「And since I can’t go out during the day either, I will stay back home as well.」

After announcing that, Sora and Luna went back inside of the house and……

Tina called out to us from the inside of the house as well, announcing what she was going to do.

「What about you, Nina?」

「Can I…… Umm, I mean…… Would you…… Do you mind if I……?」

「Of course. You can tag along, no problem.」

「…… Thank you.」

Nina smiled shyly and took my hand in her own.

Apparently she wanted to hold hands with me for some reason.

Could it be that without Suzu-san around she was feeling lonely?

「Mumumuh……! Dis she do that on purpose just now!? Or maybe it was something completely unconscious!? But anyways, I can see that I can no longer disregard Nina as a mere child! She’s a fully-fledged rival, so I need to be extra careful……」

For some reason, Kanade was mumbling something I was unable to quite understand under her nose as she looked with jealousy and envy at me and Nina holding hands.

I visited the Adventurers’ Guild with Kanade and Nina in tow.

We were originally going to find some nice and relaxing request that we could do to get back into the swing of things, but……

For some strange reason, the inside of the Adventurers’ Guild building was scorchingly busy, with everyone restless and running around.

Staff members were moved from one side of the lobby to another without a moment of rest.

The atmosphere at this place was really unprecedented.

What could have happened to make everyone behave like that?

Both Kanade and Nina grabbed onto the hem of my clothes.

「Ah, Shroud-san!」

Natalie-san noticed us and walked over to us in a hurry.

「What perfect timing! I was just trying to get in touch with you, Shroud-san!」

Suddenly, Natalie-san’s eyes went towards Kanade and Nina.

She saw that the two of them were grabbing onto my clothes, and after a moment her eyes narrowed down into thin slits.

「…… What’s the meaning of this? Are you here to show off, perhaps?」

「…… What? Showing off? Like, how? and to whom? …… Hm? What does that mean?」

「…… No, it’s nothing, really. Haah…… I guess that Shroud-san is just that kind of person, huh? Goodness gracious, for me to get all worked up over someone like that, it’s just……」

All of a sudden, Natalie-san let out a loud scream, which ended up startling Nina, her ears and tail twitching so hard that they stood straight.

「It’s an emergency! We have an emergency situation on our hands and we don’t know how to deal with it!」

「P-Please relax, Natalie-san! Your explanation doesn’t say anything to us……」

「O-Oh, is that so? Oh, dear. I’m sorry about this.」

Seemingly being able to regain her composure to a certain extent, Natalie-san looked a little embarrassed by her shameful display just now.

Then, as if to change her mind, she cleared her throat with a slight cough.

「Actually, we were issued an emergency request not so long ago.」

「An emergency request?」

「An Emergency Request is a kind of quest that is given to the Adventurers as a matter of urgency, as the name itself suggests. All normal requests will be temporarily suspended and all Adventurers who can respond to the Emergency Request will be sent out for for that quest exclusively. For that purpose, the Guild will gather all the Adventurers that it can find, and also work with the Knights Order to deal with the situation. That’s what an Emergency Request is. To summarize it simply, you can think of it as a matter of high importance where all Adventurers and the Knights must work together as one to take on the imposed challenge.」

「So does that mean…… We can’t accept any new quests right now?」

「Yes, I’m afraid that’s the situation. I am really sorry for that, but……」

「So? Does that mean that we are going to be forced to participate in that Emergency Request as well?」

「No. Participation in the Emergency Request is entirely optional. Although the Guild would like for as many Adventurers as possible to join in on that request……」

「Achieving that goal is going to be difficult, right?」

Nina was right.

Because of that, the Guild was in a state of turmoil unlike any I have never seen before.

For an Emergency Request to throw the Guild into such great turmoil…… What the hell happened?

「That’s why you won’t be able to take on any regular requests at this time. I’m sorry to say that to you. But if you are willing to take on the Emergency Request, I’d be more than happy to talk to you about it. Shroud-san, would you be able to help us?」

Natalie-san looked at me with expectations in her eyes.

「Do you know the city of River’s End on the Southern Continent?」

Kanade tilted her head in puzzlement, but I knew exactly what this was all about.

「Yeah, I know the place that you are talking about. When you cross the Stride Bridge and go to the SouthernContinent, that’s the very first settlement that you are going to arrive at, huh? It might be fairly small, but it has many inns and it serves as a transit point between the Southern and Central Continents, so it sees a lot of trade and traffic going through.」

「Well then, do you happen to know about the small village of Pagos? The one that is located a little bit further to the south of River’s End?」

「No, I don’t know anything about that place.」

「Well, apparently, the entire village of Pagos has been destroyed.」
