Chapter 39 : Drake’s Discussion Matter
The next morning, the four of us decided to leave Plainevelt village early in the morning before the sun rose.
The reason was to avoid a crowd of residents upon departure. Black Thunder has become a fairly popular party in both Recuria and Plainvelt.
We became famous for stopping the stampede and solving the dragon trouble. In addition to that, our popularity exploded when Earl Stedrius announced to the town residents that we had been promoted to S-rank.
Therefore, Sparz and Earl Stedrius acknowledged our decision to depart early in the morning.
Only Barbaru knows about this and is coming to see us off right now.
「Well then, time to go.」
「Have a safe journey! Make sure you win!」
「Yeah! If anything happens, contact me via telepathy.」
We will be traveling on foot. Since Miralda can be reached by walking for about half a day from Plainevelt, we should arrive in Miralda in the early afternoon.
In Miralda, we plan to spend several days looking around for weapons, armor, and items. After that, we will have to camp in the wilds once or twice before reaching the next city, the royal capital Alrain. Following this plan, we should arrive at the royal capital a few days before the scheduled start of the tournament.
As we talked about our travel plans and the items we wanted, while hunting monsters that attacked us enroute, we arrived at Miralda around noon as planned.
As Miralda is a commercial city, it is visited by a large number of peddlers, adventurers, and citizens from other towns.
The city is surrounded by large defensive walls, as such you need to pass the identification at the gate to enter the city.
In our case, our adventurer card serves as identification. But even if you’re an S-rank, you still have to wait in a long queue to enter the city, except in times of emergencies.
After two hours of talking with the peddlers who were waiting in the queue the same as us, it was finally our turn.
「Please present your IDs.」
「Here you go. These are our adventurer cards.」
「You are S-rank adventurers!? By all means, welcome to Miralda!」
「Thank you. By the way, where can we find the inns?」
「Oh, if you go to the west side of the city, there is an area near the Adventurer’s guild with an inn and a bar! I recommend the “Dancing Clown”! It’s a beautiful inn with delicious food.」
「That sounds great. I’ll go there then. Thanks!」
Once we passed through the gate, we found ourselves on a main street that runs north, south, east and west from the central fountain square. Stalls were lined up around the fountain square. The surroundings were lively even in the evening.
We walked to the west side of the city that the gatekeeper told us about and found the Adventurer’s guild and the inn. We went to the Dancing Clown’ and tried to get the rooms, but…
「We are sorry. There are only two rooms available at the moment… If you would like, we can prepare it right away for you.」
「Two rooms, huh? What do we do? I think we should assign them into a boy and girl room.」
「Nn. I want to be with Aun of course, but I’ll endure it. Besides, I think it would be fun to spend time with Shinku.」
「Sharing a room with bro!? Most definitely!」
「It is a great honor for me to share a room with Kinu-sama.」
「Okay, then I’d like two rooms for two nights. Please include dinner for today only.」
「Understood! Thank you very much! Miralda’s food is quite famous, so please look forward to it!」
After that, we were guided to separate rooms. As we have free time until dinner today, Kinu and Shinku decided to go see some accessories.
Drake and I were sitting and talking in our room.
That’s because Drake told me he wanted to discuss something.
「Bro, I actually just reached level 50, but my status hasn’t improved as much as I thought.
I’ve been exploring a different fighting style in the past month, but somehow it doesn’t feel right… Besides, I’m a dragonewt, so I can’t evolve.
I don’t know what to do in order to become stronger.」
「Hmm, is that so? I suppose Kinu, Shinku, and I were originally monsters.
Evolution makes us stronger. And above all, monsters have higher stats even if they are the same level as a human.
I think you would be considered strong among humans though…」
「Maybe so. But my goal is to become like you, bro. Could you give me some advice?」
「Of course. Hmm, you mentioned fighting style… Recently, your fighting style has revolved around flight, correct?」
「Yes. But when it comes to magic, Kinu-neesan’s is overwhelmingly more powerful and has more variety.
On the other hand, even if I go to the front line, it seemed like I would get in the way of Shinku-neesan’s provocation and tanking.
Moreover, you are too good as the attacker. So I can’t decide my role.」
「Ah, so that’s what it is. You were thinking about the balance of the party! Well, if you want to know, then I’ll tell you how I think you should fight.」
「Please do! I can’t think of anything else!」
「Okay. In the first place, I think you are an aggressive short-distance attacker.
That might be why you are so hesitant about fighting at the front. Shinku can pull the opponent’s attention by using Provocation, so you don’t need to worry about that at all.
Also, your magic is easy to use and your endurance is higher than mine. That’s why when we fight as a party, you can attack steadily while prepared to tank a certain amount of damage. I think you actually have the potential to produce more continuous damage output than I can.
Assuming that we will be fighting formidable enemies, this continuous damage output is a necessary element for the entire party to perform smoothly.」
I haven’t met a formidable enemy since the fight with Drake in his dragon form, but I was honestly happy that Drake had assumed that fighting style from back then itself. Besides, having Drake continuously deal damage at both short and medium range should increase the stability of the party itself.
「I-I see. The party was already balanced by the three of you, so I didn’t think there was a lack of damage output at all.」
「There’s nothing better than having continuous damage output.
Being able to end the battle in a short amount of time is also desirable from a safety point of view, and if we don’t give the enemy time to counterattack, it will inevitably reduce the burden on Kinu and Shinku.
Oh right! Drake, why don’t you try using this weapon?」
I took out Red Ogre’s Iron Club from my magic bag.
It has been my favorite weapon so far, but since I’m thinking of using the longsword as my main weapon from now on, the opportunity to use it will decrease.
Considering that it’s a red-rarity weapon and also Drake’s physical strength, when fighting in close quarters, smashing with the Iron Club will produce more damage output than slashing with a longsword.
As a weapon made for smashing, it should work well with Drake in terms of its ability to frighten opponents and to destroy other’s weapons.
「Are you sure!? This is your beloved weapon, bro…」
「It’s fine! I think it would fit you better than it did me! Or rather, I want you to master this weapon.」
「Understood! Thank you very much! I feel like the fog clouding my mind has lifted!」
Saying that, Drake took the Red Ogre’s Iron Club from me.
This was the moment of birth of the man who would later be called【The Emperor of Destruction, Drake】.
