Chapter 11 Part 2

Priest. A Healer.

Just thinking about those words is making it hard for me to breathe.

 

Before Jannet could say the reason, Vince butted in to explain.

 

「Hahaha, listen to this, Katie! All of us, the Hero, Holy Knight, and Sage can use healing magic! That’s why a Healer is useless in our party!」

 

When I heard him say that out loud so happily, I turned my face so he couldn’t see me frowning.

Jannet was still expressionless.

 

I wonder what Katie-san would say in response…

Is she going to say something along the lines of 『Oh my! Then I guess there is no need for a Healer after all!』 as I thought?

If an outsider like her would agree with him and say something like that… I don’t know if I can hold back…

 

「Oh my…」

 

Katie-san stabs her fork into the fish.

 

I can feel I’m getting more tense thinking what kind of insult she will say about Russell———

 

「That’s a bit too convenient way of thinking, isn’t it~?」

 

———Huh?

 

What’s… with that reaction?

Her reaction was weaker than I thought.

 

She then brings the fork with the fish dish into her mouth with an indifferent expression. 「Hmmm~ the dishes in this restaurant are delicious indeed~」, she said, seemingly more interested in the dish in front of her than the fact that all three of us can use healing magic.

Compared to how joyful she was when we were talking about the Hero Party’s success just a few minutes ago, anyone would find her indifferent manner of speaking surprising.

Katie-san’s surprisingly disinterested reaction must’ve flipped a switch inside Vince as he raised his voice louder than before.

 

「Oi oi, don’t you understand? The three of us are like Healers already! We don’t need the likes of a Sai—— Priest in our party, rather, those useless Healers who don’t even have a way to attack the enemy are nothing but a burden and a waste of resources!」

 

「Vince, the other customers are watching.」

 

「…Tch. My bad.」

 

I warned Vince who suddenly stood up and started shouting loudly, with a stern voice and he returned to his seat.

After hearing what he said, I can’t look at Vince and turn my face away from him.

 

…What was that just now?

 

The words 『Priest』 and 『Healer』.

 

Did he say all those things with the 『Saint』, our childhood friend, Russell, in his mind?

 

Jannet picks up the fish from the edge of the table to the side of her plate expressionlessly. She dropped her dish? Did her hand slip?

Perhaps even Jannet can’t stay calm inside after hearing all that.

 

「Ehem… I apologize in advance if this sounds a bit rude, but… Sage-san— I mean, Jannet-san…」

「Yes. Have you learned “Cure”?」

 

「Un, I learned that magic when I was level 15 Sage. And now I’m already at level 26.」

 

Hearing those numbers, Katie-san nodded her head.

 

「By the way, what about “Fireball”?」

 

「I learned that one from level 1.」

 

「Right, I suspected that was the case since you are the 『Pinnacle of Mages, Sage』.」

 

……Eh?

A word that never knew suddenly came up in the middle of the conversation.

 

「Katie-san, what do you mean by 『Semi-Sorcerer Sage』?」

 

「Oh, you didn’t know? Actually, a 【Sage】 is a job that can use the skills of both a 【Priest】 and a 【Mage】. However, I guess it is more precise to call it the in-between of a 【Saint】 and a 【Sorcerer】.」

 

「In… between?」

 

Yes. A 【Saint】 is the pinnacle of Priest while a 【Sorcerer】 is the pinnacle of Mage. And then there’s 【Sage】, a job that can use the magic of both of these jobs. Since you can use Fireball at level 1, which a Mage only learns after they reach level 2, you are definitely leaning more on the Sorcerer side. Although the healing magic isn’t as good as that of a Priest, Jannet-san’s 【Sage】 is an excellent job that is almost as strong as a Sorcerer, with the addition of being able to also use healing magic.

 

Even when she said that it was “an excellent job”, I was struck by an elusive thought that kept whirling in my mind.

Sage is not a substitute for Priest…… but it’s lower than that?

 

Jannet, who seems to have the same question, asks it in my stead.

 

「….By the way, when is a Priest can learn “Cure”?」

 

「From level 10, I believe. The number of people who receive this job is rare in the first place, and it is quite difficult for a 【Priest】 who specializes in healing to reach level 10, but once they reach this level, their life can get so much easier. Cure consumes a lot of magic power to use, but Priests can make a living by receiving donations for using this magic in various cities.」

 

“Of course, there are some Priests who prefer to continue being an adventurer too”, Katie-san added and her explanation ended there.

But as if refusing to lose in the argument, Vince still insisted that it doesn’t change anything since all three of us can use healing magic.

Katie-san on the other hand, didn’t deny his point, but rather praised him by saying 「It’s amazing that all of you can use it〜」

She indeed praised us…. but those praises sounded so empty to the point that it’s easy to tell that she didn’t actually agree with him.

 

As I look at Katie-san’s smiling face, I can feel dark clouds hanging over our party.

There is this sense of uneasiness that I can’t put into words.

 

We learned that 【Sorcerer】 is the counterpart of 【Saintess】.

Also, the fact a 【Priest】 has a better proficiency in healing magic than a 【Semi-Sorcerer Sage】.

 

——Then… What about 【Saint】 that’s the same as a 【Saintess】?

 

I was too afraid to know the answer to that question and never asked in the end.
