Return of the Fallen Volume 10 Chapter 83

“So you really plan on leaving huh?”

Zephris shrugged.

“Is there any reason I should stay? No family no friends. All I have is my alchemy, my research. In order to find perfection, in order to create, I must know the origin of all things.”

“Are you really that sure? Let’s say reaching or finding the origin of all things is something that is even possible. What happens when you find this origin, does the answer to so-called perfection just naturally appear before you on a platter?”

“You know It will not happen like that, I don’t know why you’re being so condescending.”

“Am I. I don’t think I’m patronizing you, more like stating the obvious before you go out and waste all of your time. An origin, a mystical being that’s been here before there was a here or some energy that birthed the Realms. Does any of that sound plausible or even logical in your mind?”

Zephris was getting annoyed.

“Then what do you think the beginning of all things are and what makes you so sure that my answer, is incorrect. Do you understand how rich that is coming from someone whos literally trying to get their revenge on an actual God?”

Kazuki mulled it over for a second before shaking his head.

“I don’t have the answer to what birthed the Realms. That is information I believe that no one can have. As for my revenge against a God, which is truly more realistic at this point, and which one is foolish? Have you already forgotten that I reached the 7th stage in only a few years? Who knows how much further I can climb in the coming years.”

Zephris ignored this.

“Let’s forget this little spattle, you are obviously annoyed at me. I used you just now to settle the score with Torzz but there seems to be something else on your mind. We’ve known one another for a very short period of time yet you act like there is something that I owe you. Shouldn’t you stop beating around the bush and just say what it is you wish to say before I leave.”

“Have you heard about the recent fight several stars away?”

Zephris raised a brow.

“And just how would I be able to do such a thing? Besides you, Detra, and that bothersome vixen you call an aunt, no one else has as far a reach when it comes to senses. I can move a great distance but my senses and aura just barely reach beyond this world. Anything outside of it is like a thick fog.”

Kazuki nodded in understanding. Most did not have sense like Kazuki, Alutra, and Detra. Alutra of course could sense the entirety of this Realm due to the fact that she was a Demigod. Kazuki could not sense the entire Lower Realm and mainly focused on any disturbances. As long as someone with great strength entered the Lower Realm, their presence would automatically be known. To Kazuki, the moment a powerful enemy tore open the fabric of this Realm and came through, it was like a bright light had lit up in a dark area.

Kazuki would be able to sense them immediately. Detra was a little different. Her powers were nowhere near Kazuki’s or Alutra’s but she was a master at manipulating the element of space. Because of this, even if she couldn’t sense everything within the Realm, she could however sense any change to the element of space. When the fabric of the realm was torn open or someone teleported and locked space etc. Ripples would spread out from the center of such happenings and she would be able to feel and understand what was happening in not only that exact spot but its surroundings as well.

Kazuki briefly explained what happened before telling Zephris what he wanted.

“My eyes have been opened once more. To defeat such a foe, it took the efforts of not only a Demigod but two 7th stage beings to end the smoke creature. All of this was because the bastard had a Divine Soul weapon. I don’t know if another person with such a weapon will ever appear again in this Realm but it’s better to be prepared. Having another person who has unique abilities like yours, could really help.”

Zephris became curious about these so-called soul weapons but at the same time, it was only just so.

(Where I am traveling, I will have other chances to see these mysterious weapons. There’s no need to show interest in these things now.)

“So what your saying is you wish for me to stay so that I can help you fight and protect this Realm. Let me ask you a question. Why would I ever fight for this Realm, fight to protect it? Who am I protecting, no one that matters to me, that’s for sure. I have been trapped for far too long. Trapped in a body that wasn’t mine, trapped in a plane of existence that could hardly be described as an existence at all. No more. I am free, free and I have control of what I do and when I do it. I have no more ties binding me to this place, to this world. I will finally do what I wish without the scorn of others, without the hatred and blame. Nothing will hold onto me ever again. Do you understand what I’m saying Kazuki?”

*Haa*

Kazuki couldn’t help but sigh outwardly. Of course, he understood what Zephris meant. To be able to do what you want when you want to with nothing holding you back or restricting you. That could be the closest thing to true freedom that’s ever existed.

“I get it, I really do but could you not at least help for a little while. At least until our defenses have been brought forth to reality and are in place. Do this as a favor for me and I’ll personally owe you.”

Zephris smiled before shaking his head.

“An I. O. U from you would be incredibly valuable I’ll admit but no offense, I want nothing to do with you or anyone else in this world. I’ve had my fill so to speak. Now is there anything else, any more arguments, any more provocations, or tries at convincing me because they will not work? My mind is made up and I am leaving no matter what.”

Kazuki thought for a moment but there was not much else he could say or do to convince Zephris. At the same time, he couldn’t be mad at him. How many opportunities does such a gift as true freedom come along? Kazuki thought about not only the people of Gordonia but the people of Earth as well. It was very rare to come across a person that had real freedom. Freedom from debt, freedom from people freedom from responsibilities, and law. Every day these people would go to work and break their back working for someone who could give a shit. Every day, grinding away more and more at one’s body, mind, and soul.

Kazuki felt somewhat envious of Zephris at this moment.

“Zephris…I wish you good luck.”

Kazuki held out his hand and Zephris at first was confused and thought this might be a trick of some kind. He knew how cunning Kazuki could be and was waiting for the gotcha moment but it never came. Zephris cautiously clasped Kazuki’s hand with his own and Kazuki simply shook it.

“So when did you say you were planning to go?”

Zephris was still a little worried but he answered anyway.

“As long as nothing goes wrong, right after you let go of my hand.”

Kazuki gave a slight nod.

“Come back anytime. We may not be friends but maybe we can share a drink one day or maybe even a meal.”

Kazuki let Zephris go and Zephris just stared at him on confusion before he finally realized that Kazuki was serious.

“Ok then. Maybe I’ll take you up on that offer someday. However, that will be only after I have found what I am looking for and not a day sooner.”

After he finished those words, all of the drawers along the wall sprung open and all of the ingredients and equipment in the lab shot forth and entered Zephris’s storage ring.

“You’re taking all of this with you. Aren’t there more things, more samples you wanted to collect from this world?”

“I’ve already taken every sample I need. Anything else is redundant and can be remade by base ingredients and dna samples already in my storage. After I leave this world, there are a few million worlds I will be stopping by and collecting other things from before I am officially leaving this Realm. Collecting from there, it should only take me a few days at most before this Realm is long in my past.”

Zephris thought about something for a moment before adding.

“If there are any threats within that small window and I am still in this Realm…I may give a helping hand but don’t count on anything understand?”

Kazuki just nodded.

A moment later and all of Zephris’s things were packed and with that, he vanished. In the air, he left two words behind and nothing more.

“Good luck.”
