Chapter 474: Namina

My guess is that folks associated with Namina probably got hit with something similar to my 【Cut Ties】, so they’re unable to distinguish the difference between her and that Lightball. Ah, but now they can probably see the Goddess Statue in the fortress city of Anoma?

Lightball is a spirit born from war, so she governs swordsmanship and offensive magic, and despite having the light attribute, she can’t heal. Zabuton, as Namina’s kin, has recovery and healing as its main abilities.

Namina, the Maiden Goddess of Light and Purity ー Lightball had been the one I saw right from the start, I’m not the only target; even the deities are affected too. Seems like the scope is even more far-reaching than I imagined.

Now that I can actually think about it, I figured maybe my strength level is getting closer to that of the creature that casted 【Cut Ties】on me, although we can’t discount how the effect of influences weakens over a wider range. So yeah, I’m definitely closing that gap, but who knows how big the actual difference is.

Even if everything is already under control of someone else and let’s say the outcome ultimately stays within the influence of that greater power*, I’ll still continue doing my thing. I wanna eat delicious food, and I’ll continue spreading different ingredients so I can enjoy dishes made by people. Since I hate smelly towns, I’m gonna make proper hygiene widespread. In order for me to lead a comfortable life even when I’m in public places, I’ll make handy tools mainstream. I’ll travel and explore different places so I can enjoy beautiful sceneries.

There’s a huge tray on top of the bed in the attic room, filled with goodies like coke, potato chips, chocolates and smoked octopus strips.

I don’t have a habit of eating on the bed, or should I say the food might spill so I don’t do it, but for today I don’t care, I just wanna laze around.

I snacked on the crunchy potato chips and washed it down with coke, took a bite of the crispy bittersweet roasted chocolate, then munch on some smoked octopus.

Hmm. The octopus is a bit too sour. I’m gonna make some later.

Salty snacks, sweet treats, a mix of textures, and that fizzy kick from soda ー these familiar flavors really hit the spot.

Whoever gave me my『Pantry』might be scary, but I have nothing but gratitude towards them, so there’s no need for me to be hostile against them for now. It’s probably not the deities. These things might’ve come through them, but some of the stuff doesn’t match what they’re governing.

Perhaps this entity had been beside the mountain where I was dumped when I first came to this world. I was whisked away to my 『House』via【Teleport】, so I don’t know where exactly that mountain was. After wandering around so much, I’ve realized that that place isn’t on the『Map』.

The climate and geography don’t match anywhere else either. That place has a cluster of islands and it’s relatively cold. The northern region here is too cold, while the northeastern region has a different terrain. Places that fall within the scope of the deities’ influence should appear on the map, and yet that place isn’t.

All the stuff I got in exchange for my lifespan were things that I desperately wished for while I was struggling to survive. Well, it’s true that I firmly asked for them thinking that I’d have to live on my own, but still, everything was granted so smoothly, as if somebody had been listening to me the whole time.

I don’t like the idea of losing the ability to think for myself, but hey, I’ve also done 【Cut Ties】before, so I guess there’s that! For now, I don’t have any plans of picking a fight with them or expose their existence, so I’m sticking with the ‘just let them be’ approach. If an opportunity naturally comes up to explore more about it or even gather some intel, then that’s the time I’ll go for it.

At any rate, the cold Southernmost tip of the dragon continent doesn’t have that mountain, it seems.

I finished my snacks and resumed my activities. The potato crisps were really delicious while lazing around.

◇ ◆ ◇

「Which place is famous for their green jewels? 」
I visited the rental house again.

I have to stock up for when I’m gonna visit the Meyr folks. Hauron and Chris were in the living room. It’s kinda suspicious seeing them together like this.

「Green gems? Maybe emeralds? I’m not sure where they’re mined, but it’s famed to be the favorite gemstone of Es’s ancient queen, so Es folks would probably be the ones handling them the most? 」

「Tourmaline and agates also come in shades of green! The monsters that frequently appear near my hometown usually drop them too. Ah, but there shouldn’t be that many since the monsters aren’t that strong in that region. 」
It’s about his hometown, so Chris happily explained.

「If it’s manastone, then maybe the monsters from the Halum Strait’s Sea of God.」
The gems in this world are mostly manastones.

Manastones are frequently and widely used in various places, such as for casting magic and also as energy supply to maintain the barrier around the temples. Powerful manastones can be dangerous because they’re heavily influenced by black spirits, so they had to be very careful in following the proper procedure when handling them.

By the way, Spirit Drops, large natural stones, manastones and small natural stones are ranked by price in that order, with Spirit Drops being the most expensive. The strength of manastones or the type of natural stone can also change the value, though. Big, flawless natural stones are rare, so they’re valuable, and they also have some use in spirit-related stuff.

「Halum…? That name doesn’t ring a bell, Grand Mage! 」
Where is that?

「It’s the sea east of Es River, a narrow one in between two continents. 」
Hauron explained the position using the locations that I already knew.

「Oh!! That place with dolphins!! 」
「Doesn’t ring a bell, yet you’ve already been there, huh… 」

Ack, he averted his eyes!

So, normally I can follow the story fairly well but I’m a bit confused here. I thought Lightball was just a name the MC called Namina out of disrespect, but apparently they are two different entities and currently the MC is the only one who’s aware of this? And the author just decided to reveal this now, without any foreshadowing to hint at that possibility? And on top of that, now there’s some High God acting as a puppetmaster who controls all the Deities the MC is contracted with. Which also had about as much foreshadowing as this Namina thing, but does seem to give the story a little more direction than ‘MC vs His Sister’.

Am I understanding this correctly or am I missing something that got lost in translation or the style of writing?

Yea, these last two chapters are pretty much establishing a supposed hidden big bad, in reality it’s just the MC theory and it might be one of those “for the greater good” type, but considering they’ve switched a pretty big goddess, something fucky is going on, we are also not sure why Richy is in the state that his in, the reason given might be incomplete or a lie.
