Beast Tamer Who Got Kicked Out From the Hero’s Party Chapter 133 Part 2
CHAPTER 133 PART 2
「It’s okay. I’m sure that the Knights and other Adventurers have already checked everything out around this town and it is unlikely that Ax is going to be able to find anything new on his own. To tell you the truth, I simply sent him away because he would end up getting in our way otherwise.」
「B-Being that much of a hindrance, huh……?」
「You two, you have seen for the past couple of days just how Ax is like, right? So I don’t really need to tell you that having him around and leaving him to his usual antics is going to be more annoying than anything else, right? Especially for something as crucial and delicate as refugees and survivors interview.」
「T-That’s a rather harsh evaluation……」
Hearing Cell’s relentless summary, Kanade started sweating profusely.
I see that Ax also has it rather hard for himself, huh……?
However, I didn’t get a feeling that Cell didn’t think anything of Ax, though……
Without hesitation, Ax went on a search, just like Cell told him to. Even though he probably knew that he was not going to be able to find anything.
But since it was Cell that asked him to do this, he probably wanted to do his part just as he was told, so that he wouldn’t disappoint her.
It looks like the relationship that those two have is founded on a strong bond of mutual trust.
「Are you the only ones who are going to question the survivors, Rein and Kanade?」
「Ah, yes, that’s right. We can’t afford to have too many people around during the interviews, as that would only create some unnecessary confusion. That is why I have sent the rest of our Party to find us a proper place to stay the night.」
「Fair enough, that’s a wise choice. Okay, shall we go and interview those survivors now?」
「Yes, let’s do just that.」
After we agreed on that, Cell started to walk in front of us, leading the way……
Kanade and I followed suit and just like that we started asking around.
***
We started asking the questions around and a good amount of time passed on us doing just that.
‘Phew.’
Even though Cell’s expression did not change all that much throughout all this time, I could see that there was a certain amount of strain that she was trying to hide from us. She must have been feeling the fatigue finally getting to her.
Kanade, too, has a mindless look on her face and her tail was swaying in an unfocused way.
It’s no wonder the two of them were feeling tired.
The interviews went for a long time, but it was fortunately a smooth process.
We were able to meet with the Pagos villagers who had been evacuated from the ruins of their village, and we were able to hear a lot of stories from them.
And because of that, we were able to obtain a fair amount of information.
It’s just that……
All of those stories were so tragic that they made us raise our eyebrows in sheer disbelief the moment we heard them.
That’s just how horrific the incident was at the village of Pagos.
Hearing such stories all the time would be mentally draining for sure, no matter who you were.
It was no wonder that Cell and Kanade were tired of it all.
「How about we take a short break?」
Unable to see them like that any longer, I made such a suggestion.
「Nyaah…… I agree. I’m a bit tired.」
「Yes, that’s right…… For the time being, we were able to listen to a bunch of different stories, so how about we try to piece them all together?」
Once we were able to reach a consensus like that, we moved on to the village’s square.
There was a bench set up in just the right spot and we sat there for the time being.
「Hehe, I get to sit right next to Rein!」
Kanade, Cell and I sat down on the bench in that order.
The distance between Kanade and myself seemed to be awfully close for some reason…… or maybe it was only my imagination?
「Fuuh.」
Cell let out a small sigh and looked up at the sky.
A look of melancholy could be seen on her profile.
「Although we have heard a lot of stories just now…… I think that we are even further from understanding what exactly happened at Pagos then we were before.」
「Yes. There seems to be a whole lot of confusing and contradictory information in the villagers’ statements.」
Agreeing with Cell’s words, we slowly started to sort through the information we had obtained from those interviews that we had conducted just now.
Apparently, it all started about twenty days ago.
The people of the village of Pagos were going about their daily lives as usual that day.
The adults were hard at work in the fields and the children were playing in the village’s square.
Many people agreed that this was their usual, calm and peaceful scene.
But…… That peaceful and idyllic scene was lost in a single instant.
Because it was then that the Devil appeared.
The Devil burned the houses down, ripped out livestock’s guts and killed people with ease.
The village’s militia moved in to try and deal with the sudden threat, but there was nothing that they could do in face of such overwhelming power and destruction.
Although we couldn’t get any specifics regarding that fact, but……
It seemed that the Devil had the power that simply defied any notion of common sense.
It seems that a B Rank Adventurer happened to be staying in the village on that day……
And even that Adventurer couldn’t put a single graze to the Devil’s body.
It was like an adult toying with a helpless child.
The Adventurer was just being played with by the Devil, and it was as if he was no match for it.
Like that, the Devil continued to lay waste to the entire village.
And apparently it enjoyed the slaughter it was creating.
It was as if it was indulging in destruction and chaos.
And just like that……. Pagos was destroyed.
But that fact was actually a blessing in disguise.
Because not all the villagers were killed.
With the Devil’s power, it would be easy to eradicate the entire village and its inhabitants.
However, apparently that was not the Devil’s goal at all.
Destroying the village was like a child’s play for it…….
And then, once it got bored with it, it simply moved away from it at a whim.
「It’s going to be one hell of a tricky opponent, in more ways than one.」
「Yes, you can say that again.」
I agreed with Cell’s musings.
A ridiculous amount of power, and an extremely brutal character to boot.
I wouldn’t want to deal with something like that in person if I could.
…….. But oh well, that’s not really how this works.
「We have gotten a lot of information, but the biggest thing is that we have been able to figure out what it looks like.」
「Yes, that’s right.」
According to what I heard from the villagers of the now destroyed Pagos village……
The Devil was said to be donning the guise of a young girl with wings.
That girl had shining silver hair and eyes the color of deep crimson.
She was also wearing a jet black dress, something that was supposedly symbolizing death itself.
When I heard all of that information, I immediately thought of a certain girl that I knew.
「…… Iris……」
