CHAPTER 219: AN UNEXPECTED COMPANION PART 1

Becoming Thalia-sama’s escort.

This proposition was so unexpected that it clearly managed to catch all of us off guard.

「Your escorts? But why us?」

「I thought it would be a very good idea, since you all seem so dependable. Especially with the way in which you managed to save us from danger just now…… Not to mention that you have the Ultimate Species for your companions. Don’t you think it’s perfectly normal to rely on someone who is so strong?」

「Well, it’s not like I can’t understand where you are coming from with that line of logic, but……」

The Princess herself asked us to be her escorts.

So I don’t want to downright refuse her.

However, if we were to accept her request and become her temporary escorts, wouldn’t that serve to ruin the good name and reputation of this Alec and the other knights?

That was the thing that I was the most concerned about here.

Hmm, I see. I think I have a pretty good idea about the general situation here.

Thalia-sama must have received some kind of order from the king to go to Sheer Rock and do some sort of job or mission there.

The lack of guards at her side was most probably a cover story to hide the hidden activity of the royal family to a certain extent.

But what was of particular interest to me here, was the secret and sensitive nature of this job or mission that the Princess received.

But since that part of her mission was presumably already over, then it wouldn’t turn out to be any kind of roadblock or obstacle to us.

I then cast a quick glance at my companions.

Everyone nodded their heads in response to my gaze. Well, everyone with the exception of Sora and Luna, who were still pretty much out of commission.

「…… I understand. If it’s okay with you to have us as your escorts, then we would gladly accept that request.」

「Thank you very much.」

And thus, we were to take on the role of the Princess’s escorts for the time being.

I could hear happy and excited voices like that coming from the direction of the slowly moving Princess’s carriage.

As the Princess’s escorts, Sora and Luna were allowed to sit together with Thalia-sama inside of her carriage.

It would seem that the ride in the royal family’s exclusive carriage was very comfortable and obviously way better than ours, and Sora and Luna hardly even got any motion sickness ever since then.

The carriage that our group was using was following closely behind the Princess’s, and……

Kanade, Nina and Tina waited in the back of the column, just in case something tried to approach us from the back.

Tanya and I walked outside of the carriage, right next to in on both sides, and we served as the ground escorts alongside the Princess’s knights.

Alec and the other three knights continued to walk in absolute silence.

They have all maintained expressionless faces, but the atmosphere between our two parties seemed to be somewhat hard and awkward.

Even though this whole situation was the result of the idea of their Master, Thalia-sama……

I guess it was only natural for the knights to think that outsiders would never be able to serve as good escorts.

So this cannot be helped, as unfortunate as that might be.

It was pretty much as if the Princess herself was telling them that they were not enough to properly protect her on the road back home.

So this must have hurt their pride as knights greatly, even if they were not openly admitting that.

However, since they showed such ineptitude in that recent skirmish when they were nearly overpowered by the ogres, they were not exactly in any position where they could possibly oppose or refuse the idea.

So in a sense, they had no other choice but to accept the Princess’s suggestion without a word.

As for us, I would actually like for our two groups to get along, since we were going to be traveling together for a while now, but still……

「…… Hmph.」

My eyes met Alec’s eyes and he blatantly looked away.

I guess that getting along with him and his men is going to be rather difficult from here on out.

Realizing that fact, I let out a deep and long sigh in a way that no one else would notice.

We built a fireplace and set up our tents……

Then, we lightly explored the surroundings in search of any monsters.

After confirming that there were no monsters nearby, We continued to prepare for the encampment once again.

Alec and the other knights had also started preparing their camp as well.

They set up a big and luxurious tent.

That would be Thalia-sama’s private sleeping quarters for the duration of the night.

Soon, the preparations for the encampment were also finished.
