Chapter 178

At Dran’s urging, they evacuated back to Dramina’s carriage, where Sperion and the others looked out the window of the door and asked what was going on outside.

Yachiyo and Fuuko’s eyes widened at the sudden appearance of a prison made of earth surrounding them, but Sperion and Shald, who knew about Merle and Dran, were not so surprised.

They were convinced that if it’s Merle or Dran, they could easily pull off such an extraordinary feat.

Based on the appearance of the three people who had jumped up to the top of the earthen wall, Shald told Sperion the same names that Dramina had told Dran while they were outside.

「Galliol, Dantemon, and Eratiri. Those are the faces I saw in the recorded footage. That is definitely them」

「Oh, I remember seeing these faces as well. It’s rare for Dantemon and Eratiri to be taking action, but it’s proof that the Grand Duke is taking this situation seriously」

「But it is bold of him to send out all three of them at the same time. No one knows when the rebellion in the south will settle down, and there is also the political conflict with the princess.

The fact that he is sending the maximum amount of power that he has at his disposal here, to this place, is an act of lavish hospitality. Maybe it would have been better if we had asked Miss Merle to accompany us」

The upper classes of both countries understand that if several of the Twelve Winged Generals of the Romal Empire were to gather together, they would be able to fight on par with Merle, the greatest fighting force in Arkrest Kingdom.

In fact, the first time Merle really showed her true powers and got serious was in the mock battle with Dran during the Magic Tournament, and those who did not know Dran’s true abilities gave him a lower assessment because of insufficient information, but there was no way for Sperion and Shald to know about that.

Therefore, it wasn’t unreasonable for Shald to wish Merle was here to take on the three Twelve Winged Generals.

However, Sperion didn’t think so. In response to his loyal and trusted friend, he showed a fearless smile, without a hint of impatience or anxiety on his face at all.

「I wonder about that. The me from before I met Dran and the others might have said the same thing you said, but when I think about Dran, who had managed to make Merle talk with such excitement, and his abilities, which I saw with my own eyes up close, I feel like we are in good hands, leaving the Twelve Winged Generals to him.

Shald, you were there when they were fighting against the people from Abyss Dawn. Do you think that your true feelings are so different from mine?」

Shald, who had taken on the mission of protection Sperion, even if it costs him his life, was always prepared to confront any situation more seriously than Sperion was, so he spoke with quite a great deal of impatience.

But despite his words, Sperion could see that there was not much of a sense of determination in his heart.

The Twelve Winged Generals are indeed a fearsome group of warriors, who could be called superhumans with their extraordinary abilities, but Sperion believed from the bottom of his heart that they are no match for the new generation of his country.

「It is as you say. I have a feeling that they will make them retreat, with nonchalant looks on their faces.

Normally, I would say that you are overestimating them, but if it’s Dran and the others, I can’t think that way」

While Sperion and Shald were almost certain that Dran would be victorious, based on their past experiences with him, Amria, who was standing behind Yachiyo and Fuuko, peered outside with a thin layer of anxiety painted on her face as she asked Sperion a question in a reserved voice.

「Um, Sir Leon」

「Yes, what is it, Amria?」

Although they had just met, it was obvious that Amria was a reserved person and not very self assertive, so Sperion urged her to continue with a soft tone of voice.

「Yes, those three people over there who just arrived, they’ve also come here for me, right? And Dran and the others are trying to stop them.

Do you know why they are all coming after me so desperately?

I wonder if I’m worthy of putting all of you in such danger just to protect me…」

For Amria, who had been confined to the castle in the mountains for most of her life, today was a day that has definitely changed her life dramatically, and not just figuratively.

But it was natural for Amria to wonder why she was being targeted this much.

Just like when they were blocked by Aslam and Zanad, would have been willing to give herself up if Dran, Yachiyo and the others were in danger.

Sperion had a general idea of what was going on in Amria’s mind, and then he gave an answer which came from himself as an individual, not as a public figure.

「Certainly, there are a lot of things that you just don’t know right now. Such as why you were raised in that castle, or why there are so many armed warriors chasing after you now, and many things about yourself as well.

We don’t have any certain proof, but we have a rough estimate that it has something to do with your birth. Your birth is the reason for everything that has happened up until now」

「My birth… I don’t even know the names or faces of my parents, but other people do. And so, the way I’ve lived up until now has been determined by that birth」

As Amria hung her head with a sorrowful look on her face, Sperion felt genuinely sorry for her, and asked himself if he was really qualified to help her, but he still said some comforting words to her, hoping she would feel at ease.

