CHAPTER 79: LET’S FIND OURSELVES A HOUSE PART 1

Thanks to Natalie-san’s advice and guidance, we decided to look around the city for a house that would become our base of operations.

As the old saying goes: it’s best to strike the iron while it is still hot.

After completing all of the necessary Rank Up procedures at the Guild, I asked if Natalie-san could accompany us as we would go around the city, to serve as our advisor for the time being.

「Do you perhaps have some vision of the house you want to get in your mind? Or maybe some special wishes?」

As we walked around the city, Natalie-san was right there by my side, holding onto a clipboard with many papers and documents on it, asking me questions that would clarify what exactly we were looking for here.

「Hmm, well…… Let’s see……」

For a moment out there I was lost in thought, pondering that matter.

It took me a good moment to try and come up with something, but truth to be told, I was unable to think of anything in particular.

I mean, for the longest time the norm for me was staying at the rented rooms in various inns……

What kind of house would I like to have now?　It was a really important question that needed to be answered here, but I wasn’t even sure if I would be able to answer it at all.

Because when it comes to a house, I couldn’t even say that I had a clear image of it inside of my mind.

「Is there anything in particular that you would like the house to have, Kanade?」

「Umm…… Yes! A garden!」

「A garden?」

「Yes, it would be really nice to have a big yard, you know♪? A big enough yard so that I could run around in it freely.」

Could it be that those were her wild instincts as a Cat Spirit Tribe speaking?

But honestly, that answer was so like Kanade that it was simply wonderful.

「What about you, Tanya?」

「Hmm, let me think…… Yes, I would like for the rooms to be nice and clean. After all, I’m not going to be living in a dirty and run-down place…… Oh, and then the bed! I want to have a big bed! It’s an absolute must!」

「Is the bed the most important thing to you? What about the house as a whole?」

「Well, as long as I get to have a big and fluffy bed, I don’t really care about the rest of the house. Provided, of course, that it meets the minimum…… what do you humans call them…… standards? Yes, standards.」

Could it be that Tanya was feeling cramped in the room in which we were living just until now?

If that is the case, then I am truly sorry about this.

Once we actually manage to secure ourselves a house, I am going to buy Tanya as big and as soft of a bed as possible.

I mean…… as big and as soft within the limitations of our budget.

「What about you, Sora and Luna?」

「I would like for the house to have a wooden floor! It would be really nice to be able to feel the warmth of the wood under your feet!」

「I would like for the house to have a large, but easy to use and convenient kitchen.」

「Huh? Does that mean that you can actually cook, Luna?」

「…… Huh? Wait, why the surprised reactions? How rude! I’m a great cook, despite my appearance, I’ll let you all know!　Fuahahahaha! Now, if we have a nice kitchen, I’ll treat you to some truly delicious homemade meals, Rein!」

「When that time comes, Sora is going to help you out.」

「Muguh…… It’s not like I really need your help in the kitchen, Sister Dearest.」

「Hm? Why? Let me help if I can do it! After all, we are sisters, Luna! And as the older sibling, I can’t possibly leave my little sister to do all the heavy lifting.」

「U-Umu, no, but, this is…… Please don’t take it the wrong way, Sister Dearest, but the dishes that you are usually making are not exactly food, but rather…… tactical grade weapons, I would say? Umm, you see, I mean…… You know what? Nervermind. Yeah, as long as you never actually feed Rein with it, there shouldn’t be that much of a problem.

The sight of the two sisters cooking together in harmony…… Now that was what I could call a truly homely image.

Thinking about things like that, I was getting more and more fired up about finding the right house for us all.

……..I also think that I heard something rather disturbing there as well, but for the time being I decided to not really dwell on it all that much. There was no point in doing that.

「Now, what about you, Nina? Do you have any special preferences?」

「Umm, well, this is…… M-My opinion on the matter…… shouldn’t really be…… all that important, so……」

「Now, now, that’s not how this is going to work, Nina. You are one of our precious companions now. So we are not going to ignore whatever it is that you have to say.

「Ah……」

「Do you happen to have any idea about what kind of house you’d like to live in?」

「Umm, this is…… uhh…… a bath……」

「A bath?」

「I would like…… the house to have…… a large bath. Because having a bath…… feels really good…… and nice…..」

Hmm, I see. A bath, huh?

Since the inn is a palace where a whole lot of different people come and go all the time, the hygienic aspect of their bath was a major concern. And since those baths tend to be large and communal, you often have to bathe together with strangers, which is not always comfortable.

But if we had a private bath, then we could use it as much as we want, without having to concern ourselves with other people. It would be a whole different level of comfort.

「Nyah…… I’m not very good at taking baths, I must admit.」

It seems that the Cat Spirit Tribe has certain characteristics similar to those of cats, so apparently Kanade was not good at bathing in general.

Perhaps she imagined the scene of being forced inside of a bath, but Kanade’s tail was visibly chattering.

「Kanade, let me tell you something: you don’t know just how much you are missing out on if you have never had a good bath before. It’s like, more than fifty percent of a great life!」

「T-That much……!?」

「Yeah, plus it feels really good to bathe with your close friends. I guarantee it.」

「Everyone together…… Does that mean that Sora and Luna would hop in as well? Do you like that idea this much?」

「Sure thing! I love me a good bath!」

「W-Well, I mean…… I like the idea of bathing together, but it might be a little hard to actually pull off in a private house with a small bath.」
