Volume 6 Chapter 134
Magic Knights’ Abilities
We were now making our way through a monster-free dungeon.
「Hey, Haruto, I noticed something about the dead monsters’ bodies …… It seems like all the parts that can be used as materials have been stripped off. Could it be that—-」
Luke seemed to have realised it.
「Yeah, it’s my magic knights stripping them off」
「……Seriously?」
When it comes to level 80 and above monsters, the materials that can be obtained are of considerable quality. Therefore, I had my knights strip off parts like fangs, claws, and magic stones from the monsters.
My magic knights possess the ability to disassemble monsters entirely. I also had them collect the contents of treasure chests and gather them in the final boss room.
With no need for us to strip off monster parts or collect treasure chest contents, we confidently advance straight through the dungeon towards the final boss room on the last floor.
「Your magic is incredibly versatile, master」
「It’s too convenient… How on earth do you do it?」
Luna seemed curious about how it all worked. Since she has become part of my family, I should teach her the details eventually.
By the way, according to Youko, my knights surpass even the Flame Knights of forbidden magic. Not being familiar with the original, I just thought it was interesting.
As we chatted about various topics, we proceeded through the dungeon. However, it is easy to forget that we are now on the ninth floor, where level 80 and above monsters roam, since none appear.
Of course, the dangers don’t only come from monsters; various treacherous traps are set up—-
「Th-the traps have all been disarmed!?」
Hakua was astonished that my knights had disarmed all the traps to ensure our safe passage to the final floor. They had already taken care of all the traps.
My knights, who can also disarm traps, are ideal scouts for exploring dangerous areas where we don’t know what to expect. Speaking of disarming traps—-
「T-the traps aren’t disarmed, th-they’ve all been triggered!」
—That’s right.
Disarming traps without triggering them requires considerable skill and knowledge. Even my knights cannot handle that level of expertise.
Well, some of them might be able to do it if I teach them.
Disarming traps is a tough task, but triggering them is easy. After all, you just have to step on or touch the traps.
By the way, the traps in this dungeon release spears, open pitfalls, or emit poison gas when triggered.
Physical traps like spears don’t affect wind knights, who have no physical form, and their power isn’t strong enough to penetrate the ice knight’s armor.
Pitfall traps are ineffective against wind knights, who can fly. Moreover, since wind and ice knights often team up, if the ice knight falls into a trap, the wind knight can rescue them.
Poison gas has no effect on the magic knights, who are beings of pure magic.
Thus, my knights are able to annihilate the monsters while intentionally triggering the traps they find, ensuring our safe progress.
My magic is truly exceptional. Moreover, it is very efficient, as it only requires a vast amount of magical power to activate.
Tina’s artificial magic beings are strong and versatile, but they require numerous precious magic stones and magical tools to create. Compared to that, my knights are more convenient.
──***──
We arrived in front of the final boss room.
The door to the boss room was open, and just like on the eighth floor, the wind and ice knights formed a formation in front of the door, awaiting us.
There were fewer knights left than before. Furthermore, some knights were without arms or legs……
This indicates that some of my knights faced monsters powerful enough to cause them such injuries. Considering how they managed to defeat such formidable monsters in a short period, I should express my appreciation to them.
「Everyone, good job. Thank you」
Many words were unnecessary. After all, they were beings born from my magical power. My gratitude should be fully conveyed.
The knights didn’t have facial expressions, nor did their actions show emotions. However, when they heard my words, their internal magical power flowed intensely, indicating their joy.
「Rest・up・within me」
At that moment, the knights transformed back into magical power.
And that magical power flew toward me. Each entity held about ten thousand units of magical power, totaling around eighty of them—all of which flew into me.
I’m glad I expanded my magical channel.
I absorbed all the magical power that once composed the knights.
In the past, I used to release the fire knights without retaining them. When they were defeated or their roles were fulfilled, the magical power forming the knights would scatter into the air.
So, one day I thought, isn’t that a waste?
That’s when I began returning the fire knights, who had completed their roles, back into magical power and returning it into myself.
Then, something interesting happened. Not only did I absorb the magical power, but I also assimilated the experiences of the knights. Originally, when my magic defeated monsters, I would gain experience points. However, experience points were meaningless for me. No matter how many experience points I had, I wouldn’t level up due to the curse that fixed my level.
However, by taking in my magic’s experiences through absorbing defeated knights into myself, I could obtain the knowledge gained by my magic.
While I might not gain experience points, I can certainly gain experience in this unique manner.
This is truly an amazing ability. When I summon a hundred knights, I can gain a comprehensive understanding of the monsters they have defeated—their appearances, attack methods, weaknesses, and every other detail.
It’s as if I split into a hundred individuals, each exploring the enemy’s strengths and vulnerabilities.
But it’s not just their victories that prove valuable. Even if my magic knights are defeated by monsters or other foes, their magical power doesn’t simply vanish but returns to me.
When the knights release magical power through attacks, that portion of magical energy is spent and doesn’t return. However, when they execute a coordinated attack with a collective magical power of about ten thousand units, resembling a self-destructive explosion, most of that magical power comes back to me.
Moreover, my knights demonstrate incredible resourcefulness when facing particularly tough enemies that requires a strategic containment. If only one knight is present, they avoid a full-power self-destruct and instead leave a small reserve of magical power. This deliberate act aims to return even a fraction of magical power to me, enabling me to assimilate their experiences.
The accumulation of these experiences has allowed me to familiarize myself with monsters that my knights couldn’t handle.
This invaluable knowledge allows me to come up with effective strategies accordingly. If the Flame Knight struggles in a certain situation, I can opt for the Ice Knight, whose abilities might be better suited. And if needed, I will deploy knights of other attributes as well, or even send multiple knights at once.
—This method has proven its worth time and again, helping me in defeating numerous formidable enemies in the past. I owe my successes to the collective efforts and sacrifices of my magical knights.
Now, as we progress through the eighth to final floors of this dungeon, I possess information about the monsters present in these levels. Not only have I engaged them in battle, but I have also gained experience of defeating monsters I have not even met before.