「I can’t deny that, but at the very least, the fact that you met Yachiyo and Fuuko and became friends with them, was not predetermined by anyone, but was your own choice.

And because your connection with Yachiyo and Fuuko was also connected to us, we were able to meet as well. Please don’t ever forget that」

Yachiyo and Fuuko, who had been watching and listening for a while, looked away from the window and turned to Amria, and then they nodded their heads in agreement with Sperion’s words.

Amria let out a small laugh when she saw the two of them moving like small animals. It was unmistakably fortunate that the first people she had met outside of the castle had been Yachiyo and Fuuko.

「Also, even though I still haven’t grasped an understanding of their full power yet, Dran and the others are strong. I’m sure they will defeat those three as if nothing even happened」

Hearing Sperion declare that, Amria was finally able to show a face that was less worried and apologetic.

Now then, considering the power struggle going on within the empire, we had a small discussion via telepathy, and decided to stop at just beating up the three people in front of us, just to an extent.

If many of the Twelve Winged Generals of the Romal Empire were to gather together, they would be considered elite enough to stand on par with even Merle.

Even though they were about to graduate, they were still students of the Magic Academy — not including Diadora, though — and to say that four students could defeat them would definitely be a strange story.

(But it would be out of the question for us to lose, right? We can’t let them take Amria away, after all)

Stating that with no room for argument, was Selina. Fumu, if she was thinking about Amria’s safety, then our opinions came second for her.

Of course, there was no way we could afford to lose, but isn’t it too much to think that we want to choose to win instead?

(We can defeat each of them in a single blow, but if I start getting treated like Merle, then I’ll be ordered to leave Bern Village, and I don’t want to do that)

In response to me speaking my mind honestly, Diadora presented a compromise plan.

(We outnumber them, so why don’t we just say that they were too worried about Amria, so they didn’t fight to their full potential, and we were able to beat them?

Besides, I don’t have to go easy on them, and you don’t have to worry as much as you think you do)

I must be overthinking it. I’m thinking too much about my own circumstances, and as a result, I’ve lost track of my priorities. It’s fine to let loose and just beat them up.

Just as I was deciding the course of the upcoming battle while thinking I was worrying too much like Diadora said, Dramina told us her opinion with some slight hesitation.

She seemed to be hesitating because she sensed that I had made up my mind, and if she said anything unnecessary, it might make me lose my way again.

(In that case, couldn’t we just destroy a section of the earth wall, and then let His Highness and the others in the carriage escape from there? That way, we can fight them without worrying about other people watching.

Sir Galliol and the others over there might be wary that they’ll be facing someone from the kingdom who is on the same level as Merle, but…)

It doesn’t matter if the enemy is wary of us. I might become the target of assassination, but I’m not afraid of something like that.

And besides, I promised Lynette that I would clean up things on this side before she meets back up with us. Fumu, I guess I should just defeat these people without worrying too much about His Highness and the others, yeah.

I passed magic through my longsword, the dragon claw sword which I had grasped in my right hand. Selina’s entire body was filled with magic power, and Diadora stopped gathering the unconscious soldiers.

Dramina also gripped her usual sword, the longsword Valkyrios, and exchanged a look with the Sleipnir at the carriage.

It was a look that told them that although we don’t think it’ll come down to it, but if the need arises and we aren’t able to stop Galliol and the others, they should escape.

We only had a few short moments before our chance encounter with Galliol and the others, and we would have to decide how to fight them.

In that time, Galliol and the others seemed to be taking a quick look at us, trying to figure out what kind of backgrounds and identities we had.

We all noticed that Eratiri had summoned an insect the size of a sesame seed and tried to infiltrate the carriage, but it was repelled by the carriage’s protective magic. I wonder if we’ll have to kill her needlessly.

With a mountain of their soldiers piling up, and Eratiri’s insects being repelled, Galliol and the others must have finally decided that we were a formidable enemy.

Galliol poked the pointy end of his halberd through the earth wall, and stated his demands in a thundering voice that echoed from the pit of his stomach.

「Hand over the people hiding inside of the carriage to us. It is unforgivable that you have stood up against the soldiers of the Romal Empire, but if you do as we say, there will be some room to consider the circumstances and pardon you」
