Chapter 265: Iskal-san and Nefer-san

「They all hurt their fingers. Please treat them. 」
「Fingers, is it? 」
Ash urged Glasses to treat their fingers.

「They tried to dig magic silver with their bare hands! 」
「…Oh yes, magic silver is supposed to appear on this level. 」
Glasses nodded in response to Chris’s comment. He started healing them.

「Oh Nefer, thou spirit that abides within me, I implore that thou heal them. 」
So the White Snakey-kun is called Nefer, huh.

Snake-kun suddenly stopped halfway through, then he bit Glasses’s wrist. With an expression that looked like he’s asking if he’s biting the right place, Snake-kun let go, before slithering to the wounded folks and biting their fingers.

Yeah, he’s biting them. The white snake IS biting them, but will that cure them? Is that the ‘recovery’ magic you’re talking about?

「What’s happening? 」
「The spirit light ball ran along Iskal-dono’s arm during the incantation, the it wrapped itself around the affected area. Ah, but before wrapping the fingers, the spirit stopped for a while, probably getting additional mana. Seems like the healing magic belongs to the contracted spirit. 」
Dinosso answered Retze and explained the situation to him.

Oh, right. Unless it’s their own, folks who Sight can only See spirits as balls of light, huh. So Glasses is the only one who knows he’s been munched on.

Butler can now see Az as a tiny blue bird, so that means spirits can show their true forms to those they recognize and acknowledge. There are also folks who absolutely don’t have the Sight. By the way, Ash can Distinguish the spirit’s color and shape somehow.

There are spirits who hated being seen, so there’s a lot of ways to See, but most people with the Sight See them as balls of light.

Nefer continued healing them one after the other, all while happily slurping Glasses’s mana — ack, our eyes met.

The moment our eyes met, he looked shocked, and he hastily let go of Glasses as if he’d been caught doing something bad. Stop that, you definitely ate more than enough mana, didn’t you!

「Amazing. I already witnessed healing several times before, but old wounds are hard to treat, right? 」
Dean seemed moved.

「That’s because another wound is inflicted over the old one, making it new. Controlling recovery is difficult, but it apparently works well afterward. 」
Glasses answered.

Control huh, or perhaps it’s the discipline? Snakey is peeking from behind Glasses’ head with an expression asking 「Did I get found out? 」… It’s not my business, so go ahead and munch on Glasses as much as you want.

Eh, wait, you’re really gonna bite him now!?

As if shouting ‘Hurray’, Snakey opened his mouth reaaalllyy wide and bit Glasses’ wrist.

「Waning Moon… Deputy Guild Master!? 」
Chris caught Glasses as he collapsed. Hey, did you just nickname Glasses as Waning Moon?

I ended up discussing with Chris how he attaches monikers to people who can See spirits without properly calling them by their name before. He had been completely unaware of it, so he was quite shocked.

「…Pardon me. I thought the latter half of treatment proceeded very well, but it seems I’m mistaken; my mana is insufficient. 」
Ah, no, it’s totally unrelated to Recovery Magic.

Oh, wait a sec, that spirit just read my mind to a certain extent just now, didn’t it? Please stop biting Glasses, he looks like he’s gonna collapse any moment now.

‘Oh, it’s over now, huh~ ‘ with a look like that, Nefer retreated into Glasses’ hair. Is that your sleeping place?

Really, what’s going on with their ‘contract’? Is Nefer merely possessing him? Isn’t it too terrible sucking mana while watching other people (uh, me)’s expression? Hey Mr. Owner, you can See Nefer properly, right?

Chris helped Glasses lean on the bags, then it’s time for a late lunch. The reporter group of adventurers did say that we can freely use their firewood and food and other stuff, so I’m a bit happy. They’re coming back later with the iron cage and reinforcements, apparently.

Our group prepared coals, but the adventurers who went to the surface brought heavy firewood, apparently.

Yeah, as expected, I can’t take my firepit out here. Since they told us we can freely use them, I placed the wood parallel to each other to make a fire bed. It’s important not to wet the fire bed, because the heat causes the damp ground to evaporate depending on the fire, and that will extinguish the fire, so we have to prevent that.

Retze took out a combustible fire bed made of charred cloth. We added some twigs above it, then Chris lit it up using the fire from the hemp wick of the lantern. All that’s left to do is add the bigger firewood from time to time.

Dinosso and Dean didn’t hesitate rummaging the bags of the adventurers, and they took the water and jerky out. Khan piled the rest of the firewood beside the fire bed.

Butler started boiling water, while Chris and Ash covered Glasses with a thick cloak and adjusted his posture so that he’d be more comfortable — uh, that cloak seems to have some insects in it, will he be okay? It’s covering his face, won’t his face get bitten?

Our lunch was simple in consideration to Glasses. Oh, so they put the cloak up to his face to block his view, huh. So even if I made a blunder or two, somebody can stop me before he notices.

I wanted to make a warm stew, but it’ll have potatoes in it! How about solid roux? Consomme powder is barely passable, huh.

I added consomme powder to the bubbling water along with some dried mushrooms and onions. And also some of the suspicious looking jerky from the other group of adventurers.

Retze warmed the grilled trout with its innards still intact while Butler took out the hard bread that keeps well for a long time.

When I shred the back part of the trout manually, the fibers easily come apart, and it’s quite delicious. The soup passed Butler’s judgment and was now being served to Glasses alongside the trout.

「Goodness, this is scrumptious… I’m glad that it’s warm, and it truly has a superb flavor. 」
Seems like Glasses didn’t lit fire since it’s too bothersome.

He has light magic, and he’ll be safe if he stays within the magic circle he draws even if he sleep, so there’s no need for him to bother lighting up a fire, apparently.Ah no, maybe he ran out of mana while drawing the magic circle?

Because we have the luxury of water, we enjoyed the tea brewed by Butler after lunch.
