CHAPTER 220: AT THE BORDER
I was genuinely surprised with how calm things have been ever since we left Kapitalia. The entire ten days it took to fly to the border went smoothly. No harsh weather, no incidents like monster or bandit attacks. Heck, not even a single party of adventurers coming across us or resting at the inn. Honestly, it was making me feel uneasy.
The Archduke just appeared the moment we set off. Luckily this time we had an additional wyvern which was used to carry him and Mia. Another thing to mention is that Mia brought along the wyvern babies, or more specifically, they didn’t allow her to leave them behind and tagged along.
But right now we were faced with a problem, one all of us overlooked as we were already accustomed to this, but when this happened I became relieved. Finally there was trouble on the road. No wonder everything went smoothly so far.
“You cannot go past here with those monsters. Please turn away. Unless you have specific permission to bring them in, I cannot allow you to pass.”
The captain of the guard was bowing deeply towards Marc and Vitou as he said that. I can’t believe it. Elicia was already used to this new change, but it seems like Vilikis did not accept this change quite yet.
“Are you serious? I give them the approval, isn’t that good enough?!”
“I’m sorry Your Highness, but unless it is your Father, Mother, or your brother I can’t let you bring those monsters inside Vilikis. If you decide to leave them behind, you are free to enter.”
Hell no! Without wyverns it will take way too long to reach Tiremia, the capital city. The distance will take a month on carriage. Way too long, and not to mention I would get super stiff sitting inside all day long. Definitely not an option.
“In that case send a report to Tiremia so Father will give the approval. Taking the coach is no fun. We’ll wait here until it is approved. Naoko, open the inn, you’ll make a fortune while we wait. Here’s the gold for three nights.”
“Eh, Your Highness, it is a busy time, we can’t just stop the work to report. You will have to wait.”
“I don’t care, just do it!”
I took the money from Marc. He was acting really bratty. Well it is faster than going by carriage. I went along with his plan and everyone else accepted it because all of them started giving me the money to stay at the inn.
I shrugged and called upon elementals to create a thick fog and then installed my inn nearby. Even before the fog was cleared others in my party were already heading inside.
“Wh…what? How? Where did this come from?!”
I heard several screams and gasps from the guards as well as travelers that were surprised with the sudden appearance of my inn.
“Welcome to the ‘Lost Inn’ a safe haven to those that seek it.”
It was early afternoon, so I didn’t expect anyone to check in, but boy was I wrong. Almost immediately I was booked full. And nobody complained about the extravagant pricing. At dinner I was swamped. I had brought out extra tables and chairs and set them outside like a terrace. Even then every single chair was taken. I had spent a third of all my food that evening. I became worried about food stock so I summoned Yoru who was in the dungeon and made him hunt monsters in the vicinity for meat.
“I can’t do this! I want to sleep! What’s with all these people? How come they aren’t going across the border?”
“It’s because it takes a few days to have their pass approved, even adventurers need to wait for a day, not to mention the merchants that have a ton of goods.”
How can it be that slow? I guess I won’t be having a break tomorrow either. I should probably rest as much as I can tonight. Oh yeah, I should probably ask Fulgy to help me figure out Fair Folk Ring. I asked him on the way here if it is okay to use it, but he was surprised to hear dragons were even considered Fair Folk.
Fulgy was already in my room when I returned. You know, it is a good thing Vitou was unaware that I slept in the same bed with Fulgy every night otherwise a huge fight would most likely occur. In that case, I would definitely bet that Fulgy would win.
“Fulgy, any ideas on how I can unlock the blessings?”
“No, my bride, but once we are in Vilikis I will try and meet with some elders. They might know more about it than me. I am still considered part of the younger generation among dragons, so it is not surprising that I don’t know about it.”
I let it be for now and took out the other item I got from the Royal Treasury, and just like for the past ten days I put it on my ear. There was a reason why I don’t wear it usually. The skill that came with it [Soul Chain] that leeches life is applied on me whenever I try to wear it. It was obviously not recognizing me as its owner.
I immediately began hearing numerous cries within my head calling for help and cursing me at the same time. And as that was happening, my health started draining at a steady pace. The reason why I was doing this is to find a way and make it recognize as worthy. I had no idea how to do it, but I will be able to do it one day if I try hard enough.
I was enduring it, trying to slow down the draining and to calm the voices. When my HP would reach below 300 I would remove it and put it in my inventory and that way ensure it would not harm me. Immediately afterwards I would pass out from exhaustion.
That night I dreamt of a battlefield between demons and gods. And among them I saw a lone man laughing as he slaughtered both sides. His eyes were green and he looked extremely skinny, but no matter how many times he was slashed he would not fall down. Only when he was hit by every magic known to man did his body fall and turn to dust.
I felt utterly terrible the next morning and with a sour look on my face I went to the kitchen to prepare for another extremely busy day.
