Chapter 25 Part 1
【Hero’s Party Side】Emmy:With How A Girl Of The Same Age Shines Brightly As She Fills Up The Hole In Our Lacking Party, The Darker My Shadow Seems To Become
「Great… Heal?」
I repeated what Jannet, who’s in front of me, said.
After we defeated the boss of the eighth floor and collected the rewards, Katie-san said 『 I’m convinced of Vince-san’s ability as a hero now』, so we decided to return from the dungeon.
Jannet and I then returned to our room and Vince formally invited Katie-san to our party.
Of course, Katie-san agreed immediately. The moment Vince invited her to the party, she hugged him and it was… how should I put it, I can’t help but think she was amazing for being so aggressive. As expected, city people are built differently.
After that, well, we exchanged the drops we’d gotten for some cash, ate dinner, and returned to our new inn. This place is larger than the one we stayed at before.
And now, while Vince is using the bathhouse attached to the inn, the girls’ group is having a little girl’s talk in our room.
「Un, apparently it’s a higher version of Heal.」
It feels like Jannet seems somewhat happier than usual when she explains this to me.
She probably saw how I was unable to completely heal my injuries after casting Heal once when we were fighting the Boss earlier.
That must’ve made her worry and I feel bad about it. I think Jannet is the only one we can count on when we’re in trouble.
After all, whether it’s me or Vince, our heads aren’t as good as hers.
「My my~」
Katie-san suddenly chimed in in the middle of our conversation.
「It’s great that you’ve finally learned Great Heal, isn’t it~ Just the right time, because I was starting to think that a single Heal alone won’t be enough to heal your injuries. By the way, what level did you learn?」
「Ah, yes… I learned it at level 30.」
「Hmmmm~…」
Katie-san puts her hand over her mouth as if thinking about something.
「Umm… is there something wrong?」
「Hm? Oh my! I’m sorry for being quiet all of the sudden. No, it’s nothing, really~」
Hearing that obviously evasive reply, Jannet grabbed Katie-san’s shoulder before I could. I was surprised to see Jannet, who’s usually reserved to make such a drastic move.
Although… she seems struggling to grab her shoulder due to a little height difference between them.
「Katie-san.」
「O-oh my, what is it?」
「Please tell me. At what level a 【Priest】 will learn Great Heal?」
Jannet asked about the healing magic she had just learned.
In addition, the information about a priest which we don’t have in our party.
The Job Jannet received was 【Sage】.
However, according to Katie-san, a 【Sage】 is a job that’s like a mix between a 【Saintess】 and a 【Sorcerer】.
After hearing about at what level Jannet learned her magic, Katie-san judged that Jannet is a Sage who’s 【closer to Sorcerer】.
What she said is correct because Jannet is in fact an expert in offensive magic who can use four attributes of magic and shoots a bunch of Fire Magic even from level 1.
Recently, it took longer for her to level up and she rarely learns new magic, but the scale of the magic she can use is nothing sort of ordinary.
That’s why it took longer for her to learn Healing Magic. It’s even at a slower rate than normal Priests.
That was fine up until now, but the Floor Boss we fought today must have made her realize that she can no longer rely on these magic alone.
We need more information on Healing Magic.
Jannet wasn’t even in charge of the party’s defense or healing, but she must have sensed this right away and decided to ask Katie-san to tell her the level when she could learn more Healing Magic.
As expected of the brain of our party, she’s so dependable.
「Hmm… it varies depending on the person, but… usually, Priests would be able to learn Great Heal at level 18, I think? I also think that Jannet-san is actually slower even among Sages that lean more toward a Sorcerer.」
「Hmmm, I see… Oh, sorry for grabbing your shoulders all of a sudden. Thank you for telling me.」
「No no, I don’t mind~! If you have any questions or anything you want to know, please feel free to ask me anything, fufu~!」
She looked so happy even when Jannet apologized with so little words. Katie-san really is a mature person, huh.
And hearing Katie-san’s cheerful reply, Jannet had a gloomy expression on her face.
Just as I was about to say something to cheer her up, the door swung open.
Who appeared in the room was Vince wearing a minimalistic outfit.
「Yo, I’m finished bathing!」
「This bastard! Does your mother never teach you to knock before entering a room!?」
「Uohh?! Oi oi, come on, it’s not like it’s the first time that you’ve seen me like this, right? In the first place—-」
Vince is about to say something when Jannet claps her hands loudly twice.
Both Vince and I closed our mouths in surprise at her unexpected action.
I don’t know if it’s because she’s in high spirits, but she’s been taking a lot of action this whole day which is very unusual for her.
「Alright, let’s end this conversation here. Katie-san, thank you for your hard work today. Please go ahead and take a hot bath.」
「Oh my, is it really alright?」
「Of course.」
With Jannet’s reply, Katie-san quickly went to take a bath in the inn’s bathhouse as if she had already made that decision some time ago.
Jannet went to see her off at the door and made sure her figure disappeared from the hallway, and watching her doing this, both Vince and I looked at each other and tilted our heads, convinced that she was indeed acting strangely.
After confirming that Katie-san properly went in the direction of the bathhouse, Jannet entered the room, closed the door, and sighed.
「……Jannet, what’s up with you today? Is there something wrong?」
「”Is there something wrong?”, what are you saying? Of course there is.」
Jannet beckoned me and Vince with a look as if we were stating the obvious.
Then she said it in a low voice.
「Up until now, there was never a situation where you were the only guy in the party surrounded by girls because Russell was there, and you just don’t want Katie-san to know that, don’t you?」
「Urgh…!」
「N-Now that you mentioned it…!」
Uwaa that was unbelievably stupid of me! Vince and I were just about to talk about Russell in front of Katie-san.
I don’t want Katie-san to know that the members of the Hero Party all agreed to kick Russell out.
I think it’s despicable of me to say this… but I want to hide the mistakes that would disappoint the person who admires us that much.
Really… I just keep piling lies on top of lies and now I feel like I’m trapped in a quagmire.
I don’t know just how much trouble Vince and I would’ve gone through if Jannet wasn’t with us.
「Sorry, you’ve really helped us there.」
「Nn, I was a little caught off guard, too. And there is one thing I wanted to consult you guys about.」
I nodded quickly since it was coming from Jannet, who is the brain of our party.
「Vince, I’m sure deep inside, you have realized this already, but the Heal you cast back then activated normally. But it’s just that it won’t fully heal the injuries from the Floor Boss unless you cast it twice.」
「……I—I’m…」
「《Great Heal》」
Jannet suddenly cast her magic.
None of us were injured. A light shone from our bodies, which indicated that the magic activated properly, but of course, nothing happened.
I see… she just wanted to show Vince the magic she learned, that’s why she suddenly cast the magic.
