Fiancée of the Wizard Volume 8 Chapter 5 Part 1
It was terrifying how the surroundings were completely silent. The silence hurt his ears. Amidst this silence, the spirits that always resided around Agedilus were running about, screaming. Agedilus gradually awakened and noticed how his spirits were.
He felt his eyelids were very heavy, as if something heavy was placed on it. Because of this, even if he tried to lift his eyelids, it did not open as if they were stuck with glue onto his face. It was not just his eyelids that did not move as he intended to. His whole body felt so heavy it felt like lead. He could not help but feel irritated at this situation.
Why am I in such a state? Agedilus asked himself in the back of his mind. But immediately, he understood that it was not time to foolishly remain basking in contemplation.
He had fallen unconscious after protecting Filmina. Then, he was pierced in the stomach by Noct. It should have been only a few minutes since this. However, these few minutes were fatal. With just these few minutes, the demon could have easily killed Filmina. Just to make him, Agedilus Von Lancent, the pure black magician, into the second demon lord.
I won’t let such a ridiculous thing happen. Filmina. Her name was the strongest spell. A unique spell that was much more reliable than any other magic spell. He only relied on the echo of this spell. Meanwhile, he desperately tried to maintain his consciousness that was about to be swallowed by the darkness if he did not remain cautious.
「Fil, mi, na」
With an irritably slow motion, Agedilus finally opened his eyes. Then, he could not help but widen his eyes.
「——Ah, darling」
It was a calm voice. However, certainly, the voice wielded a sense of relief and joy. Agedilus only realized that his head was placed on Filmina’s lap after a while. Filmina was directly sitting on the floor. She was looking into him. Her lips slowly drew an arc, and her eyes mellowed.
「Phew. You have awakened」
Filmina’s hand shifted Agedilus’s fringe that was sticking onto his face. Agedilus was definitely familiar with the way she touched him, as if she was consoling him. Her hands carefully and gently touched him as if it was caressing a treasure. Agedilus always adored her hands. He unmeasurably loved her hands.
When was it? When he had accidentally spilt his honest feelings saying, 「more」. Then, Filmina had widened her eyes as if surprised, then reddened her cheeks. Laughing cheerfully, she had said, 「Ah, my adorable Edi is so affectionate」. Upon looking at her smile, he had realized that love can be boundless. In such a manner, Filmina’s smile should have been something warm.
But, he wondered why. Agedilus felt a chill run down his spine at the smile Filmina had while gazing down at him; at Filmina’s hand’s temperature.
「Filmi……! 」
He could not help but call her. At the very moment, for some reason, Agedilus froze. He finally realized that his injury in his stomach that was supposed to be there——pierced by Noct, was not there.
Now, being born as “pure black”, Agedilus had a body that was extremely “hard to die” due to the Mana and the Ether that filled the world. The world would forcibly try to keep the person borne as “pure black” alive. That was why, when Agedilus faced the peril of being sealed when he was young, he still survived. That was also why, when he had faced the demon general during the journey to destroy the demon lord, he survived.
However, it was different this time. It was not due to the world’s forces, but something different—an overwhelming magical power that was not Agedilus’s had healed his injury. Agedilus only realized this after a while. He could not help but realize so. And, the person that gave him such magical powers was.
「Filmina……? 」
Blankly calling this name, Agedilus lifted his upper body upright. Filmina gently supported Agedilus while he stared at her. Then, Filmina changed her expressions from a gentle smile to a worried face. She gently looked into his face.
「Please don’t force yourself」
「It, it is alright. This is nothing」
While feeling this oddity that he could not ignore, Agedilus answered Filmina. It was a smooth lie. Even if the magic had healed his wound, it could not supply the blood he had lost. He could not ignore how the magical constraints also decreased his physical vitality also.
Franky, he wanted to hug Filmina and lie on a bed to recover as soon as possible. However, Agedilus was also stubborn. He could not be so foolishly honest in front of no other than Filmina.
To Agedilus’s reply, Filmina smile as if finally relieved from the bottom of her heart, and softly sighed.
「Ah, what a relief」
Her voice similarly conveyed a deep sense of relief like her expressions. Yet, Agedilus felt as if his body’s hairs started to stand on its end. It was Filmina that was in front of me. He was sure of that. He could not mistake Filmina for somebody else. Yet.
「Who, are you? 」
Before he knew it, Agedilus was asking so. He knew he was saying something ridiculous. As aforementioned, she is certainly Filmina. Agedilus’s wife, Filmina Von Lancent. It is somebody that was unique and irreplaceable to Agedilus. Yet, what was this troubling oddity that he felt from 『her』 right now?
Without realizing, apparently, Agedilus had been gazing into Filmina’s face intently. Had Filmina noticed his gaze. She deepened her smile.
An indescribable chill ran down Agedilus’s spine. While Agedilus was like this, Filmina slowly stood up without answering the question she was asked. She stood one step from where Agedilus was. Then, she started giggling softly. Although it was the playful smile that she occasionally showed, he could not help but feel a sense of strangeness.
While sitting down there, Agedilus could only look up and gaze at her smile. Filmina said nothing to him. She only continued to giggle, and turned one around at the spot. The ends of her dress fluttered, leaving behind a vivid after-image. Then Filmina looked to the sitting Agedilus once again, and smiled once again.
「I am,“Filmina”」
「You are wrong」
Without understanding it himself, Agedilus argued back at Filmina by reflex. No, he knew it. What was 『wrong』 was Agedilus himself. She was definitely Filmina. However, if he accepted the “Filmina now”, he could not help but think that he would deny “Agedilus’s Filmina”. That was why Agedilus could not take back his own words.
Filmina scrunched her eyebrows as if troubled by Agedilus. Casting her eyes downcast as if sorrowed, she tilted her head.
「Are you angry at how I could not protect you? 」
Agedilus gulped upon hearing this almost superficially fearfully voiced line. Why would I be angry at such a thing? Rather, it should be the opposite.
To Agedilus, the right to protect Filmina was something he could not pass on to anybody else. The result of using this right was this current situation. He had no regrets. He only did what was merely a matter of course. Agedilus was certain that the reason why he as injured by Noct was only because Agedilus had been careless. Filmina had no blame. Yet, why was Filmina saying that he would be angry at such thing?
Although at this moment, he needed to come up with something smart to say to Filmina, his dry mouth could not voice anything. Agedilus simply sat there in a dumbfounded manner. Filmina nodded, 「as I had expected」. Then, her eyes that looked like she had made up her mind, pierced Agedilus
「Then, don’t worry. I shall properly destroy everything」
It definitely did not sound like she was joking. It took some time for Agedilus to comprehend what she had said in a serious tone. Even though he really knew Filmina—–because he really knew Filmina, he could not grasp the meaning of her words.
Destroy, everything. Agedilus tried to question the meaning of her words. Then he finally realized. The presence of the demon could not be sensed anywhere.
From Agedilus’s deductions, the demon was of quite high rank. He would not lose that woman’s presence that easily. Yet, he could not sense the woman’s presence not just in the large hall, but in the estate or surrounding area. Nowhere. The presence that Agedilus could sense was his own presence and Noct’s who was lying unconscious on the floor. And one more——a magical presence that stood in front of him that was incomparable to the demon.
「Filmina……? 」
He could not help but think about how much this name did not fit “her”, who was in front of him. “She” was not Filmina. Although she was supposed to be Filmina, she was not Filmina. He could not understand the paradox——rather, he did not want to understand it. It was subconscious that his voice calling to “her” became so dumbfounded.
