Something warm was hugging me. That 「something」clutched to me even more tightly as I subconsciously drew closer to its warmth. The worries and loneliness that had been suffocating not only my heart, but my body, strangely eased. And instead, my heart and body were filled with the same warmth that embraces me.
I could not help but giggle. Then I heard something.「Filmina」. Perhaps, somebody had called me. Mm, no. Indeed, somebody had definitely called 「Filmina」. The voice was calm, tender, and most importantly sweet. Filmina. Filmina. The name was being called over and over again. It took some time to realize that the name was mine.
———Filmina.
Ah, yes. Indeed. Filmina Veer Adina. That is no one else’s, but my name. Each time I heard that soothing sweet voice, I felt the anxiety and fear that had clutched my heart being restored by relief and joy.
Filmina. I finally lifted my closed eyelids after being called by the firm voice once again.
「Wake up Filmina.」
I blinked my eyes a couple of times upon hearing the voice nearby. The pair of eyes gazed upon my face whilst kneeling near the bench I sat on. It had a blend of tangerine and violet that sparkled so beautifully that I almost gasped. I wonder, how many times have I been saved by this pair of eyes?
The color of the eyes was like the morning glow that dispels the night’s darkness. My dear love for him welled up inside me as I locked eyes with his. Naturally, a smile rose to my cheeks.
「Yes Edi. Good morning. 」
Upon calling the name that only I was allowed to call, I was surprised by how mellow my voice was. Embarrassed by how sweet my voice had become, I shyly smiled. He then leaned over and stole a kiss. The soft and warm sensation that I felt momentarily left me confounded. With his thin lips, he gave away a somewhat mean smile.
「Late morning, that is. Have you woken up? 」
「Yes. Thanks to you. 」
What an embarrassing example he made of me. I nodded with a composed face. I could not allow my confusion to be noticed.
Ostensibly, I had slept in the inner garden of the Lancent family’s secondary residence, our house, without noticing. The man — the head royal magician, the hero of this realm, as well as my husband, had apparently come to fetch me. Agedilus Von Lancent gazed at my smile for a while, and then scrunched his beautiful fair-skinned feminine face with probably some disappointment.
「Sigh, another nap huh. How many times do I have to remind you that you might catch a cold …… Filmina」
「Yes? 」
Hearing my name called, I subconsciously tilted my head. The man hesitated as if he had something to say. What’s wrong, I wondered. The man usually likes to articulate whatever he needs to say. How unusual of him.
Tilting my head further, I pressed the man to continue on with what he was saying. After intently looking at my face for a while, the man furrowed his well-defined eyebrows and said.
「Did something happen? 」
「What? 」
Did something happen; that was the question I wanted to ask him. He could not have read my mind, could he? Upon asking the same exact question I was thinking of, the man cupped his white hands upon my face. The gentle warm handles traced the lines of my jaws. I blinked once again, but harder than before. The man laid a worried look on his beautiful face.
「You seem unwell. Is it because of morning sickness? Don’t tell me you actually caught a cold already. 」
Ostensibly, the man had deepened his worries further by what he said, because the man seemed like he was about to lift me up any moment. I quickly shook my head.
「No, no, not at all. Just, um, I had a dream……」
「A dream? 」
Oh no. I should have picked my words more carefully. But it is too late. The man’s eyebrows furrowed even more. I could not help but grin at his frown, far from a smile.
What a waste of such a beautiful face…….no, actually not. This face was somehow splendid in itself, but I was sure a smile would suit it much better. Yet, this man distorted his face as if he did not care about it. What a shame. Well, it is true that I was the reason for his current expression.
After all, I do have a past record of making trouble. The outcomes of my dreams had never been good; rather, my dreams only reminded the man of bitter experiences. Consequently, it was natural that he made such a bitter expression. All the more, I reached out my hand to soothe the man’s suspicions, and combed the man’s jet-black hair. Noticing that the man’s hardened doubts had slightly loosened and his mood softened, I opened my mouth.
「Yes, it was a dream. A terribly scary dream. I can’t think of anything that was is scary as that dream. A dream where you left me, and I could not reach you anymore. 」
Merely looking back at it made me shiver. I could not handle it anymore. How horrible, how terrible.
A dream where this man turned his back and left me in a void of darkness. Leaving behind a gentle, calm, and indescribably alluring smile. No matter how much I called for him to come back, my voice did not reach him.
I rather not think about such a scenario in which this man leaves my side to a place I cannot reach. Then, why had I dreamt of it again?
Before we got married, when this man departed to put an end to the dark Lord, when the news about him was cut off. My reached-out hand only felt empty air, while my calling voice did not receive any answer. Great was the despair I had felt then. During the dream, I was as hopeless as that time — or even greater. What a nightmare it was.
Some time ago, this man had pursed his lips like a child and complained that he was the only one always thinking about me. I say nay. What did he mean by「only one」? He obviously did not know how much I had waited for him. It was just that I was mature and patient enough to not expose my feelings unlike him. In fact, I was the one that thinks about one’s partner the most. I longed for this man more than Uncle Lancent even.
That is why I was utterly terrified. My body shivered to the thought of losing this man once more. I didn’t know when I had become so vulnerable. The man, the cause of my emotional instability, blinked his eyes laden with long eyelashes, and curled his eyebrows as if troubled. It seemed as though the man was surprised about my dream.
「Am I not here? 」
He spoke as if he was telling a bed-time story to an infant. However, the tone of his voice was so alluring that it would be too intoxicating for an infant to hear.
Lifting my downcast face, I saw that the eyes of a morning glow color was still there. I could not find the appropriate words, and simply fell silent. The man then gently smiled in a way he rarely did. It was a beautiful, soft smile that not only I, but even an invisible spirit would be stunned by its charm.
「Not only me. You have a child in your womb. There is my father and the Adina family as well. Also, there is the princess, Yulifalet, and the rest. And that brat…….Noct as well. 」
「——Ah, yes. You are, correct. 」
Indeed. What did I have to be afraid of? Everything was merely a bad dream. As this man says, I was not alone. This man was right in front of me. The man’s child was in this womb of mine. Family and friends were willing to support me. And this estate also had one more person that had unknowingly become family.
「Anyways, where is Noct? I had thought you had been studying with him? 」
This person I called family was a boy named Noct that we had been housing. He was a boy of demon blood, with a beastly pair of ears and tail that resembled a wolf. His beautiful yellow eyes made a nice contrast to his ash-grey hair, giving a strong impression. He once helped me from a journalist from a certain publisher who was pestering me about the unwelcome rumor over my unborn baby. Since then, Noct was staying at our estate.
It seemed as though much time had flown past since I first met him.
At first, he had been wary of me. Only recently had he become comfortable in smiling genuinely. A very small, faint smile, that is. But all the more, the smile was precious. He really resembled a younger version of this man. I really adored the brief, rare smile that the boy gave. In that sense, this man’s and Noct’s smile had something in common. It was indeed wholesome and adorable to see Noct working hard, learning how to read and write. He had not learned literacy before.
