CHAPTER 251: ARIOS’S MOVE PART 2

With that, Monica turned on her heel and turned her back to me.

The way she was just now, she was practically defenseless.

It really felt to me like I could take her down with a single strike of my dagger on the spot if only I had the courage to move and make that thought a reality.

But at the same time, what surfaced inside of my mind was a tremendous sense of danger.

In the end, exposing her defenseless figure like that was surely a trap that she set up for me……

Right now, she seemed like a predator, laying in wait for its unsuspecting prey to take the bait so that she could sink her teeth in it.

「Fufufu…… Well then, have yourself a nice day, Rein-san. Until we meet again.」

「I’m sorry, but I would rather if we did not have me meet one another ever again if I could help it.」

「Well, that’s just not fun at all.」

Monica stopped for a moment and turned around lightly and gave me a sultry look……

And then she simply walked off somewhere else and disappeared from my sight for good.

Right after Monica disappeared, I continued to be on high alert for a little while longer, but nothing seemed to happen after that.

It was just like she said. She simply walked away without trying to pull anything here or to trap me.

This Monica…… I am afraid that she is one more troublesome fellow that we are going to have to watch out for in the future.

I don’t know why, but at that very moment I got a strange feeling that there was a storm somewhere beyond the horizon, and that it was fast approaching.

Monica walked down an alleyway shrouded in darkness and then……

After a moment, she came to a halt.

She then dropped to her knees and bows her head instantly.

After she did that, the shadows right in front of her began to bulge and rise up.

It would continue to grow up, rise and swell up…… Until eventually those shadows assumed the shape of a person.

The being that emerged from the shadow was the Demon Tribe woman that Monica called Risu.

She was the one whom Monica was truly serving.

「Thank you for all of your hard work, my dear.」

Risu said so in a gentle voice, offering Monica some words of gratitude for all of her hard labor thus far.

「I am most terribly sorry, Risu-sama. Unfortunately, I was unable to bring the Rein Shroud onto our side. As you instructed me in advance, the magic tool that Rein Shroud took will remain intact for the time being and……」

「Oh, no need to report that, my dear. I was watching this entire scene go down, too.」

「I see. In that case, I beg your pardon.」

「But I must say…… Did he really refuse your kind invitation, Monica? Hmmm, that’s a shame. Truly a shame, I must say. And here I thought he would make for a good souvenir for Iris-san.」

「Just like I mentioned in my preliminary report in the past, this man, unlike that lousy excuse of a Hero, has very little in the way of personal greed or desire. It’s rather difficult to tempt such a man into joining us……」

「Oh, it’s not like I’m accusing you of failing to drag him onto our side, you know? No need for you to get the wrong idea here, my dear.」

Risu smiled as she looked into the vast expanse of the moonlit night. she then smiled in a chilling way.

「Whether our dear Rein Shroud returns on the shield or with the shield from this ordeal is of no real importance to us…… Because in either case, our purpose will be fulfilled here. Because if Rein Shroud fall during this time, this means that we can get rid of the people that would be a potential threat to us down the line. But if he lives through this…… Fufu, instead of him, who exactly is going to fall, I wonder?　Fufufu, it’s so very exciting, don’t you think?」

Risu’s laughter then echoed through the deep night.

After retrieving the magical tool, I was able to safely return back to where Thalia-sama was waiting for me.

To be perfectly honest, I don’t know much about magic tools to begin with, but it seems that Thalia-sama was actually studying them at one point in her life, so she could help me investigate it and extract the information that I was looking for.

However, I was told it would take some time before she would be finished with her task.

Apparently, that’s how complicated the magic tools are, and this one in particular.

Thalia-sama also estimated that it would take her roughly three days to get the magic tool properly analyzed.

No matter how you were to look at it, three days was a really long time for a task like that.

Especially right now, when every minute was precious to me, and time wasted would be putting me at even greater disadvantage.

And yet, I just couldn’t believe that she would have to devote three whole days worth of time to do it……

It was really frustrating, but…… Unfortunately enough, there was nothing that I could possibly do about it.

The only thing I could do now was to just wait and see what the results of Thalia-sama’s investigation would be.

All I could do here was to become Thalia-sama’s assistant and hope that it would be more than enough to speed up the process as much as possible.

And so, just like that…… Two days have passed.

There was only one day left to analyze the magic tool.

Then everything would be revealed to us.

But it was then that things took a sudden turn for the worse.

「Rein-sama, we’re in trouble!」

When I returned to our hiding place after scouting the city at the same time as buying our evening meal, Thalia-sama had an impatient and frightened look on her face.

As soon as she saw me, she rushed to my side with vigor.

「What’s going on, Thalia-sama?　You seem to be in a hurry.」

「Just a few moments ago…… A group of knights were passing by and handing out these things.」

Thalia-sama then handed me something that looked like an information pamphlet.

And in this pamphlet, the following message has been written:

“We shall be executing the treacherous Ultimate Species who turned out to be the enemy of the entire nation!”
