Cell said, as if to add up a missing piece of information.

「Yes, and at that time…… Well, I was actually prepared to die. I’m not even kidding.」

「So, how did you manage to get out of that tight spot?」

「I was actually rescued by the Hero himself.」

「…… Rescued? By Arios?」

「Well, apparently, he just happened to be passing by that monsters’ nest. And then after he rescued me, he gave me quite an earful about stopping being so reckless and not doing something so stupid in the future. Of course, he slew all the monsters and rescued me all on his own, without anyone’s aid……」

Did Arios seriously do something like that?

Because honestly, I can’t really imagine the current Arios ever being able to do something like that for someone else, and expecting no reward afterwards……

「When I thanked him for saving me, the Hero only laughed at me and said not to worry about it all that much. And more importantly, he seemed to be glad that I was okay and unharmed.

「Nyah……?」

Kanade seemed to have doubts about Ax’s words, and she tilted her head slightly to the side in puzzlement.

「I was honestly moved to my core at that time. I didn’t really think that there was even a person like that in this world. And then…… Later I found out that the person who saved me was actually the Hero. He was someone who could put his own body on the line for someone else and wield his power for someone else’s sake. As a man, I deeply respect him for doing something like that.」

「So, does that mean that you admire the Hero to such an extent?」

「Yes, that’s right. I have always longed to be that kind of person myself. As I was saved by the Hero, I want to help others in the same way. That’s what I thought at the time. This is the new principle of action that has shaped the current me into the person I am today.」

「I see……」

「It’s honestly weird to see you being so serious about something all of a sudden like that.」

「Hey, hey, now! I’m always serious about the things I do!」

Ax managed to answer Kanade’s remark with a smile on his face.

「But be that as it may……」

The impression of Arios that I was able to hear from Ax was very different from the Arios I knew.

From what I have heard, it sounded like Aggath and the others were not with him yet at that time, so he might have been acting all on his own……

Yes, so it must have been a really long time ago.

THe current Arios seemed to be problematic in more ways than one……

But does that mean that the old Arios also had a personality worthy of being called a true Hero in the first place?

But if that was indeed the truth, then where did he go wrong? What managed to twist him so much?

It was actually an interesting story in an unexpected way.

「But still, I’m rather surprised.」

Cell said so with a blank look on her face, like she was not really surprised all that much.

「Hm? Yeah? About what?」

「That you actually knew the Hero.」

「Say what now!?」

Of course, Ax jumped onto that revelation right away, without wasting any time at all.

「Didn’t you talk to him earlier in a friendly…… Oh well, it wasn’t exactly a friendly manner…… but weren’t you two talking normally to one another?」

「Ah…… Umm, yeah. I mean, I guess you could say that we are somewhat acquainted?」

「Oh wow, that’s seriously so amazing! For you to personally know the Hero…… How did you manage to meet him!? And where!?」

「I was actually on a small request, and I just so happened to bump into him by chance.」

Well, I was actually in the Hero’s Party before…… But if I was to mention that fact right here and right now, it would only serve to complicate things even further, so for the time being I decided to cover it up.」

「Alright, guys. Let’s save the chit-chat for later, shall we?」

Cell said in a tone of voice that seemed to suggest that the time for goofing around was over.

「You may be wondering about the Hero all you want, but that doesn’t change the fact that we have our own work here to do. So let’s just keep on investigating.」

「But you have already done the interviews, haven’t you?」

Kanade asked, looking all curious and puzzled.

「Yes, that’s right. We are done with the inquiries. So what comes after that is……」

「We shall use the information we managed to get from the interviews to dig up more information.」

Ax said, taking over Cell’s words.

Cell, who was interrupted like that in a rather rude way, looked a little unhappy about it, but continued to talk nonetheless.

「We have been able to get a little bit closer to uncovering the Devil’s true identity, but its purpose and what kind of means of attack it has, that kind of thing remain as unknown to us as ever. From now on, we are going to focus on that area of investigation……. What do you think?」

「Well, I can’t really argue with that.」

「Me too!」

「It’s decided, then.」

By unanimous consent, our next course of action was decided without any problem.

I don’t see any problems with that particular course of action, so I’m sure Tanya and the others who aren’t here will agree with me as well.

「But where exactly are we going to look?」

「I have actually got an idea about that.」

As if she had anticipated Ax’s question beforehand, Cell pulled out a map of the area, centered around the Jizu village.

She then pointed to the center of the map.

「This is the Jizu village where we are now. And further down south, right around here…… It’s the place where Pagos used to be.」

「At the foot of the mountain, huh……?」

「I think we need to go and investigate the village first. I think there’s a lot for us to be gained from surveying the field around it as well.」

「Yeah.」

I agreed with Cell’s idea.

「And then I think it would be worthwhile to go and climb the mountain just outside of Pagos.」

「Hmm?　Why would you climb a mountain?　Tourism, perhaps?」

「I wouldn’t do something so stupid like that. Goodness gracious…… If you aren’t going to help with anything, Ax, then you should just shut up.

「Oh Cell, that was so cold of you……」

Although Ax got teary-eyed, Cell continues to talk, completely unfazed by his reaction.

She was really strong. In more ways than one……

「I have spoken to some survivors, and they told me that the Devil was supposedly sealed away inside of a small shrine at the top of the nearby mountain.」

「…… I see. So that’s how it is, huh?」

「Nyah? Rein and Cell…… You obviously seem to know what that fact means, but…… What does that mean, exactly?」

「If we are to go to that mountaintop and investigate that shrine, we might actually be able to find some info on the Devil, or maybe even learn of a possible way in which we would be able to seal it once more. But even if that won’t work, I think it would still be beneficial for us to go there and have a look around the shrine.」

「Oh, now I get it, nya.」

「With that being said, I don’t think that anyone is going to object to that idea, but…… Do we all agree that we should go to the ruins of the Pagos village and investigate the nearby mountains in search of a way to re-seal the Devil?」

Everyone nodded their heads in unison, confirming to me that there was indeed no problem with that set course of action.
