Chapter 197
In Caravis Tower, the gods were conducting their investigation together with my clone, and when the residents of the tower found out the results of the research, they all stayed behind to examine the tower’s management system and to fix the internal structure for use in the future.
As for the clone that I left to reside permanently in the Dragon World, it was currently in some trouble due to Alexander picking a fight from being angry about the arrival of the Drag-Succubi. This was more dangerous than the battle that had taken place between Caravis and Alexander in the past, which Bahamut had monitored before.
I, as in my main body, returned to Bern Village together with some of the gods, Diadora, Lynette, Lenia, Ryoukichi, and Liu Yu.
As I returned to Bern Village, I mapped out the route from the tower in my head and drew a plan for maintaining it, and then I said goodbye to Lenia, who still had classes to return to at the Magic Academy, and to Ryoukichi and Liu Yu, who couldn’t leave the Dragon Palace unattended for too long.
Because of the way they are, I’m sure I’ll see them all again soon, so I didn’t feel too sad about parting ways with them.
As for Lenia, it’s better if she gradually learns to be more independent from me, so it would be good if she doesn’t visit me as frequently.
Diadora, Lynette and I parted ways with Lenia, Ryoukichi and Liu Yu on the way to the village inn, and then we headed toward Christina’s mansion. The first ones to greet us were Merle, whose hair was all tangled and her magical power was completely exhausted, and Dramina, who looked only a little fatigued.
It looks like they had created an isolated space in a corner of the mansion’s courtyard and they had done a mock battle here, but from the looks of it, they must have been having these fights for the several past days.
「Oh, Dran! Welcome back. How did things go?」
Merle had her favorite two wands on standby, and she is completely out of a battle ready position. Even though she should have been completely exhausted, she looked very lively because she was filled with such a sense of satisfaction.
Dramina, who was made to accompany her in these mock battles, looked like she was the opposite, but she still let out a small sigh.
Even though Merle is very close to the upper limits of what a human can do, and Dramina, as the strongest of the Vampires, has far more strength and energy than her, it seems Merle was able to endure the fights.
「Merle-sama, I’m sorry we couldn’t be here, even though you came all the way here to visit. Yes, things went well. Though I am concerned if we can make use of it in order to profit or not.
Dramina, I’ve returned home. Good job with the mock battles. Has fighting as Merle’s opponent tired you out?」
Dramina had stopped hiding her face around her, partly because she was working here for Christina, and instead, she was wearing the Agulurua bracelet that I had made for her.
So that her dress wouldn’t be of higher quality than her lord, Christina, she had sewn it herself from fabric she had bought in a store at Galois. It was a simple dress without any decorations which emphasized functionality over style or splendor.
Since she must have been wearing her divine armor during the mock battle with Merle, there were no scratches or stains on her dress.
When Dramina saw us, the shadow of fatigue disappeared from her face, and she smiled warmly at us. It was a smile that showed she was welcoming her family home, but she was probably also a little relieved to have more people here who could be Merle’s opponents.
I feel sorry for leaving her to deal with Merle all on her own. I’ll have to do something to console her later.
「Dran, Diadora, Lynette, welcome home. Merle is just a little too enthusiastic, so anyone who fights her is sure to break a few bones. I wondered to myself many times whether I should have asked Dran or Lenia to stay behind with us」
「For you to say that much, well, Merle-sama, perhaps you could hold back a little next time?」
「N-No, well, you see, ever since I was born, I’ve never lost to anyone in a magic battle before, so I just can’t help but want Dran and Dramina to spoil me with mock battles, and all the blood just rushes to my head…」
Since Merle’s head has cooled down now that the mock battle was over, it seems she had finally realized how far she’s pushed Dramina, and now she was very apologetic.
Even though she is self-aware of this, if the same opportunity comes again, I’m sure she would still do the same exact thing. I can’t help but think that this woman has the kind of personality that would lead her to repeating such mistakes.
