Beast Tamer Who Got Kicked Out From the Hero’s Party Chapter 47 Part 2
CHAPTER 47: TAKING A STROLL PART 2
The transportation of soldiers is an important aspect of war, after all.
Robust, faster carriages and other vehicles are being developed as a result.
For example, the expansion of supply lines.
In military operations, supporting supply lines is the number one consideration that can either make it or break it when it comes to victory.
Various efforts and innovations are being made to achieve this result.
…… And so on and so forth.
During wartime, many different developments and thoughts are produced.
And the results of those developments can change our daily lives as well.
There are even stories of how weapons developed for warfare were applied to develop tools to dig waterways more conveniently and comfortably.
In that regard, war may help develop civilization more than anything else in this world.
But in the grand scheme of things, it doesn’t really work that way.
War is all-consuming.
People die, supplies run out, and the earth rots away.
Everything is lost. Everything is deteriorating.
It is difficult to recover from such a situation.
It is not possible to stand up on your own; you must have many people huddled together in order to get by.
Those who cannot do so must eventually fall down.
Sometimes we are given new knowledge and skills to survive.
But more than that, humanity keeps on losing so much more.
…… That’s what war really is.
「I see……」
「Fumuh…… That is certainly an interesting take on it.」
As I shared my theory with Sora and Luna, they both nodded their heads coyly several times.
For some reason, I felt like a scholar giving a lecture to his students.
「This is a bit of a digression, but humans and the Demon Lord have been at war with each other for quite some time now. Of course, it hasn’t been going on all the time without breaks, mind you. Once a war starts, it lasts for a few years but after that, the Demon Lord goes quiet for the next few decades or so. In the last two hundred years, umm…… If I remember correctly, there have been about five wars or so?」
「Five times, huh…… Hmm. Should we see it as more or should we be happy that there were not more of those?」
「Yes, maybe that’s why civilization doesn’t thrive…… because that kind of thing is repeated constantly.」
「In the first place, why is the Demon Lord so hostile towards humans?」
「That’s the thing. Nobody knows for sure. If we did understand that, maybe we wouldn’t be having such a hard time.」
In past wars, it was the Hero who would usually defeat the Demon Lord.
However, the Demon Lord was only being defeated. He was never destroyed completely.
I don’t know how it’s done, but a new Demon Lord is always born after that.
And then the new Demon Lord would start a war anew, as if he hated humans and there would be conflict again.
After that, it’s all the same thing, repeating itself over and over again.
The Demon Lord revives and the Hero also awakens at the same time.
The Hero defeats the Demon Lord, but the Demon Lord resurrects after a while……
The same thing has been repeating itself over and over again for decades, if not for hundreds of years now.
「Sora has lived in the backcountry all her life, so she didn’t know about humanity’s circumstances.」
「Umu…… I didn’t know anything about that, either. I never even tried to learn about human nature in the first place. I dismissed it as unneeded knowledge and just willingly ignored it.」
「You know what you know, and you don’t know what you don’t know. But if you don’t know something, you can always opt to learn about it. That is why we possess the ability to learn in the first place.」
「Yes, you can say that again.」
「Rein, even though you are just a human, you say some really nice things from time to time, you know?」
The two then laughed happily.
The Spirit Tribe, which was said to never understand humans and be interested in them, but now its members were smiling alongside a human like this.
Perhaps………
Will humanity and the Demon Lord be able to come to an understanding some day?
It was just a thought that suddenly occurred to me.
「Whoa?」
Luna spun around on the spot and stared at something in the distance.
There was a lone hot dog stall.
「Hey, hey, Rain! What’s that?」
「…… That? Oh, that’s a hot dog. It’s a rather popular fast food item. It’s basically a sausage in a bun.」
「Sausage…… A what now?」
Is this where I need to start with my explanation?
「Umm…… It’s a finely minced meat that is then boiled and shaped in a stick-like shape.」
「Ho, ho…… You don’t say? Doesn’t it look delicious? I’m sure it will taste amazing!」
For a moment out there, I got a feeling that Luna’s personality seemed to have overlapped with that of Kanade’s.
It would seem that they were both foodies, through and through.
「Would you like to try it?」
「Can we!? Are you sure!?」
「I’m starting to get hungry myself, actually. And no, I don’t mind. You will eat one as well, right, Sora?」
「Are you really sure? But if it’s not too much of a burden, then by all means, yes, please.」
「It’s just some simple hot dogs, think nothing of it.」
We then approached the owner of the stall and bought three servings of hot dogs from him.
Since it’s not very polite to stand while you eat, we moved over to where the benches were and sat down for the time being.
「「「Thank you for the meal.」」」
At the same time, we took bites of our hot dogs.
We ripped through the sausages with our teeth, and the delicious meat juices overflowed from the inside of them.
The meat itself was juicy and nice and hot.
The hot and sweet sauce was also just right, and everything was wrapped up in the soft, fragrant bun.
「Oh yeah, that hits the spot just about right.」
Since it was a stall that sold those hot dogs, it could have been either a hit or miss, but……
Looks like this time around we managed to just hit the jackpot with this one.
I feel like I haven’t had a really good hot dog in a really long time.
「So? What do you think? How is your very first hot dog experience……」
「*MUNCH*! *MUNCH*! *MUNCH*! *MUNCH*! *MUNCH*! *MUNCH*! *MUNCH*!」
「Amuh! Hamuh! Haguh! Haguri! Aguh! Aguh! Nguh! Gokun!」
Both of them were eating at such a tremendous rate and so ferociously that they didn’t even have time to properly answer me.
Staining their mouths with the sauce, they ate in unison.
I didn’t need to ask them what they thought, after all. This reaction was all the info I needed.
「Well, I’m glad you liked it.」
「Huh…….how delicious this is! It was so delicious that I ate it all at once without even realizing it! What a waste…… Oh, the afterglow when I open my mouth is still there……」
.
「Hey, Rein? Can we get another one?」
「It’s almost noon, isn’t it? So no more for now, or you won’t be able to eat the proper meal later on.」
「Seriously……」
They both looked so terribly disappointed.
It honestly made me feel like I was doing something wrong.
「Let’s come here again some other time, shall we?」
「You said “again”! You said it! ‘Again’! It’s a promise, then!」
「And since this is a promise, we expect you to keep it!」
「Next time, we can take Kanade and Tania with us, and we’ll all eat together here.」
I imagined all of us eating hot dogs together under a blue sky.
It seemed like a very happy scene in my mind.
