Beast Tamer Who Got Kicked Out From the Hero’s Party Chapter 106 Part 2
CHAPTER 106 PART 2
「R-Right……」
「First of all, you need to get yourself ready with some much needed preparations. Fumuh…… Just wait a minute.」
In a flash, Luna left the kitchen.
A moment later, she was back with a small step stool and an apron in her hands.
「Alright, Nina. Let’s start by putting that apron on you.」
「Thank you.」
「Also, you might want to use that stepping stool as well. With your current height, you might be unable to reach the counter on your own.」
Apparently Luna was paying attention to every single little detail.
If it was me who was in her place, I might not have even noticed that Nina’s short stature would be a major problem here.
I know that Luna was usually acting in a pretty laid back manner, but……
Could it be that she was actually surprisingly caring?
Because from that picture alone right in front of me, you might have gotten the idea that Nina was actually Sora and Luna’s sister as well.
「First of all, we have to chop the vegetables.」
「…… Vegetables.」
「Now, in order to make sure that we are going to be safe while working with the knife, we need to make a kitty-cat hand. Do you know how to do it, Nina?」
「…… Kanade hand……?」
「…… Hm? No, I mean, Kanade is a cat, but that’s not it…… Oh well, okay. Umu, first of all, just curl your hand up so that your fingers are pressing against the front of the palm of your hand. That way, the knife’s blade won’t hurt you, no matter what.」
「…… Uhm. R-Right, like…… like this?」
「Yeah, just like that. Now you should be all ready. You can try cutting the vegetables with the knife now.」
「…… I’ll try.」
Saying that, Nina swung the knife down vigorously and……
Even though you might have expected for her very first attempt to go rather poorly, Nina was able to cut the vegetables with surprising finesse and skill.
Her moves were naturally really clumsy and unsure, but she was making sure to take her time to do a proper job, and the whole process was proceeding smoothly.
With careful work like that, the vegetables were cut so neatly that it was hard to believe it was actually Nina’s first time in the kitchen.
「Oooh, Nina, that’s amazing! It’s not easy to cut the vegetables so neatly for your first time, but look at you go!」
「R-Really……?」
「Yeah, that’s my disciple for you! You’re doing great! Great job!」
「…… Ehehe.」
Before anyone was able to even realize it, Nina had been made into Luna’s apprentice.
Well, both of them seemed to be really happy about this, so I guess it’s all good.
After that, Luna’s cooking class continued in earnest.
Nina eagerly learned the recipe for curry while following Luna’s instructions step by step.
Before long, the dish was starting to take shape.
It was that kind of project that was making you really look forward to the completed product.
「Oh? What are you guys doing?」
Sora appeared in the kitchen with a face filled with genuine curiosity.
「Luna is teaching Nina how to cook.」
「How to cook?」
For some reason, I felt that Sora’s eyes started to sparkle.
In the next moment, Sora stepped forward and rolled up her sleeves.
Luna, who just happened to notice the new arrival in the kitchen, looked at her sister with a suspicion…… Now, the look on her face was that of genuine fear.
「…… Sister Dearest. I’m going to ask you that just in case, but…… what do you think you’re doing?」
「Luna is giving it her very best for Nina’s sake, so Sora thought that she would help as well!」
「Please don’t!」
Forgetting her usual way of speaking, Luna begged Sora with such force that she even bowed her head before her.
W-What was that?
To me, it looked as if Luna would rather not have Sora helping with the cooking process at all……
But was it really necessary to refuse her so brutally like that?
「And why not!? Why can’t I help Nina to learn how to cook!? And most importantly, you don’t have to make it sound so rude, don’t you think!?」
「No, this is, I mean…… Umm, well…… Y-You know that you are a terrible cook, right, Sister Dearest!? No, I guess that calling you terrible cook does not even begin to do the term “terrible” justice…… How should I even say it? Y-Yeah, there is no sugarcoating it…… your cooking skills are simply preposterous. So no matter what happens, just please don’t try to do anything in the kitchen.」
Come to think of it, I vaguely remember a similar conversation taking place some time ago.
