Chapter 64 – Part 1

Borrowing Vaje’s wings, Christina, Selina, and I arrived in a section of Golnev neighborhood, and we were thrown roughly onto the stone pavement of the street.

As usual, Lenia had been holding onto Vaje’s tail. I don’t know if she’d been trying to harass her or not, but Lenia had morphed her hands into dragon claws so she could lightly dig into Vaje’s scales.

The place that I sense the ocean demon’s presence wafting from, was a spacious piece of land that held a four story mansion.

The land was surrounded by a tall fence, with a splendid flower garden of various colors inside. There was a stylish gazebo and a man-made pond with a built in water fountain. It was a magnificent place filled with luxury, but the sight was ruined by the ocean demon’s flock coming out of the mansion and walking all around us.

With flames spilling from the corners of her lips, Vaje spread her wings, signaling to them all that we were under her protection.

「I’ll go destroy those pieces of trash from the sea! So you guys hurry up and take care of these fishy losers here!」

Vaje looked once over at Lenia with an irritated look on her face, who was still holding onto her tail, but Lenia was only looking at me. As she kept her expression distorted by loathing for me, I remembered that she could mask her presence enough so not even a fragment of herself could be detected.

「Alright, I get it. Vaje, Lenia, you two may be able to hide your presence, but if the leader of the ocean demons or the large-sized magic ocean beasts show up, then you must be careful」

「Hmph, those higher ranked fake dragons showing their faces is one thing, but the magic beasts’ numbers aren’t big enough to be a problem! I just want to take on those fake ocean dragons right now」

Lenia, inspired by the fighting spirit in Vaje’s words, began to smile haughtily as she called out to me.

「This one may be satisfied with just slashing the bellies of these ocean demons, but I want to show you a fight that you won’t be ashamed of」

In response to Lenia’s words, Vaje looked like she was about ready to pop a vein, and the surrounding temperature shot up suddenly.

While looking at these two who were ready right now to fight to the death with their lives on the line, I couldn’t help but feel that it was a mistake to make these two pair up and send them to sea.

「Save the bickering for later, just hurry up and go」

I warned them somewhat helplessly, then Vaje finally changed directions toward the sea, and flew off.

And hanging from her tail was Lenia, who kept on looking back at me until they got too far away, waving her hand to the very end. How amusing.

After we sent off the Crimson Dragon princess, we once again ran our eyes over the surrounding situation.

The dead bodies of some ocean demons scattered throughout the street, which I had taken care of earlier, had rolled away, but the smell of rotten fish and seawater had permeated through the air all around us, burning deep in our noses.

「It looks like the townspeople have already escaped. The surroundings are clear of the, um, corpses」

Selina said this with her eyebrows drawn, while she took out a handkerchief to cover her mouth and nose.

My Energy Lane combined with an automated tracking spell fights only the ocean demons that had appeared in Golnev first, so for now, there weren’t any casualties among the civilians.

But if we don’t take care of the ocean demons closing in from inside the mansion or from the sea, then they might end up hurting someone soon.

We advanced into the premises of the abandoned mansion, and headed into what looked like the head of the mansion’s room. Inside was a painting that depicted a stormy sea, and behind it, we discovered a hidden passage that led underground.

We took off the painting, which camouflaged so well with the wall that the hidden door would be hard to spot on first glance. Christina forcefully cut it open with just two slashes of her sword Elspada.

The moment we opened the door that led underground, a lukewarm sea breeze rose up and enveloped us completely. It gave off a disgusting, muggy heat and smell, causing both Selina and Christina to shudder.

Because of my air purification magic, I could make at least the smell go away, but we all understood. Nothing good was waiting for us up ahead.

「I know you’re both reluctant, but let’s go on」

I took the lead, but when I stepped onto the first step of the descending staircase that was on the other side of the door, candles attached to both the left and right walls lit up on their own. It created a dim row of light that reached far down into parts of the stairs that couldn’t be seen.

The stairs were slippery, so if I were to lose concentration for even just a little bit, I was sure to lose my footing and go tumbling all the way down.

For an ocean demon, this kind of slippery floor would be perfect for their feet.

The underground cave led down to a wide, round cavern, which was half submerged in seawater in a crescent moon shape.

The leftover space used to be a cliff that had later been leveled off, and candlesticks that had been set up in several places lit up traces of a glossy luminescence that looked like obsidian.

Standing in the center of the cavern waiting for us as we stepped inside was a group of elderly ocean demons.

The elderly ocean demons were probably the owners of the mansion, as they wore blue gowns, and numerous necklaces and bangles embedded with precious jewels wrapped around their necks and ankles. They were very obviously wearing new outfits, perhaps because they’d just recently come to riches.

「Surely this group of girls couldn’t possibly obstruct our plans. We’ve disguised ourselves among the humans and spread our roots for two hundred years. We couldn’t even dream of them ruining our two hundred years of effort」

「Two hundred years? You’d best give up and consider it a wasted effort. The souls of you people who are born from an evil god will simply return to your creator once your physical bodies die. But when fighting with people of your kind, I’ve learned long ago that even those souls must be destroyed. Understand that you will die without knowing the honor of becoming one with your god」

Along with the gradual rise of magical energy highly imbued with the spirit of an ancient god dragon pouring out from my soul, the atmosphere of the room changed. In response to that, behind me, I sensed Christina and Selina becoming confused.

Because she held the dragon killing factor that was deeply connected to me, Christina especially was innately sensitive to my magic.

「Don’t be ridiculous! We as a species were born to carry out our king’s ambitions. Since our creation, we have always devoted ourselves to that fate. There is no way we will be stopped by brats like you. My brethren, let us be one with the dark sea, the rotten waters, and the flow of the resentful tides! Answer the call of the Elder Ocean Demon Agana!」

Blue light shot out in all four directions from Agana’s raised staff, and in response, the surface of the sea behind him suddenly started to foam, and countless shadows jumped out and landed between Agana and ourselves.

With bodies completely drenched in the rotten seawater, and leaving droplets in their footprints, a group of over 50 ocean demons intercepted our path.

Agana’s staff didn’t just call upon his brethren from afar, it also had the ability to instantly summon a few of them to their masters through teleportation.

「My brethren, eat these invaders until there is not even a single bone left. This place is under the divine protection of our god. We’re different from the ones you fought outside」

It’s true that the ocean demons here were filled to the brim with spirit and magical energy, because they’d been bestowed with an immense blessing by their god.

With the use of a variety of abilities, their vitality and magical energy rose by about 20 to 30 percent.

But rather than bragging like that, they should have just sent their newly summoned ocean demons to attack us already.

Maybe it was because he’d lived among the wealth of humans for a while, Agana’s instinct for battle had dulled.

「Oh snake residing within my blood, stab my enemies with your poison fang, Jadouku!」

See, Selina was already done chanting her spell to summon a magic snake, and had now attacked the nearby ocean demons.

That’s why your fishy octopus-human like faces ended up all surprised and confused, you aged ocean demons.

The magic snake’s fangs pierced through layers of scales and muscle to stab the ocean demons, and pumped large amounts of light purple-colored venom into their bodies.
