Chapter 27 Part 1

Learning The Heights Of Crisis Prevention Ability From My Adventurer-senpai, Sybilla

Sybilla opened her mouth as the end of the dungeon’s second floor with red-colored ground, which still feel weird to me no matter how much I look at it, was in sight.

「We’ve been walking at quite a quick pace, but… I think I’m starting to get the whole layout of this floor.」

「Really?」

「Yep. There’s a wall on our left, right?」

Sybilla stepped forward and looked back at me, then tapped the fairly smooth wall with the back of her right hand which was wrapped in a leather glove.

「There’s a wall there, yeah.」

「The place we’re at right now is on the other side of the stairs, like, far on the other side, you see. And since earlier, there weren’t any paths on this wall facing this way.」

……Ah, I think I get what she’s trying to say here.

If we compare this floor to a rectangular mansion, this place is like the furthest wall on the other side of the entrance, huh?

「The entrance to the Floor Boss area is probably straight ahead, or if not, then maybe in the center of this floor. Well, it’s a rule of thumb based on my experience, so I could be wrong.」

If Sybilla said it was based on her experience, then it must have been the same layout in multiple dungeons in the past. That alone is a reliable piece of information.

Encountering the Floor Boss area straight away after descending the staircase isn’t very common after all.

「Well, let’s go ahead and take a look, shall we?」

Sybilla said as she returned to walk by my side.

「Come to think of it, even though Living Armors are slow as you said, you always came back to my side right away to get inside the Wind Barrier, huh?」

「Isn’t that natural?」

……Is it?

I think in this dungeon as long as you don’t approach the enemy recklessly, there would be no problem moving ahead on your own.

「That’s what I call letting your guard down.」

「I know not having a sense of danger is bad to be totally honest, but really, wouldn’t there be any danger at all if you just kept your distance?」

「……Well, you’re not wrong. But normally, if you keep shooting offensive magic from a distance, your magic power will run out in no time. So, brute forcing your way through this kind of place using only magic is quite a problematic muscle-brain way of thinking, you know?」

Hey, don’t talk about other people as if they have no brain to think.

You’re the one who told me to do just this method in the first place.

「…Whoa there! Just when you brought it up, the reason why I said that came at the right time! Quickly recast the magic just in case!」

Sybilla said and came close enough to lean against my body.

「Hm? By recast, do you mean… 《Wind Barrier》, is this okay?」

Before I could hear a response from Sybilla as to whether or not my action was correct, the answer came back from the other direction.

The sound was high-pitched and deafening, like light metal being slammed into the ground.

「…….! 《Dark Sphere》!」

I shoot my magic in the direction of the attack.

Of course, since I assumed that I wouldn’t be able to defeat it in one hit, I fired twice or three times.

The Living Armor that received a direct hit from my Dark Sphere made a rattling sound, signaling its end.

What was that just now….?

「As you can see, it’s a crossbow type.」

「Crossbow…!」

The Living Armor here is slow and has a naturally smaller attack range than long-range magic.

If we attacked them before they got close, we could always defeat them before they could do anything to us.

The weapons they were using were swords, spears, axes, and so on.

The ones we’ve encountered so far were only using such melee weapons. So this type just completely slips my mind.

I had not considered the possibility that there were Living Armors with weapons that could attack at long range.

…….With arrows with that kind of momentum, it could have been dangerous if I hadn’t cast a magic to repel projectiles.

「Did you predict that this type will show up?」

「Something like that. I wasn’t sure that it would show up, but once I thought about it and considered the possibility, I couldn’t help but wonder that if it existed, then it might be the one that could kill me if I’m not careful」

So, you were just guessing, and you moved close to me, thinking that you would be in a safe zone if you stayed next to me all the time.

That’s a great sense of danger.

「I see. Thanks, that was insightful.」

I thank Sybilla and start walking again.

This time, I proceeded more carefully than before.

After walking for some time, the dungeon seems to be gradually getting darker and darker.

From the crossroads directly behind us, this corner feels clearly strange.

「……Looks like I was right.」

Sybilla was muttering something in front of me.

I nervously walk out with my hands in front of me, too.

Ready to shoot my magic at any moment.

——In that instant.

I see a red light in front of me, and at the same time, I hear a strange, rhythmic sound.

「《Dark Sphere》!」

I shoot my magic, and at the same time…

「《Stone Wall》!」

Sybilla also suddenly used her magic.

The magic she cast was Stone Wall. A relatively thick stone wall appears in front of us, blocking our view.

After that, Sybilla pulled my hand by force as we retreated toward the dungeon wall.

As we barely managed to retreat toward the wall, I put my hand on the wall and looked at the Stone Wall made by Sybilla destroyed with a roaring sound.

What appeared in the place where we had just been was a Living Armor completely different from what we had seen before.

——It’s a Living Armor riding an armored undead horse.

It would’ve been dangerous without Sybilla’s quick action to cast that Stone Wall

As I followed the monster with my eyes while blocking the debris from the Stone Wall with my arms, Sybilla’s shout reached my ears.

「Russell, block its escape route!」

「…! 《Dark Sphere》…… 《Dark——》」

(……《Dark Sphere》……)

I didn’t reply back and just immediately shot my magic as she told me to.

Remembering what I practiced earlier, I shoot the Dark Sphere on the ground slightly behind the intersection and to the left of the curve and let it explode.

As the armored horse stopped and stood on its hind legs, the third Dark Sphere I shot hit that leg.

「Nice! 《Stone Wall》!」

Sybilla who’s right beside me strikes a guts pose.

Right after that, she created a stone wall to close the intersection and completely blocked the Living Armor’s escape route.

It seems horses can’t change direction on the spot as well as humans can, so I shoot my magic at it while it stays in one spot.

Despite its size, the monster quickly crumbled after taking a few damage from the magic.

「…Did we defeat it?」

I guess so. See? Fast monsters aren’t as tough as they looked. It’s true that cavalry is strong when things are going as they planned, but they are weak against obstacles and unexpected situations.

I see… so that’s why we were able to win quite easily earlier, huh?
