Chapter 370: End of the Desert Experience
We traversed the desert. The moment we stepped outside, I couldn’t help but think of the sweltering temple as a place of refreshing repose.
「Jean, isn’t your get-up too suspicious? 」
「Oh dear. 」
Dinosso commented, so Shiva looked at me, then she placed a hand on her cheek and worriedly smiled.
Shiva’s ice fairy had become tiny, and it peeked out of the bosom of her robe. Just like how Bayliss becomes smaller when in Canum, the ice fairy is also weakened by the scorching heat of the noon-day desert. Shiva’s mana is probably sustaining it? It’s probably cooler inside the robe too.
「Sand can’t get in, so it’s comfortable. 」
Gloves, leg covers tightly covering my knees and ankles, arm guards, a scarf for a head wrap — like those things that ninja wear — topped with a hooded robe. It’d be nice if I also had goggles.
「His inner wear would probably be alright; as long as it’s covered with the robe he’d look similar to us, but I guess he does look suspicious as can be with that covering on. But then, I’ll copy him before the wind starts blowing.」
Retze quipped. He then removed the cloth he wrapped around his mouth and neck and asked me how to do the ninja hood.
I think everybody should also do the ninja wrap before the sand comes into their hoods and their hair becomes a crow’s nest.
「Oh my, you should change the way you wrap that scarf depending on the weather and the temperature, you know? 」
Khan and Hauron fixed their turbans in a blink of an eye. Please don’t compare us to certified desert dwellers like yourselves.
I asked Hauron and Khan to teach me and I learned a lot from them. It’s also the first time I learned that several areas yield water when dug. We dug the sand from time to time and dipped the scarves that we wrap on our heads.
The most useless thing I learned is that when you pee, you kneel on one knee and lower yourself on the ground so that the wind won’t pick up your pee and you also look uselessly cool from behind.
Khan seemed perfectly fine in the scorching heat of the desert, probably because he is possessed by Bayliss, or maybe because he assimilated with the King’s Bough. Dinosso, the guy with the fire spirit, also seemed unruffled, and even Dean, who is possessed by a salamander, seemed fine even while sweating.
Well, I’ll pretend that I didn’t see Salamander-kun licking his sweat. It’s kinda huge compared to when we’re in Canum.
「Tell me if your head starts to hurt or if you feel sick, okay? 」
Hauron also looked unbothered.Hey, don’t you feel weird that you’re riding a carpet when your king is walking?
Hauron was also making a piece of cloth float to create a shadow above Khan and him.
「Is that cloth the same as the carpet? 」
「That’s right. It’s not strong enough to carry a person, but it has the same magic circle. Normally, the ability depend on their size and the materials they are drawn on! 」
「You did your best, good job. 」
「It’s not something ordinary folks can do even if they did their best!! 」
Hauron was pointlessly bluffing.
He might be quivering in annoyance, but I know that he sneakily hid the chilly chilly plate I made in his bosom.
「You guys sure are so lively… 」
「Mm. 」
Retze was soaked in sweat even with the chilly chilly plate in his bosom, while Ash looked composed.
Perhaps Az was fanning Ash inside her robe? I’m not sure if Butler asked his dark spirit something, or perhaps it’s a mysterious butler skill, but he didn’t even have a single drop of sweat and seemed completely unperturbed.
Chris was quiet so I checked on him, and he did seem to be having a hard time. The jaw-loving spirit was in good health, but this light spirit seemed to be in charge of maintaining cleanliness, or should I say making Chris extra-sparkly? Even his sweat is pointlessly glittering.
The kids, Retze and Chris seemed to be the ones who are in bad shape stamina-wise? I also felt hot, but 【Heal】 gets automatically activated whenever things get dangerous for me, so… Ah, but it doesn’t do anything about the heat!
Dinosso and Khan — and also Dean from time to time — dealt with the monsters. At first, they taught the kids how to sense the approaching monsters from within the sand dunes and how to defeat them, but they don’t do that now.
「Tina, you’re gonna get sunburned if you expose your skin. 」
「It’s a bit hard to breathe. 」
I fixed Tina’s scarf as she fanned herself with her hand as she caught her breath.
It already took everything the kids got just to walk.
「It’s hard to not to slip on the sand. 」
「It takes double the effort just to walk. 」
En and Vak said one after the other.
「Alright, let’s call it a day. You’d end up lying down for two to three days if we go on. So, you realized how scary the desert can be, right? It’s different from Canum, even the sunlight is your enemy. 」
「Ou. It’s the end of the desert experience! Good job! 」
Dinosso agreed with Hauron’s words and high-fived the kids as he told them we’re done here.
「Basically, it’s recommended that you set out at dusk and use the moon and stars as guides while you travel. Once you get used to walking, you’ll also memorized the places of the sand dunes that don’t change their forms. 」
Hauron explained.
I didn’t know where they are either, or should I say I can’t tell the difference, but apparently, the ground here isn’t flat, and there are places that were originally hills. Those sand hills don’t change their shapes, unlike the sand dunes that are built by the wind.
「Let’s cool ourselves while we discuss what happened today. 【Teleport】」
I didn’t wait for their acknowledgement before whisking everybody away and teleporting our entire group on Es’ river bank. We emerged underneath the shade of the date palms.
「Whoa~! It’s so cool here! 」
「Water! 」
「River! 」
「Stop, crocodiles live there. 」
The kids froze at Hauron’s words — and even a few among the adults froze too.
Me? Nope, I didn’t freeze, you know? That’s because the crocodiles already snapped at me when I came here!

Thanks for the treat.
