CHAPTER 78: PROMOTION TO RANK C PART 1

「Congratulations!」

When I went to visit Natalie-san in the Adventurers’ Guild, she greeted me with a bright and beaming smile the very first moment I entered the building.

It was the kind of smile that made you feel really happy to see it, no matter what.

Could it be that something really good happened to her to smile like that?

But “Congratulations”…… Huh?

Wait, what does that even mean? Who was she congratulating?

「Hey, hey, what’s happening?　What are you celebrating? What’s the occasion?」

「Do you think that maybe you are going to get rewarded for resolving that Lord problem and the Demon incident from the other day?」

Kanade and Tanya asked me such questions one after another.

「No, no, no! That’s not what we are here to do today. Oh, but incidentally, we are going to get paid for all the troubles that we have been put through recently, though.」

Natalie-san said so, and then she moved to the back of the room for a moment, apparently looking for something there.

After a little while, she came back to us with a bunch of papers and documents in her hands.

Natalie-san repeated the same line for some strange reason.

“I’m pleased to announce that your Adventurer Rank has been upgraded to C Rank.”

「We are pleased to announce that your Adventurer rank has been upgraded to C Rank, Shroud-san!」

「HUH!?」

Everyone looked really surprised upon hearing that.

I probably had a very similar look on my face just now.

「Huh, a Rank Up, you say……」

I couldn’t help it but to actually repeat the same thing over and over again, having trouble believing in what I just heard.

「But it wasn’t that long ago that I was promoted to E Rank…… And I mean, what about D Rank? Aren;t you forgetting about that one?」

「Nyah? Does that mean that you are skipping that one?」

「Is it really possible for Adventurers to skip ranks just like that?」

Kanade and Sora started to speculate about that matter immediately after they heard the news.

Natalie-san smiled at us once more, as if to confirm their theory.

「Yes, you see…… Normally this would not be possible, but……. This time around, a special exception to the rule was granted.」

「And why is that?」

「Not only were you involved in the arrest of the Lord, but you have also defeated a Demon that was equivalent in strength to the A Rank Adventurer. There was a whole lot of discussion as to what to do about it, and it was decided that raising you by one rank would simply not be enough of a reward here. As a result, we have decided to let you skip the D Rank entirely and place you in C Rank as a special exception.」

Sora suggested right away.

Everyone started to congratulate me and celebrate in their own way.

And seeing and hearing them say all that was the best thing possible that I could have hoped for here.

I am really grateful for having met everyone in my party.

What if I was still on my own, without my trusty companions by my side?

Nina blushed heavily when she heard Natalie-san call her cute completely out of the blue like that.

But that gesture of hers only seemed to be fier up Natalie-san even more, as her smile became even more bright and even more beaming than usual.
