CHAPTER 255: PITTING THE BLACK BARON

“I agree that we should act, but why are you sure that he will take the bait?”

“I will use the corpse of a Tyrannical Black Bear. If this can’t tempt them, I don’t know what will. Moreover this monster should be hard to control. This bear is something that took a lot of effort to defeat. It took a combined effort of Byakko, Yoru and me to take it down. I looked at Daisuke, he seemed quite entertained with this idea. I needed and then we talked some more about what to say and how to act to not be overly pretentious, but at the same time being able to catch attention to better spread the rumors. All in all things were pretty much settled and the only thing left for me to do is wait patiently in my room and get ready to act tomorrow.

When I returned to the room, the visitor was already there. Since I was expecting him, I wasn’t surprised that he was already here. I don’t know what he was looking for, but since he came so late at night and announced it earlier, it must be something really important.

Although Vitou isn’t as annoying to me as before, I still want to have my freedom and marry who I want to marry in the future.

I don’t know if he saw my complicated emotions, but he didn’t speak and let me sort things out. I sighed and took out some tea for both of us and sat down. Sooner or later I want to have a proper talk with him, but today is not that day. I still need to sort things out for myself.

But why does he say he won’t interfere? Does he support my idea? If so, why make me go through the wedding? I had so many questions and no answers.

“Why?”

However there is one person that is also planning things for that day and it might complicate things for both of us.”

“What do you mean?”

I watched him disappear before sinking into deep thoughts. The thief was most likely sent by King Erik and I think he wanted to do something with it to start a war between the two kingdoms, but how did he plan on achieving that. It seems that he is hiding some deep aspirations. Or is he just planning to collect the Rainbow Sword, could he be aware of the truth? I really need to be careful when I get back.

I expelled all unwanted thoughts and went to sleep. I had a more pressing matter at hand. I crawled onto my bed and tucked myself in. Tomorrow will be an exhausting day and I need to be full of energy to make sure everything goes well.

The night passed peacefully. Unbeknownst to me, the word about the future Crown Princess of Elicia arriving already spread through the border pass. When I mentioned to the guys to visit the baths and spread the word, I underestimated the wish for gossip those listening had. And I underestimated the allure I had on people.

When I woke up to prepare breakfast I was greeted by countless people looking for someone to confirm the gossip they heard. I had no option but to reply that someone booked an extra room yesterday that remained empty, but I had no idea who it was. After all, I couldn’t tell them they were talking to her right now and confirming that the rumors were true will not be as good as letting them come to a conclusion on their own. This way they will be more sure of it.