At the time, I did not pay all that much attention to it because I thought it was something largely irrelevant, but……
From Luna’s panicked expression, it would seem that Sora’s lack of talent in the kitchen was something truly fearsome……
「Mmmhhh…… Luna, you jerk! I can’t stand you when you say things like that! We need to correct Luna’s misconceptions here, for one thing! And I will prove it to you! That I’m actually a capable cook! So Luna! Make some space for me, right this instant!」
「Aaahhh……」
And just like that, it was decided that Sora would also participate in Luna’s cooking class.
Seeing that, Luna made a desperate expression, but ultimately gave up.
Even when she fought against the Demon just the other day, she didn’t look so desperate like that……
What in the world were Sora’s cooking skills really like?
On the contrary, I was actually curious about that.
「Hmph! I am going to make such a delicious curry that it will make you revise your sorry assessment of my cooking skills!」
Sora said with pride as she puffed up her chest while getting a hold of the knife, and……
THUMP! THUMP! THUMP! THUMP!
She started to bring down the knife on top of the cutting board, cutting the vegetables in huge and slightly uneven chunks.
Huh?
Luna said that Sora’s cooking skills were outrageously bad, so I was actually expecting something unspeakable and truly outrageous to happen, but……
Nothing of the sort was actually happening.
I mean, honestly, weren’t her skills on par with Luna’s? Or maybe even slightly better?
「Oh, My Dear Master, please don’t let appearances deceive you. The bad part of Sora’s cooking skills is just about to begin.」
「Just about to begin?」
「I still have to teach Nina how to make the finishing touches of the curry, so I can’t keep an eye on Sora the entire time. Rein, if you see that she is starting to do something outrageous, I would like you to try and stop her.」
I mean sure, but…… Are you really sure about this?
I mean…… what’s the worst that could possibly happen, right?
And that’s when it happened. Just when I was thinking that.
Sora cut up all the ingredients, fried them, added water and started to simmer them……
「Hmm…… Let’s try adding something spicy into the mix today. Alright!」
She started to throw a literal mountainload of spices into the pot.
For a moment out there, I was truly stunned, not knowing what had happened.
「No, no, no, no, no!」
「…… Hm? What’s wrong, Rein?」
「Sora, I…… I think that you have just put an unbelievably huge amount of spices into that pot……」
「Well, yes. Because I think it might be good to make it extra spicy today.」
「I don’t think that this amount is going to make the curry feel “a little bit spicy”. Actually, this might make it feel “extra” or “unbearably” hot!」
「Oh, really now? Well then, let’s add some sugar into the mix to lessen the spices’ impact.」
「…… Say what now?」
Before I could even stop her from doing that, Sora started to put a huge amount of sugar into the pot.
She threw in so much of it that I could almost hear a loud “THUD” when some lumps fell into the pot.
「Hmm…… I don’t think it has nearly enough color. Let’s add some salt for good measure!」
Why add the salt now……?
Besides, salt has nothing to do with changing the color of the mixture, right……?
And they’re throwing in a lot of money again…
And whoa! Why are you throwing so much of it in!?
While I was clearly astonished by what I was seeing, Luna approached me and whispered softly into my ear.
「Do you understand now, my Lord? This is what Sora’s cooking is all about. She has the skills to pull it off, but everything is being offset with adding the arbitrary ingredients with some truly ridiculous amounts of it.」
「What are we even supposed to do with that dish once Sora finishes making it?
「Please do your best♪」
「Do your best, Rein.」
Before I even knew it, Nina had also consorted me together with Sora to do my best.
…… So cold-hearted.
I thought that we were supposed to be on the same side.
「Hmm…… This time, I feel like it’s not nearly as sour as it should be. Let’s add some lemon juice for good measure!」
While we were fearful of what the final product was going to be, Sora just continued to cook happily……
I mean…… Can we even call this cooking any longer?
But if not cooking, what would that make it? An experiment? Biological weapon?
And I’m going to have to eat that thing eventually……
Honestly…… I might even die because of it.
I’m really sorry, Sora. But that is my honest opinion.
