Beast Tamer Who Got Kicked Out From the Hero’s Party Chapter 13

CHAPTER 13: THE HERO’S STORY

「God damn it!」

In the middle of a dense forest, the Hero Arios clicked his tongue.

A week had passed since they began to attack the “Lost Forest”.

However, they still hadn’t been able to defeat the Boss of the dungeon.

To be more precise, they couldn’t even reach the Boss.

As the name of this place implies, the “Lost Forest” is a maze-like place that confuses the Adventurers trying to clear it.

It is even said that if you set foot in it casually, you will never be able to get out of it and you will eventually die in there, your corpse left to rot away.

Normally they would ignore such a place, but……

Arios and his group had a reason for not being able to ignore this dungeon, no matter what.

The Boss of this place was said to possess the item called ‘The Shield of Truth’, the legendary equipment needed to fight the Demon Lord.

Hence, they started to attack the “Lost Forest” in hopes of obtaining the “Shield of Truth”, but……

「What the hell is the deal with this blasted forest!? No matter where we look or where we go, there is no right path leading towards our goal! …… Hey, are you sure that there would be a piece of legendary equipment in a place like this!?」

「Yes, there is no doubt about it. I happened to receive that information from a trusted source.」

「Damn, we have already been more than a week inside of this forest, and we haven’t made any real progress……」

「Haah…… I’m so tired. I want to take a nice and long bath.」

「Rin. You mustn’t be so selfish. We are on a noble journey to save the world, after all.」

「I know, I know, but come on! It’s already been more than a week! Aren’t you guys starting to get sick of it as well!?」

「Well, this is……」

Rin’s frustration was something that Mina could well understand.

That was because Mina herself was already well fed up with the unreasonable difficulty of attacking the ‘Lost Forest’.

They were able to make some progress with creating a map of this place, but this effort turned out to be largely useless in the end.

As time would pass, the path inside of the dungeon would change and their destination would get further and further away from them.

So they were unable to proceed properly because of the same thing happening over and over again, seemingly to no end.

「…… At a time like this, it would be nice to have him around.」

「‘Him? Aggath, who are you talking about?」

「You know as well as I do, Arios. I’m talking about Rein.」

「Tsk!」

Arios bit his lip evasively and in disgust upon hearing that.

「With Rein’s scouting abilities, we would be able to explore every single nook and cranny of this forest. From above, we might be able to even find a new path or two. True, he was useless in combat, but that was not the only way in which he could be of use to us.」

「Don’t be stupid! Do we really need the help of such an incompetent loser!? I can’t approve of that kind of bullshit!」

「Yes, I agree. I’m against it as well. I was dying to get rid of that little worm from our Party. We didn’t do anything wrong by banishing him out of the Party.」

「Yeah, that’s right…… We don’t need parasites like that in our Party. I totally agree with what Rin just said.」

「Indeed…… We can’t argue with your decision to banish Rein. But don’t you think that the timing of that decision left much to be desired?」

「…… Ngh!?」.

Arios was at a loss for words.

Inwardly, he approved of Aggath’s words.

No matter how powerful Arios and the others were, there was no point to it in this “Lost Forest”.

Because if they couldn’t choose the right path to reach their goal and find their way back to town, then all of their strength combined would ultimately amount to nothing.

And the only person who could make it so that they would have meaning…… was Rein.

Rein was certainly not powerful at all.

He was a liability when fighting the enemy.

However, he was very good at supporting the Party with his abilities as a Beast Tamer.

For example, letting various wild animals carry their luggage and supplies.

By taming a wild bear or other animal like that, it could carry dozens of times more loadout than a human hands could ever hope to carry.

This was a skill that was more than useful to Adventurers on the road.

The less luggage they had to carry on their own, the faster they could travel towards their next destination.

They could also focus on fighting to their fullest without having to worry about ever running out of water and food.

Rein was able to support their supply lines all by himself.

Arios and his group had thrown him out without even realizing that simple fact.

They were only starting to realize the real importance of Rein’s character right now, but……

Arios would still refuse to admit that.

No, it was not it. He simply did not want to admit that.

Who could admit that the man they banished from the Party for being useless was actually an important part of their Party in the first place?

Arios has developed a really bad habit.

Because he has been called a Hero and has received a lot of respect from people, he sometimes would end up lacking any form of consideration for other people.

The case of Rein was just another example of that.

「Besides, isn’t it strange for an absolute trash like him to be so useful? Yes, thinking about it now, it’s totally strange!」

Rin was just like Arios in that regard.

A person who managed to master over a thousand magic spells, she had been hailed as a genius and a prodigy from an early age…… which also led to her being awfully self-deluded.

It was impossible for her, a genius, to care for the ordinary people…… and even less for those who she would deem less than ordinary.

And the worst part of it all was that she was honestly thinking like that.

「Maybe we are simply lacking in our efforts. For a group of capable people like us to be unable to clear a dungeon like that without the aid of such a useless person is simply……」’

Mina was the same kind of person as the previous two.

She was educated from an early age to become one of the Hero’s companions, and came to believe that her mission was to save the world.

Unable to fight properly, Rein was just a hindrance to Mina’s noble mission.

「I know what you two are trying to say. I also understand what Arios is trying to say. But…… Wasn’t there any other way in which we could have handled this?」

Aggath’s words were heavy and pierced the three of them deeply.

For a week, they tried to attack and clear the “Lost Forest”.

However, instead of being able to defeat the Boss of the dungeon, they couldn’t even move forward properly.

If this was the case, their journey to defeat the Demon Lord would stall here for God knows how long.

And in a sense, it would be inscribed with the perception that they had failed because Rein was not there with them.

That’s the only thing all of them would simply not tolerate.

Arios slammed his fist against a nearby tree in frustration.

「How about we use him one more time? We’re not bringing him back to the Party, of course. We are just going to hire him as a guide here. That’s about as close to a compromise as we can all get, don’t you think?」

Aggath’s words silenced the three of them effectively before they could say anything.

「But, do you really think that he will be willing to come back to us?」

「Yes, that’s right…… Especially after we’ve said all of those things to him.」

「I don’t really see a problem with that.」

「…… Yeah?」

Arios agreed with Aggath’s words.

「He’s such a goody-two-shoes, and an idiot at that. All we need to do is to say to him: ‘We’re sorry! We didn’t really mean it all” …… or whatever other crap like that. This should be more than enough to urge him to come back to us. And, once you’ve conquered the ‘Lost Forest’, we can throw him away again, just like that.」

「Uwah, that’s really dirty♪」

「So, Rin? Does that mean that you want him to stay with us?」

「No way! I don’t want to be with that garbage idiot even for a moment! I’m sick of the thought of him coming back to us, even if it would be one last time.」

「But it’s something that cannot be helped. It’s hard for us to clear this place without his help, so it’s going to be a one time gig only. We must be patient.」

「So, I guess that means that we have come to an understanding?」

「Yeah. We are going to bring Rein back in. Once we do that, we’re good to go. Let’s get ready to vacate the premises of this place.」

Arios, who said that, had no feelings of apology or repentance for Rein or anything like that.

He was only going to use him.

That’s all he could think about.

And thus, Arios and his group would return to Horizon……

However, they hadn’t even realized it.

They did not realize that they had been given up on, even by Rein, who they thought of as nothing more than a bottom-feeding softie.

They did not realize that Rein had already gained a true companion in Kanade.
