I Became A Zombie Chapter 2
Chapter 2: I am a Zombie!
The smell of blood and decay filled my nostrils. My eyesight was blurry. I could feel the cold soil on my hands and cheeks. That’s how I knew I was lying face down.
(I remember now… I lost consciousness after checking my status…)
Little by little I was able to sort things out and compose myself.
(I can feel the coldness of the soil, which means my sense of touch is functioning. The same seems to be the case for my sight and smell. I wonder if I can move my body…)
–Rustle, Rustle…
(I can move my arms, fingers, and legs. … Let’s try standing up.)
My gaze slowly rose as I tried standing up. I gradually became aware of my surroundings and the condition of my body. My leather jacket was ripped across the chest and my trousers were drenched in mud. The wounds on my body were rotting… Some of my nails and skin were peeled off, exposing the flesh underneath. Strangely, however, I felt no pain.
I was still in the same place as where I was killed, the Forest of Everlasting Darkness.
「Uwaagu…? U, waagu..」
I tried to say “status”, but I couldn’t pronounce it well.
The fact that I was able to think calmly even in this situation surprised even myself.
(I have to check my status somehow. Let’s try saying it strongly in my mind…)
(Status!!)
【Name】Doumeki Aun
【Race】Zombie
【Condition】Corruption, Hunger
【Level】1
【HP】20/20
【MP】300/300
【STR】5
【VIT】5
【DEX】1
【INT】30
【AGI】1
【LUK】35
【Title】-
【Skill】
・Iron Stomach
・Pain tolerance
・Hunger
(It worked! My race is zombie… a monster… I kinda knew it somehow, but it’s still a shock. How did this happen?)
Well, grandpa used to say, “Don’t think too much about the things that you can’t understand until the time to understand it comes. Do your best on what you can do at that moment!”. So let’s postpone that for now and confirm the current situation first!
My【Level】is 1. My stats have also dropped significantly, and above all, my agility is only 1. How long will it take to move from here? By the way, it’s ironic that my luck is three times that of a human…
(Hmm? I seem to have more skills now… I didn’t know that skills could be increased.)
【Skill】
・Iron Stomach: Absorbs and digests whatever you eat, and won’t upset your stomach
・Pain Resistance: Strong resistance to pain, but not completely
・Hunger: Always in a hungry state. No matter how much you eat, you will never be full
“Iron Stomach” is a skill I’ve had since I was a human. Thanks to this, I’ve never had an upset tummy, but it’s not useful in battle. It was evaluated by others as a “garbage skill”.
“Pain Tolerance” is appreciated. If it wasn’t for this, I’d be writhing in pain by now…
“Hunger” is really dangerous. Is this because my race is zombie? Not being satisfied no matter how much you eat is just pure torture.
(So it seems that skills can indeed increase. Let’s move forward with that premise… Next, let’s assess the current situation…)
This is no doubt the Forest of Eternal Darkness. Undead monsters often appear in the Forest of Eternal Darkness, but they are generally slow-moving and have low intelligence. I should be able to manage for a while.
Next, what to do if I encounter adventurers? I am without a mistake a “monster” now. It means naturally being hunted by adventurers.
However, there is absolutely nothing that can be used as material from hunting lower class undead. Sometimes there is a rare quest in which you have to collect a mushroom with a hypnotic effect called “Anmindake”. It is E-rank in terms of quest rank. If I raise my level before encountering any adventurers, I should be able to drive them away.
(Next, my strengths…)
First of all, I still have the knowledge from my days as an adventurer. I know monster ranks and weaknesses. The experiences I have accumulated as an adventurer should help me survive in the future.
Next is my magic bag. It contains enough maps and tools to survive in distress.
(This is all I have for the time being. Alright, the top priority is to raise my level as much as possible! In that case, let’s start looking for monsters!!)
After becoming a zombie, I took off my torn and bloody jacket and slowly walked through the forest.
