A moment later, a concentrated attack from our flying Summon Monsters came next.
The cicada was pinned down to the tree by the arrows, so there was no way for it to escape being ripped to shreds by our flying Summon Monsters.
The cicada went down in no time.

It felt quite weak…
I tried collecting its item drops, but it didn’t drop anything.
What kind of monster was that…?
『I just confirmed something. There’s damage, but there are no abnormal status conditions.』
「What did you guys think of that monster?」
『It was surprisingly weak, I think?』
Yep.
It was quite weak, right?
Were those really the kind of monsters that we would have to deal with on the S2W2 map?
I wouldn’t be surprised if I saw the cicada in the outskirts of Remut.
But I quickly had to retract that statement.
We ran into more Mad Cicadas.
About 10 of them, to be exact.
I didn’t notice them because the Mad Cicadas were lurking behind the trees.
What were their cries like?
Put together, they had quite the force to be reckoned with.

So that’s what they were going for!
Yep, the swarm of cicadas definitely weren’t a joke when fighting together.
And on top of that, because the attacks were based on sound, there was no way for us to avoid taking damage.
The shock waves actually came quite often too, making it difficult to approach the Mad Cicadas.
But surprisingly, Couturier and Denier seemed to be okay with the sound, and after watching them reduce the number of Mad Cicadas, the rest of the battle went smoothly.
It was a monster with the sole purpose of inflicting damage on anything near it.
We tried collecting the item drops from all of them, but we only got one Crystal Ball.
S2W2 was more and more becoming a map I didn’t want to stay in for long…

The girls in the Union seemed quite sick of the map already.
Well, it was a caterpillar, after all.
I couldn’t call to mind a single woman I knew who was a fan of caterpillars.
But even so, this caterpillar was also disproportionately large.
Its whole body was covered with needles.
That fact alone made it quite difficult for my Summon Monsters to attack it.
We had no choice but to keep our distance and attack using our special abilities.
After some time we found out that the caterpillar could spit acid too.
The acid was enough to cause nearby trees to start smoking when the acid hit it.

It was an annoying monster, in a lot of ways!
We managed to take it down with arrows, but it was still an all around troublesome monster.
Those were the only words I could use to describe it.
『Wait, if this is just the caterpillar… What about the butterfly…?』
『Stop, please! I don’t want to imagine it!』
Judging from the situation before me, Irina seemed quite okay, but Konohana was definitely in distress.
Adele and Haruna were okay too.
Hyodor stepped closer, avoiding the Needle Caterpillar’s needles dexterously before stabbing his Survival Knife into the dead body to collect the item drops.
What did he get?
Hyodor got a Magic Stone.
That was a rather subtle reward.
「Shall we keep going?」

Konohana was acting quite strange.
There was some risk with standing around in the forest, so we kept moving to get to the Area Portal as soon as possible.
We decided to use a fly spell.
We changed our Summon Monster teams once again to form three parties of six each. We also made sure that the two Summon Monsters that we did summon were all flying Summon Monsters.
After that was done, we used the fly spell.
If I had to guess what kind of monsters would attack us in the sky, I would say maybe the dragonflies? The cicadas were a possibility too.
I felt bad for Adele, but it looked like it was going to be necessary to fly at a bit of a higher altitude.
The time was 3:10 pm.
I continued to fly using the fly spell and reached the centre of the S2W2 map, at least according to the wide area map that we had.
The ground below us was laid out in a blatantly suspicious terrain.
There were no trees at all.
And instead, there were several tower-like objects scattered here and there.
It was a quite bizarre sight.
The surface also had a strange colour to it, the colour of corn.
There were also holes here and there.
It was bizarre, but I had a feeling that I had seen something like it before.

Well, it wasn’t strange, considering that they were the players that cleared the S3E1 Area Portal, the Sunrise Lighthouse.
We were on the S2W2 map.
In terms of difficulty the two maps were supposed to be relatively similar.
「I guess we’ll have to try again for another place.」
『Yep, I wouldn’t mind heading somewhere else…』
『Oh, but before heading to another map, should we try to collect some needles?』
Konohana was already in the mood to leave the map and head somewhere else.
But Irina seemed interested in grinding the monsters here for needles.
It seemed like they would be good for making arrowheads, after all.
I was quite certain about that too.
The time was 4:30 pm.
We spent a part of the afternoon farming for needles from the Needle Dragonflies by making full use of Call Monster.
But really, there were a lot of dragonflies in the map…
I didn’t think we had been hunting for that long, but we still managed to accumulate a significant number of needles.
I knew why, though.
It was because of Couturier’s mysterious skill, Enticement.
It was a perfect combo for Denier’s traps.
The two of them would run about in the forest, pulling dragonflies from all around us our way. It was about as effective as using Call Monster.
Denier also had no mercy for the insects caught in his web traps.
Well, Denier was a spider after all, I would expect him to have no mercy for the insects.
It might have been exactly because we had insect opponents that Denier seemed so pumped up to fight.
After some time, I managed to figure out the behaviour patterns of the dragonflies too.
The Needle Dragonflies shot their needles at us by bending their abdomens our way.
But the curious thing was that they were unable to bend their abdomens to face directly behind them.
As long as we attacked from behind them, we could avoid taking damage, which made the hunt go by with even greater efficiency.

There were also some personal fruits from my labours.
It wasn’t much, but I definitely wasn’t about to complain.
In any case, where would our next destination be?
After some thinking, I decided to guide Haruna, Konohana, and Hyodor to a certain place.
I wanted to guide them to the place where I fought Deva Kings and the Twelve Heavenly Generals.
They were very good monsters to have consecutive battles with.
And on top of that, they had the possibility to drop various useful items.
I was also quite confident that we had more than enough fighting strength to clear the challenge.
It would probably be good to clear all the challenges there as soon as possible.
There were nice items in store for us too, after all.
