CHAPTER 76: THE RETRIBUTION PART 1

When Arios returned to the inn where he and his entire Party were staying……

When he entered their room, he saw that Aggath, Rin and Mina were all sitting there.

「Ah, welcome back.」

「Where have you been?」

「Oh, that, I was just taking a little stroll, that’s all. So? What are you guys doing, looking so serious like that?」

「We have been gathering information regarding the previous incident in the city on our own, and we were just so happening to put the entire story together.」

「About what happened earlier, huh?」

「The information about what happened is really scarce since there seems to be a gag order regarding the incident. However, even with all the information control in place, it can be safe to assume that the monster that appeared within the city’s limits just the other day was most definitely a Demon.」

Mina said so with a serious look on her face.

The appearance of the Demon inside of the city’s limits was as serious of a situation as it could possibly get.

After all, such an incident has never happened in the past few years.

However, at the same time it was not like it was not not without precedent.

There was an incident where Demons appeared in the middle of a war with the Demon Lord a while back and attacked people in the city.

Considering that, this incident might be a sign that the Demon Lord was back and was preparing to start another war.

Mina suspected as much.

However, knowing full well that the Demon Lord had nothing to do with it at all, Arios replied in a carefree manner, not paying it that much mind.

「I don’t think that there’s a need to overthink this matter too deeply. I have heard that the Lord of this city was a person who would collect various antiques and other curios like that. For the most part, one of those items probably had a monster or even a Demon sealed inside of it, and it must have been unleashed by some sort of impetus.」

「I-Is that so……?」

「Like I said, there is little need to overthink this. Besides, all of the Demons have been subjugated already, haven’t they?　So we will probably never know the truth of that matter.」

「?Yes, but regarding that matter……」

Aggath opened his mouth to speak.

「Are you going to say something completely unnecessary again?」

Arios clicked his tongue in apparent dissatisfaction.

「Do you really think it was a good idea to just leave a Demon like that alone? Without us doing anything about it?」

「Again with this story……」

On the night of the incident.

Arios and his group staying in the city naturally understood that the Demon had appeared within the city’s limits.

On top of that, they decided to leave it alone, saying that it was probably not the kind of opponent that they should bother themselves with. So there was no need for the Hero’s party to mobilize, and they could just leave it to others to contain this crisis.

Although Aggath and Mina were initially reluctant about that idea, Arios pushed his decision through and would hear no objections.

After all, this entire situation was but a ploy devised by Arios himself.

It would be entirely meaningless if he deliberately made that fool summon the Demon in the middle of the city and then have to go and defeat it himself.

So he decided to ignore it for the most part. He decided to leave it alone so it could do whatever it pleased.

「There are lots of Adventurers in this city. There is also the Knights Order. So why would we have to bother with protecting their city in their place?」

「But what about the Demon?　He’s our enemy!」

「No. I think that you all misunderstand. Our one and only enemy is the Demon Lord himself. Not the Demon. Truth to be told, the Demons are only a small bonus while we are journeying towards our true objective.」

「But this is……」

「And besides, if we were no longer here, they would have to make do without our help. So that’s what we are making them do. We are not their handymen to do their every single bidding. We don’t have time to be bothered by such small fries. Wouldn’t you all agree?」

「Well, I can most definitely see where you are coming from with this, Arios, but……」

「Then we are done talking about this subject. Besides, it would do us no good if we were to go out now, now that the city is in chaos. There’s no point.」

「I understand.」

Convincing all of them was just too damn easy.

Arios laughed inside of his head without reservations.

After all, Aggath was a warrior whose only selling points was his strength and sturdiness.

And both Rin and Mina knew magic, but Arios could see that wisdom was not their strongest point.

So in the end, dealing with the three of them was easier than taking a proverbial candy from a baby.

Not knowing what Arios was thinking about such things, Aggath remained meek with an unreadable expression on his face.

「Is the Demon the only thing that the people are talking about around town as of late?」

「No, there are other things as well.」

「Say, how about we resume our journey soon? Personally, I am getting quite tired of this town already.」

Rin said, playing around with her hair.

And when she mentioned that, Arios started to think about it for a moment.

He was yet to erase Rein from existence.

He still hasn’t paid him back from the humiliation that Rein subjected him to.

So in order to exact his revenge, he used the Lord’s son to carry out the vast majority of his plan for him.

But that also ended up in failure.

Now, why did it fail?

Because Rein was able to withstand the instant Death spell?

Or was it because he was able to repel the Demon’s attack?

Thinking about this as well as a few other things, Arios let out a long and deep sigh.

He would have to come up with a new, even better plan.

There was no point in overthinking one single failure over and over again.

Let’s just take a step back and start everything from scratch.

Just don’t be impatient. Take your time and do this thoroughly.

You must never let your guard down.

Thinking such thoughts, it was only showing just how wary Arios was of Rein.

So for the time being, he could simply leave it at that.

Besides, if the Hero’s Party was to keep on dwelling in this city any longer, it would only serve to arouse unnecessary suspicion.

They still had to fulfill their original purpose.

Having decided to do just that, Arios called out to everyone.

「Well, I guess it really is high time to resume our journey.」

「Alright! That’s what I have been waiting for! For our next stop, I would like us to go to some more glamorous city!」
