Highness.”

“Then hire some adventurers, tell them to act as temporary guards in those parts of the city. Isn’t this what they are used for.”

“As you say Your Highness.”

These reports are always the same. I don’t know why can’t we have a special department that will deal with this stuff. I didn’t want to know every single bit of information being reported to me. Lately, I had more important things to do than listen to reports.

“My son, I see you are dealing with reports as magnificently as ever.”

“Father what brings you here? I was just on my way out to deal with something else.”

“Then walk with me for a bit. I want to talk with you.”

I followed my father out. Ever since I came back from my adventuring trip and took on
my position as the heir, dealing with paperwork and kingdom’s business my father rarely came by. Especially not to simply talk to me.

In the company of several guards, we left the castle grounds and entered the city below. The decorations for the festival that was supposed to be held were still up here and there, but the atmosphere among the commoners was tense. For a very long time there was no fighting in the capital city so the attack a week ago had a big impact on the people living here.

“Vitou, my son, were you able to learn anything about how Naoko-chan was able to move you and a hundred others in an instant? Or where did that wolf come from and just what made her like that?”

“No unfortunately I still don’t know anything. I tried asking the heroes but they were clueless as well. They kept saying it was teleportation but none of them is able to do it, so that was all for naught.”

Naoko-chan has been in a coma all this time, but there is no sign of injury on her and yet she is not waking up at all. We can’t get doctors to come closer for a look since Yoru isn’t allowing them near and her group of adventurers also aren’t helpful since they seem to take the same stance the wolf and don’t allow anyone unknown anywhere near the mansion.

Not only does she have such an understanding and loyal underlings which I still don’t understand how they can worship her so blindly, but she also possesses magic outside everyone’s scope. However, the biggest issue is her being the younger sister to whom is probably the strongest person living on this land.

“It really is strange. Her body looks unchanged ever after not eating anything for a week. It is as if she is outside the passing of time. For her the time stopped the moment she passed out.”

“It is a pity she became like that. Also, father I want to tell you something. I am going to give up the idea of marrying her. I don’t think that I can handle her and I don’t want a target on my back at all the times.”

“Vitou, what nonsense are you saying? You will marry her, she is not someone we can leave unattended. Her might is crucial and we must possess it. Don’t go defying me right now.”

“No, father, listen to me, she is the younger sister of that man that I told you about that had wiped out most of the monster horde three years ago. I do not want that man anywhere near my kingdom.”

A foolish man might have thought about winning him over through his sister, but I know better than that. A man like that will not be swayed, that is why he remains neutral and doesn’t involve himself with politics. He comes and goes just like the wind, but if you ask me, I want him as far away as possible.

“You foolish son, marry the sister and the brother will be ours as well. Nobody will be able to go against us at that time. Besides, keeping an eye on him would be much better than not knowing where he is.”

It appears that my father really is foolish. Heaving a sigh, I let him be for now, as the two of us moved towards Naoko-chan’s mansion.
