Chapter 285 part 2

The 29 faux dragons with Glorossa uttered their affirmations. Glorossa, too, began chanting with dragon language magic, mustering lightning as the core.

Countless golden streaks ran across Glorossa’s large black body like lightning. He was bathed in an electric purple magic, causing the air around him to crackle. The roars of dozens of dragons resounded with the deafening chants, filling the entire area with an unfathomable amount of magic. Impending destruction loomed over the battlefield.

With Glorossa in the lead, the faux dragons fastest with their chants finished their task. Seconds before the faux dragon language magic was released in anticipation of the enemy dragons, Glorossa caught sight of the dragons of Mores Mountains completing their dragon language magic chants.

Ridiculous, it’s too fast. Still too far out of range.

Numerous thoughts flooded through Glorossa’s mind as countless dragon language magic attacks were launched at them.

Glorossa’s calculations had been thwarted by two reasons. Firstly, the Mores Mountains dragons in the rear were casting multiple layers of reinforcement magic to the vanguard where Oxis and his comrades were. In addition, The vanguard and rear guard had been taught a special foundation dragon language magic that Dran had refined. Dran had adapted and revised this skill for the dragons on the earth. It served to considerably strengthen every aspect of their current dragon language magic, including the accuracy and power of their magic.

Glorossa’s faux dragon camp was attacked by a flurry of Freala’s burning red heat rays, Oxis’s jade-colored tornadoes, and the bombardment of compressed dragon magic. Glorossa was forced to halt her chanting of faux dragon language magic and instantly channel his magic for defense.

The other faux dragons were divided with their two varying responses. There were those who switched from attack to defense like Glorossa, while there were others who continued chanting faux dragon language magic while evading attacks.

Glorossa evaded the blue magic bombardment heading straight at him. He glanced at the Nyverns’ fight and was hit by the pain of several shattered scales.

The Nyverns and Wyverns kept their distance from the battle of the superior intelligent dragons, not wishing to get caught up in that battle. Both camps had dispersed their forces in the lower skies, but they were holding back from deploying their forces to the higher skies for fear of being caught in the ripples of the terrifying fight between the ancient dragons. The occasional aftershock and stray shot were destructive enough to highlight the difference in might between these dragons of the same species.

The long-range attacks from the Mores Mountains troops were swifter than expected. The attacks were focused on the faux dragons, and these troops barely spared a glance at the Nyverns deployed on three fronts. At the same time, Glorossa was bombarded with incessant dragon language magic.

If this were an attack that prioritized chanting speed and range, with power as a secondary concern, Glorossa would not have felt so frustrated. However, the destructive power of the dragon language magic being unleashed gave them no room to take a breather. If they spared a moment to rest, an attack would easily penetrate their defensive barriers and deal a heavy blow to them. A moment of carelessness meant that they risk being shot down by a single attack.

「Our Nyverns are superior in terms of waponry, but their prowess as dragons is far superior to us! This is humiliating!!! We can’t face His Majesty or General Mazfelo like this!」

Glorossa gnashed his teeth in humiliation as he resumed her chanting of faux dragon language magic to strike the dragons of Mores Mountains with lightning strikes. As he aimed to take down the enemy with speed, he accepted the risk of suffering a few blows as well.

Glorossa was not the only one furious at this utmost humiliation of faux dragons having to admit that true dragons had surpassed them. The remaining faux dragons were shaking with anger and resentment down to their very souls. They forced themselves into a counterattack position and mustered all the magic within them.

In no time, the ongoing battle between the ancient dragons in the higher skies surged with greater intensity. The deadly battle between intelligent dragons were motivated by the boiling aggression gripping their entire species.

The high altitude of the dragon battle made the smoke and flames from explosions, as well as unnatural flashes of lightning and raging winds visible from a distance. Even without the use of telescopes, the land troops of the demon lord’s army could witness the fierce fight between the dragons. They were also receiving information from the Nyverns in charge of communications and staying informed of the plight of their allies without any delay.

On the bridge of the flagship Megyn-class land warship Megyn-Orr, Colonel Malahau, the captain of the fleet, had Quince the demon spider—one of the six demon generals commanding the fleet—on his left shoulder. They were both listening to the latest reports from the communications officer.

