「I’m sorry, Edi. I’ll apologize as much as it takes. But luckily, nothing bad happened to me. All thanks to Noct.」
「Thanks to him?」
「Yes. That child risked his own body to protect me. Not only that, he even blamed himself for causing mt to fall because he had called out to me. And he even called himself an unwanted monster child who caused disasters. 」
The moment I said those words, those sunrise-colored eyes of his started swaying. That was probably natural.

Yet this rascal of a man laughed, telling me that was all he needed.
「I’m sure that boy wants you to stay the way you are too.」
「Is that really all I need to do?」
「That is something that is more difficult than anything in the world. Yet, you always stay the way I want you to. That’s probably why that kid…… Noct, couldn’t forgive himself for putting you in danger.」
Just like me. That man continued with a deep sigh.
「I’m glad that both of you are fine.」
It was a voice that sounded like he was relieved from the bottom of his heart. Unable to say anything in response to that voice of his, I continued to stare straight up at his face. I had no way of averting my eyes from his.

I quickly pushed that man’s head away and headed for the door, and immediately opened it all the way. The young boy stood in front of the door paralyzed, his face dyed with a faint pink, as he opened his mouth.
「Um, there was a part in the book that I couldn’t understand so」
「That’s why.」 As Noct continued to stutter, he held in his hands the history book that I passed to him in the afternoon. I had forced him to take it, saying:「You can just return it when you’re satisfied with it」, since he looked like he hadn’t had enough of reading it. It seemed that Noct had continued reading until as late as now. How admirable. Thinking about how we ignored him like that while we flirted alone, I couldn’t help but be filled with embarrassment. It wasn’t that we did anything wrong per se, but it was a matter of the mood.
I wonder when that man started to notice that Noct was standing behind the door. I couldn’t help but turn to look at that man bitterly. That man pressed on his neck, that I seemed to have hurt by recklessly pulling away from him, as he slowly stood up.
「Come in. Where are you?」
There wasn’t an ounce of embarrassment embedded in that voice of his. I envied how he acted so dignified. Or should I say that he was just acting shamelessly? I couldn’t stand it because it was like I was the weird one for being embarrassed.
Ignoring my silence as I struggled with the complicated feelings in my head, Noct finally entered the room, lightening his steps for some reason. That man then peered into the history book that Noct held in his hands.
「It’s about this part, but」
「Ah, this is……」
As he explained the vocabulary and grammar matter-of-factly, Noct repeatedly nodded his head. Noct then continued with question after question. As though completely unfazed, and in fact quite excited, that man taught Noct in a way so patient that even I was surprised. That was really easy to understand. I reflected on myself, having been shown how insufficient my own vocabulary was when I was teaching Noct.
Noct slowly, but repeatedly glanced at me. To be accurate, he was looking not at me, but at my belly. Those yellow eyes of his were repeatedly directed towards my direction and then away.
That man knitted his eyebrows, as if he was about to say 「I guess it can’t be helped」. He then shifted his gaze towards Noct’s neck.

Those sunrise-colored eyes of his narrowed sharply immediately. The object of his gaze was the black leather choker that I had seen the other time.
「You, that’s……」
「!」
As the man pointed it out, Noct gasped and concealed his neck with both his hands. He dropped the book he was holding, making it slam against the floor. Ah. I wondered who the one who whispered that was. Noct panicked and quickly tried to pick up the history book, but that man had picked it up before he could.
「I-i’m sorry…….!」
That voice of his trembled as if he were about to cry. Although, it wasn’t like he dropped it on purpose, so I wondered what he was so scared of.
