Chapter 280: Temporary Resolution

「Thank you very much, you have truly helped us a lot. Still, it’s strange that the spirits went wild… 」
Glasses conveyed his gratitude and doubts.

「Lenard-dono fainted at first, so it seems his spirit is the cause of their rampage… 」
I quickly glanced at Dinosso for affirmation.

「It appeared to be well-behaved while we’re on the road and it stuck to its owner all the time. — It probably sensed the presence of the Earth Crawling Snake at the crucial moment. We only noticed it going berserk when all the spirits started acting strangely. 」
Dinosso replied. Uh, it looked behaved ‘coz it was quietly absorbing Robe’s mana.

Glasses was also aware that his own spirit acted weirdly. He probably wanted to dump all the responsibility to Robe if push comes to shove. Gold-rank Dinosso’s words were heavy, but since he only stated the ‘facts’ and nothing more, he probably fell short of Glass’s expectation.

This Glasses guy is a bad guy, he’s pretending that he couldn’t See spirits, or should I say he deliberately didn’t say that he could See.

In the end, other than Robe who was already unconscious from the start, the only person who got his mana absorbed when I said 『suck mana off from anyone who can See and aren’t involved』was this guy.

He must’ve seen spirits as orbs of light based on how he didn’t notice White Snake gnawing on him, I guess? Spirits frequently show their true appearance to their contractor, and yet he…

I looked at White Snake while mulling over this. It was blissfully perched on Glasses’s shoulder.

Hoh, so it’s not like White Snake isn’t emotionally attached, but that he’s very cunning and knows that he’s better off not showing his appearance to Glasses. He’s more free to move as he pleases that way after all. So White Snake-kun is one step ahead in this game, huh. He does look bigger, probably after gnawing that much.

Zabuton already left the Labyrinth, so he should be at the Fortress City’s temple by now. He didn’t seem to have any inclination to possess anyone from the temple, but he did have a long-time spirit friend over there, so he went to say hi, apparently.

「I heard that Retze-san was beside him and he also collapsed, so I also thought the same thing… 」
Glasses laughed nervously.

Well, we can also go along with that story. Whatever it is, it’s great that he didn’t notice the vines that sprang out.

Robe was given the cold shoulder by Dinosso after he picked a fight with the latter, and the members other than Mr. Talisman who indulged him, returned to fawning over him.

Glasses kept his distance from Robe, probably because he learned that Zabuton no longer possessed him. Ah, but maybe that’s his attitude from the start for all we know. He still treated Robe politely, since the fact that he’s the son of a bigwig wouldn’t change.

I was also relieved to learn that the temple conducted Healing even before Zabuton possessed Robe. It’s just that it would take some time since they’d need manpower, catalysts and time to construct the magic circle that they would use for the ritual. Healing would become more expensive!

Robe also possessed a lot of mana, so he could probably still have a career in the temple. It’d be a different story if he could borrow power from other spirits, but he probably won’t be able to do anything without a magic circle. And since Robe probably relied on Zabuton for ages, I doubt he’d be able to draw one.

Glasses said — Retze was the one who asked about it — that if the person Healing injuries let down their guard, the spirit would steal the healer’s uninjured body part that’s the same as the wounded part of the person they’re trying to heal, and this occurs pretty often. Thus, Glasses uses magic circles that he could put in his bosom pocket.

Glasses could also use magic without a circle, but he preferred to use one when doing spells that have higher level of conditions or compensation other than mana.

Alright, let’s make a similar magic circle, put it on my breast pocket and let the folks have a peek.

As for the Earth Crawling Snake, they properly took its heart out first, then Dinosso and the others got the horn, fangs and hide, while the rest of its body was divided among everyone. The bones and eyelids could fetch a handsome price, apparently.

Also, snake lids are transparent, and their eyes are permanently lidded, apparently, although the white snake possessing Glasses has proper eyelids and would even blink from time to time.

The labyrinth monsters’ database of characteristics and dismantling method contained information up to the 61st level as of now, and it can be purchased for a fee. There’s an access restriction and only certain ranks can read it. When Retze advanced to the Silver rank, not only did he read this database, he even read the materials and documents in the guild’s custody. He’s way too diligent.

By the way, almost all the data about the monsters from 57th level and above were gathered from the research done on the monsters that Wolf King Dinosso’s party team brought home. However, Dinosso himself didn’t know the best disassembly method resulting from the research that was done. He’s too carefree.

In the end, it was decided we would go back first, and everyone else would be pulled up all at once. The rest of the folks still had to do some cleaning up, after all. Robe’s party also wanted to leave immediately, but they didn’t want to climb the cliff, so they’re going to wait for the iron cage to be fixed.

We’ll probably stay for another week here in the fortress city for the compensation. Ah, but I’m gonna sneak out, of course!

Alright, let’s defeat the monsters within the labyrinth, yep. We’re already here, so might as well do some refreshing monster subjugation, I’d like that. Oh, but I still have to check the situation on the island, and I’m also worried about the fields.

Hmm, what to do.
