Chapter 470: Secret Talk
The verdure wheat stretched on and on, the leaves and stalks swaying with the breeze. The water droplets sprayed by the Meyr folks sparkle with the light.
The distant mountains had dry yellow soil, and the greenery of the fields was testament to the hard work that the Meyr folks put in. I need to put more effort into my own fields too. I’ll also plant rice once I get my hands on some seed rice in Es!
The Es people handle rice like it’s a vegetable, and they mix it with short pasta noodles for some reason. I think of rice as part of the carbohydrates family, so that categorization feels strange for me.
『Alright, I guess it’s time for me to go now. Thanks a lot. 』
I feel soothed and refreshed.
『Okay, what about your wheat? 』
『Won’t it be hard on you if I take a lot? You need to eat, and you still have to give some to the sailors too. Actually, I don’t really need it. 』
I just brought the green stones for a chance to interact with them.
『We have lots, so it’s fine. It’s a promise, after all. 』
The Meyr folks are really bothered about breaking promises, so I decided to obediently accept the wheat.
『Where should we move it? Or are you gonna wait for your ship? 』
『Wherever it’s convenient for you guys. I have【Storage】. 』
It’s a pain keeping things a secret, so I decided to be honest here
Just like spirits, the Meyr folks can probably read thoughts too. Well, rather than thoughts, it’s more like they can read emotions? They can also convey it too. Maybe that’s also the reason why it feels quite pleasant communicating thoughts to them through gestures.
The Meyr folks were simple and honest with no hidden thoughts or schemes, making me want to treat them more sincerely.
And so, it was decided that we leave the fields and return to the town – sacks of wheat were already piled up high in the plaza. Seems like Meyrs can also communicate with each other over long distances. Oh well, it’s kinda within expectations, though.
『Then thanks for these. 』
I chuck every single sack into【Storage】.
『That’s an impressive amount of mana. 』
『Yup. It’s improved a lot since I came here. 』
The number of things and the duration they stay in 【Storage】depends on the amount of mana.
For example, En’s【Storage】can store up to five sacks of wheat, but only about two can stay in there indefinitely. Anything more gets spit out after about three days. Ah, but I was told that his capacity has increased, though.
For some people, time passes differently inside their 【Storage】, or their stuff changes color when taken out, apparently. There aren’t many people with this ability, so these were cases that Hauron knows about.
『Ahh… 』
The Meyr folks shifted their bodies and water surrounded us.
『This is a message from Mother. Come again after you name the guardian. 』
『This is a message from Father. Let secrets stay as secrets, if you understand then come again. 』
The thin water film shimmered, distorting the scenery around us. The Meyrfolk swayed gently and quietly, as if they’re whispering secrets.
『Got it. 』
I knew that my lips were curling up. It’s a nice little win for me, after all.
The water receded with my response, and my view cleared up.
『See you. 』
『Later then. 』
I 【Teleport】back to my 『House』.
Riche dashed to me.
Here, huh, is it here, huh~ ー He was trying to sniff me, but when I ruffled his fur, he rolled over, squirming happily with his tongue playfully sticking out as he grinned from ear to ear. I petted him for a while.
Just as I was about to tickle his back, Riche twisted his body and bit at the air. I pulled my hand back, but he flipped over, so I tickled his back again and he snapped playfully at the air again. Awww, my baby’s just too cute.
After having my heart soothed by Riche’s adorable self, it’s time for dinner.
Today’s menu is fried rice and dumplings. I crumbled up some scallops and sauteed them to remove moisture, then I added plenty of butter and a dash of soy sauce. In a separate pan, I stir-fried the eggs, onions and rice, then mixed the scallops in.
I took the pre-made dumplings and lined them up in the pan. The high heat turned the water into steam instantly; I covered the pan to steam them quickly.
While waiting for the dumplings to cook, I plated the fried rice into a perfect dome shape. Alrighty, time to eat.
The fried rice blended the gentle flavor of eggs and sweetness of the onions, the rich taste of butter-soy scallops wrapping every grain. The pinch of black pepper added a nice kick.
The dumplings were crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside, with just the right amount of garlic for that bold favor. It pairs well with plain rice, but today I wanna try some beer.
I’ve always wanted to do that “aahhh” moment after chugging beer, so I popped a piping hot dumpling in my mouth and reached for a chilled can of Japanese beer.
Oh, bitter.
I got the vibe spot on, but my taste buds weren’t used to this kind of beer. It’s definitely different from the hydrating beer they serve in Canum that’s mainly for hydration. Ah, but I guess it’s kinda good…I think?
ーI lost interest halfway through. When I’m with Dean and the others, the mood makes it enjoyable, but it’s not that great on my own.
And so, I switched to ginger ale. No worries, there’s no one here who’d treat me as a kid.
Fried rice and dumplings, ahh, bliss.

Thanks.
