Chapter 221

In response to Beginala, whose attitude showed that she was still clearly hiding something, Luskrow had answered back with some challenging statements, but since she had formally made a request through Dreissen to ask Luskrow to be her sightseeing guide and show her around Mazelinth, Luskrow decided he would do it.

Although there are other labyrinths outside of the Gujashi Islands, the Gujashi Islands undoubtedly had the largest number of active labyrinths.

Because of this, it wasn’t uncommon for people to be sent from other lands, either openly or secretly, to gain the skills to make use of the labyrinths as a source of riches.

Beginala, this time, seemed to be here through proper means.

In Luskrow’s eyes, Beginala looked like the daughter of some noble or a wealthy merchant who had come here on a secret visit, and considering the natures of Dreissen and the others, they weren’t the type of people who could hide their true personalities.

If people from other lands were to make better use of their own labyrinths, then the value of Mazelinth would go down relatively, but it didn’t seem like Beginala had any malicious intentions like that, or at least it was in Dreissen and the others’ nature to believe that, even without any proof.

「Well, a job is a job, so I have to do it」

Luskrow muttered this to himself absentmindedly.

After he was introduced to Beginala, and after Hanma and Dowben and the others returned to the inn to discuss their next course of action, it was decided that Luskrow would guide Beginara around Mazelinth and in some suitable, nearby labyrinths starting the next day.

Then Luskrow returned to the Adventurers’ Guild, and went to the tavern and eatery attached to it.

The prices were cheap, and the food was good, so it was a place that was easy on the wallets for new adventurers, and was also a familiar safe haven for veterans.

The round tables were nailed to the floor in case any drunken adventures got too wild.

On one of the tables were large mugs of cold beer covered in condensation, boiled and salted edamame, grilled fish, fistful sized pieces of fried Maze crabs, and salty and fluffy bread.

「She looked like a young lady from a nice place, but it also felt like she was used to fighting. It doesn’t look like she’s some noble’s kid running away from home」

Well, if that was the case, then she would probably properly listen to him, and it was a relief that it wouldn’t seem like he’d have to worry too much when they have to work together.

Luskrow doesn’t intend on sticking his nose too deeply in Dreissen and the others’ business, so he didn’t ask about any details of the situation.

The reason why he was still thinking about all this was because as an adventurer, it had become a habit ingrained into his mind and body to assume and prepare for every possibility, and also because his curiosity was starting to peek out from under the lid of reason that usually kept it down.

He guzzled down the mug of beer, enjoying the sensation of it flowing down his throat and into his stomach. The soft shell of the Maze crab, the crispy texture of the flour breading, and the savory crab juice that spilled out filled Luskrow’s mouth with a rush of happiness.

「Man, this tastes as great as always」

Being an adventurer is a battle of stamina.

Those who wield their swords or spears on the frontlines were swinging around genuinely heavy weapons and were exposed to attacks from the monsters in the labyrinths, which would greatly deplete their strength and stamina. Those who pray for healing blessings or wipe out enemies with offensive magic from the rearguard also get severely mentally and physically drained from the use of magic.

Adventurers, regardless of whether they fought in the vanguard or in the rearguard, must inevitably eat more out of necessity in order to maintain their bodies as they dive into labyrinths, fighting monsters in their search for materials and treasures.

Even though he had been stuck in a fog of laziness for a while, Luskrow’s appetite hadn’t decreased at all, and he emptied plate after plate and kept on ordering more food.

He thought to himself that he’s gotten used to eating alone, and he swallowed down his feelings of slight loneliness and self-deprecation along with his fifth mug of beer. That was when Melsha, who had changed out of her receptionist uniform and into a light green dress with a checkered vest, showed up in a hurry.

「Mr. Luskrow, may I join you?」

「Oh, Melsha, are you done with work already? Sure, if you want to eat with me, sit wherever you like」

「I had the morning shift today」

「I see. Oh, right, this is my treat. I did promise, after all」

「You really don’t have to, though」

As he received envious glances from several of the other male adventurers sitting around at the other tables, Luskrow kept his face relaxed while he waited for Melsha to sit down in the seat opposite him.

As if confirming Luskrow’s sneaking suspicion that Melsha used to be an adventurer or was someone who was involved in the violent side of the guild, she had the appetite of an adventurer, and continued to order more and more food from the waitress.

Well, it’s also possible that Melsha was just a big eater, though.