Malahau was similarly dressed to Perri who had visited Bern. She was in a military uniform adorned with dazzling medals and rank insignia. Moreover, she was a pale blue-skinned demoness with two more small eyes above her brows. She twirled her right fingers through the ends of her long, dark green hair, though her stunning face was fouled by the scowl on it.

「Our airborne troops are struggling far beyond our expectations, General Quince. I’m forced to admit that our simulaneous land and air tactic isn’t going to work.」

Quince was a general when it came to military rank, but Malahau was neither enthralled nor intimidated by Quince. On the contrary, she spoke to him in a rather amicable manner.

「You’re right, the dragons of the mountains have managed some innovative measures of their own. Even Envio and his company will find it hard to break the enemy forces. Rather… No, I shouldn’t speak of this.」

Quince held back his comment on the likelihood of Envio’s retreat, deciding that it would quash the morale of the fleet if they overheard. Malahau picked up on this instantly, and changed the subject once she decided that there was no other way to send reinforcements to Envio.

「I don’t see a need to change our existing plan of invading Fort Neoridim before the lords of Arkrest Kingdom mobilize their forces from Galois. Will that be agreeable, General Quince?」

「Yes, despite this unprecedented situation, we should not have to stop our march. Besides, any attempt at proposing an alternative would not gain her approval.」

Malahau was prompted to recall Vengitta’s character upon hearing Quine’s comment. A deep sigh threatened to fall from her lips, but she swallowed it back with effort. The military force dispatched to Arkrest Kingdom was built with Vengitta as the core, and the fleet was—to be very honest—just an afterthought.

The airborne troops were a force to be reckoned with, considering the enemy dragons from Mores Mountains. However, the land troops were rather inadequate. The allocation of power was severely lopsided due to the presence of Quince and Vengitta, the most powerful of the demon generals in battles of numbers.

For example, this fleet of eight ships only contained two Megyn-class warships. The remaining were three Yuun-class ships officially used as transport vehicles and three other special ships under Vengitta’sdirect command.

Most of the supplies on board the Yuun-class ships were for Vengitta. Unfortunately, this fleet lacked the military supplies that Christina and Dran were secretly hoping to claim from the demon lord’s army.

「Send the Megyn-Rein to rescue any of our troops who have crashed to the ground. Inform Vengitta that no changes to our plan are needed.」

「Captain, General Vengitta has already sent word from the front lines.」

Malahau silently urged the monolided female communications operator who seemed to be struggling to convey her message.

「“I shall go. We shall go. The radiance of life that fills the heaves and the whispers of death do not halt our march. My will is to go forward. My eyes continue to reflect the illusions of those in search of beauty, and these illusions must be molded into reality…” is the message.」

「I never expected anything else.」

「Certainly not a surprise to me.」

The four-eyed female captain and the demon spider spoke with dismay and resignation hanging off their tongues. It was hard to tell whether Vengitta was aware of this sentiment that she spurred in her allies and colleagues, but she was certainly determined to achieve their goal.

A report of 50,000 enemy soldiers had been conveyed from Bern to Fort Jogan, indicating the number of infantry ahead of the land fleet. However, the Bern soldiers could not contain their surprise when they heard of the news.

Wind carried clouds and dust as Vengitta and her troops charged through the wilderness.

Boys and girls in astonishingly frayed clothing, ladies in bright dresses of fine embroidery, gentlemen in shiny black coattails that gleamed in the sunlight, men who looked like hunters, women who seemed to be doctors, men and women who dressed like priests, old men who appeared to be blacksmiths, ladies in the outfits of singers…

This was a group of 50,000 people lacking in any kind of uniformity, not even in race or occupation. Their only similarity was that they were not fit for the battlefield. However, every single one of these individuals was Vengitta, unified by Vengitta’s will without a single exception. They were “dolls” that made up the existence of Vengitta, tens of thousands of individual bodies and parts that made up the individual named Vengitta. This was the true nature of Vengitta, one of the six demon generals, and the puppet troupe under that name.
