Chapter 227 The Bath on top of the Tower
I return home to my tower to take a break.
The employees who want snacks as part of their pay increased. Even some of the ordinary folks who aren’t changelings started to request that they also get snacks as part of their compensation, although those who don’t want any snacks as payment are also given some sweets bought from Nalluahdid…
Almost all of them are older than me, but whenever I personally deliver the snacks, the setting feels like I’m in a children’s welfare house or children’s festivals distributing goodies to little kids. It’s a complicated feeling having all these adults swarm around me, I tell you.
The first batch of immigrants arrived at the island before we let the water flow. It’s not a big city so there’s a total of 14 families living here including the Changelings.
The aspiring immigrants were mostly recruited from Nalluahdid. If the farming folks immigrate, it’ll be like liberating them from being folks who are barely living, hardly surviving taxpayers. Because it’s a commercial city thriving in business, the island is suitable for those people to live in. In the first place, some of them came from different places and had ventured out to make a name for themselves, while some of them are folks who failed in business and had to leave their place. After all, no matter how experienced a merchant is, if his ship sank in the sea then his business might collapse in an instant.
The people who passed the application had undergone rigorous screening by Soleil, Gold and Silver, so they’re reliable folks. The criminals and stowaways from ruined lands had already been weeded out.
The trio are planning to make the first batch of immigrants in charge of the main businesses like inns and salt shops. Soleil might be composed and cool as a cucumber whenever she’s dealing with the negotiations and various procedures, but as soon as the work is done and she’s left alone with Faramir, Gold and Silver away from the public eye, she collapses and cries 「I can’t take it anymore~~~~~ 」, apparently.
Right, maybe I’ll have Khan be the fief lord from time to time. He just has to show his face around here once in a while, and we can just pretend that he’s here all the time — he’s a former king so he’s suitable for this. This island might be simple, but it’s autonomous and has its own castle — so instead of a fief lord, maybe he should be the lord of the castle? Well, castle lords revert back to being a small fief lord if they only have territories and no castle. Kings are supposed to rule over the castle lords and fief lords, right. And they’re supposed to have their own dominion under their control too! Yup, he’s really qualified, he’s suitable for this.
— Oh, the former residents and the workers employed here all know that I’m the fief lord, and my tower will also stand out pretty much once it’s finished, so I guess it’s pretty useless doing that with Khan, huh.
I climb the stairs while mulling over these thoughts until I reach the topmost floor. I stretch a bit so I can peek into the waterway below. The water is overflowing from the canals extending to my tower and is splashing against the walls.
「O-kay. 」
I put a magic stone into a pipe that has a magic circle for pumping water drawn on it.
Water instantly flows out of the pipe and fills the narrow canals, which have holes right beside the pipe. Those openings lead to the kitchen..
The rest of the water flows toward the bathtub, but the waterways are divided into two before the water reaches the tub. One side maintains its normal temperature, while the other side has the glass shard I got from Van. The water that passes over this side will boil, but it’s alright since the waterway is wider here so that the stream will slow down.
Yup, it’s free-flowing, free-flowing it is. The temperature is determined by adjusting the amount of cold water that flows into the bath, and any excess goes through the unglazed waterway, merging with the hot water overflowing from the bath as the water flows down the drain. I don’t feel comfortable dumping hot water directly into the ocean, so this is just right.
Well, it’s going to take a while before the bath is filled, so I’m going to plant some plants that need the water that seeps out of the unglazed waterway later on.
Oh right, I remember blue roses being common in this world. Weren’t those created through biotechnology in my previous world? Its flower language also changed from 「Impossible」to 「granting wishes 」if I remember correctly.
Not sure if it’s because spirits love visiting flowers that they have a wide variety of colors here, although they’re either tiny or quite plain with only a single layer of petals.
That’s why I got some of the roses in my garden and separated their roots for propagation. I also took some from 『Pantry』 — the roses there are initially intended as food, so they have a nice aroma and gorgeous colors. I also got this world’s variety, which has tiny flowers but blooms heavily, and also other species of flowers that aren’t roses.
When I think of towers, I usually imagine their walls covered in ivy. Maybe I should also plant wisteria. And so, I worked hard planting the flowers then I took a bath. It was relaxing gazing at the azure ocean under the blue sky. Ships heading for Nalluahdid sail by from time to time.
Ack. They have telescopes, what a pain.
I request the light and air spirits to camouflage the area from the stairs to the bathroom so that it’ll appear distorted from a distance. Alright, I feel relieved now. This bath has that liberating feeling, but that doesn’t mean I enjoy liberation to the point of being watched while in the nude.
The season for dragons flying over the sea happens once River Es’ deluge is over, so I’ve heard. It’s a bit too early for me to anticipate their appearance. Still, just gazing at the sea, clouds and ships is soothing enough.
I enjoy a long, relaxing bath, after which I’ll continue working on the renovation of the tower. But before that, I drank soda with cold lime and nibbled on a cucumber with mayonnaise miso. It’s a bit salty.
I’m hydrated and salt’s been replenished, so time to work now.
