「You weren’t really that badly injured in the first place, so there wasn’t a lot to be healed. I think.」

「Do you realize that what you’re saying is ridiculous, great detective?」

「I wonder~ More importantly, let’s get to the real issue Juugo.」

While saying that, Tensai took it out of her pocket and tossed it over to me. 

「What is this?」

「This is the Nanana’s Collection that was in the Ruins in South Red Mall.」

I lowered my eyes to the leather sack with a string around it that was in the palm of my hand. It seemed like we had somehow obtained it after I passed out. Even through the thick leather, I could tell there was something hard inside. 

「While you were sleeping I went and asked Nanana-dono about it’s hidden powers.」

「You went and entered another person’s house by yourself again…」

「That’s because the door was broken, as always.」

「That is called trespassing, remember it. … so? What the heck is this?」

「《Things of the past become visible》is what it seems to be called.」

The good old terrible naming sense…. hm? Wait! 

「Ehh, is that for real?」

「Using this, you can apparently view events that happened in the past.」

I involuntarily stared at the leather sack in my hand, and swallowed. 

The Nanana Collection that I had been chasing after was now in my hands.

「You’re kidding, right? Is this serious?」

It was all too sudden in a way, and I could not fully grasp that it was real yet. Now that I thought of it, how do you even use this thing? 

「Actually this is the only reason I am bringing this Nanana Collection to you. It’s because I want to have a conversation with you about the ownership.」

「Ownership?」

「During lunchtime today, we talked about it in the Adventure Club’s clubroom. The conclusion was that this Nanana’s Collection will become either mine or yours.」

「Huh? What about president Yuiga?」

「He seems to have taken a pass on this one. “Go to Juugo’s place after school and talk it over with him or something”. He sent me away like that.」

What was that about? Is it because it won’t be of any use towards reaching president Yuiga’s ambitions? But if it enabled you to view events from the past, I can think of several ways to put it to good use.

「He drove away Ikusaba Hiiyo. Right now he seems to be satisfied with that.」

「I see. President Yuiga seemed to have been extremely abused by Ikusaba-san.」

「Well then, Juugo. Do you want this Nanana Collection?」

「That’s…」

I want it. I almost answered that instantaneously. This is a Nanana Collection from the South Red Mall Ruins, and thus it was a Nanana Collection that will help me with my objective. (which is my promise with Nanana-chan) Which means that to fulfill my promise with Nanana-chan, I have to have this. Furthermore, using it even once was not okay.  

However, with this there is no doubt I could find the person who killed Nanana-chan. 

What am I supposed to do? 

Seeing at how much of a loss I was, Tensai whispered: 「Is the problem with Nanana-dono bothering you?」

「… Yeah.」

「But it looks like you want it.」

「….. I actually want it really badly.」

「Then isn’t it fine? You can just break your promise.」

「Huh?」

「Just think about it. In any case, Nanana-dono cannot take one step out of the door of that room. If you have ownership of this thing outside of that room, there is no way for Nanana to ever know.」

She was right. And on top of that, using this would be for Nanana-chan’s sake as well. Even if it meant breaking my promise with her. That was…

「Anyhow, you are the one who decides what you want to do, Juugo. I am fine either way.」

「Are you really okay with it? Doesn’t this seem like you could use it for something as a great detective? This Nanana Collection, I mean.」

「Yes, I could surely solve any case swiftly with an ability like that.」

If she could peep at the past, she could view all the things that have happened at a place. So she would be able to solve any case 100%. 

「If that’s so…」

「That’s why it’s boring. That’s why this thing, is not something I want.」

So she says. 

Hearing that, I laughed a bit. I thought it was really a Tensai-like reason. And I also thought it was a little bit cool. A little, really just a tiny bit. 

Thanks to having heard Tensai’s real feelings about this, I was also able to clear away the last of the opposing arguments that clung to what I had concluded myself. 

「Tensai.」

「What….. what is the meaning of this, Juugo?」

Tensai glared at me, as I returned the Nanana Collection to her. 

「I don’t need it either. You can hold onto it.」

「Why this change of mind?」

「It’s because I made a promise to Nanana-chan. She told me not to use that particular Nanana Collection.」

「Isn’t it okay for you to have this? Isn’t sneaking around and working on bad things your specialty?」

Guh, I can’t say anything to that. 

「You’re right. However, I think that secretly receiving this here is wrong after all.」

Breaking my promise with Nanana-chan, for Nanana-chan’s own sake. If I had to go so far as to break my promise with Nanana-chan, would I really be doing it for her sake? 

That probably isn’t right. 

It’s true that I am looking for Nanana’s Collection for Nanana’s sake. However if I want to do something to help a person, breaking a promise with that person isn’t actually for the sake of that person. That is something you do for yourself; it is just egotism. 

Going that far is probably not considered an act to help someone out. Proudly holding your chest high to help someone out, is what it should mean to be helpful. 

Tensai showed me an indignant expression when I drew my conclusion. 

「Don’t say such things and just use it.」

「No, I said it’s fine like this.」

「Don’t say that now, here!」

She was getting kind of persistent. I had the thought that I shouldn’t trust Tensai when she is so pushy. 

「…. This is all kind of weird. Hey, Tensai. You aren’t hiding anything from me, are you?」

When I threw her a look of distrust, Tensai made a face like she was giving up. 

「Tch, I guess I lost the bet.」

「Which bet?」

「I made a bet with Nanana-dono.」

「You’re really an idiot, aren’t you? There is no way you would win when you bet with Nanana-chan.」

The opponent was a spirit blessed with amazing luck, after all.

「Shut up.」

「So tell me, what did you bet on?」

「It was about whether you would keep your promise with Nanana-dono or break it. 」

「Oof! Seriously?」

T-that was some thin ice! If by chance I had used the thing, Nanana-chan would have found out immediately. 

「By the way, the power I just told you about was also a lie.」

「Huh?! It was?!!」

Which means……. so that’s what this was about. 

In short: this entire exchange was all a trap set by Nanana-chan. In order to judge whether I would or wouldn’t break my promise with her. Wait, am I so untrusted by Nanana-chan?

「Well, Nanana-dono did declare that 『Juugo would definitely keep his promise with me』though.」

「Oh, I see.」

Yes, I’ll take those few words. I’ll quite happily accept those words. Thank you.

「And by the way, I was personally absolutely convinced that you would break the promise.」

「You’re really the worst.」

No jokes, I really felt like that. 

Hm, wait?

「Eh so, what is the real power that Nanana Collection is bestowed with?」

I pointed at the Nanana Collection that was in Tensai’s hand.

「What actually will happen when you use this, is that the clothes of the people within 1.5 meters around you will become see-through.」 

「That’s insane! Now I suddenly want it!」

「Just kidding.」

「I could tell that much, yeah. Geez, if you’re going to tell lies, make them a bit more believable, will you?」
