Section 1

 

We were still in the changing room of the men’s bath. We had just finished enjoying the hot springs and were changing. President Yuiga had muttered something while frozen on the spot only with his boxer pants on. Mr. Tsurezure and I looked at him and said, 「What? 」

「Isshin, what did you just say? 」

Mr. Tsurezure asked. President Yuiga said with a blue face.

「The Nanana Collection is gone. 」

At his almost silent murmur, we walked up to him.

「What do you mean, president Yuiga? 」

「Is it really not there, Isshin? 」

「Yes, I had put it in my bag before going into the hot springs, but it is gone. 」

I remember seeing him do so.

「That means. 」

「Perhaps it was stolen. 」

As he said this he ran out of the changing room without putting on his clothing.

Subsequently, we heard the attendants squeals of delight as well as the sound of the mobile phone camera shooting pictures, but let’s leave that part out.

 

After running out of the changing room, president Yuiga talked to the master and asked everyone in the inn to gather in the lobby.

Usually it would’t be necessary to be so quick to action, but since the stolen item was so precious president Yuiga was desperate as well.

Within 10 minutes, everyone who was in the inn gathered at the lobby……no, Tensai and D’arc were not here. Hm, I thought I had seen them just now.

「Erm, Ms. Ibara. Did you find Tensai and D’arc? 」

「Oh yeah, that shorty said 『I have something I want to investigate, so carry on with your gathering. 』, and went somewhere with D’arc. I feel stupid arguing with them, so shouldn’t we just leave them alone?  」

It seemed that Ms. Ibara did not think Tensai or D’arc was the thief. Well, she should have been with her the entire time in the women’s bathroom, so of course. D’arc has an alibi. In the first place, Tensai and D’arc would not have much interest in the Nanana Collection anyways. Most probably she is just enjoying the situation in which there is a mystery and a thief.

While thinking about all this, I looked at the people who gathered.

There were five people in the inn other than us Adventure Club members. The master, the part-timers Ms. Hino and Ms. Misaki, and the guests Ms. Shizuka and Ms. Yukihime.

There weren’t any guests other than them, and it seemed that all the other inn crew were out buying food. Thus, there were only five people around.

「Everyone! Sorry to trouble you all, but would everyone tell me what you have been doing while we were in the hot springs? 」

The five people gathered made a difficult expression. Of course, it would be unpleasant to be suspected as a thief. Yet, at president Yuiga’s desperate expression, they said one by one.

「I was writing in the logbook at the lobby. 」

The master said so. D’arc (who was at the lobby the entire time) was able to confirmed this, so she must be telling the truth.

「I was cleaning a room with Ms. Misaki. 」

Ms. Misaki nodded at what Ms. Hino said.

「Erm…….actually. I drank too much yesterday, and had a headache the whole morning. So I was sleeping in my room. 」

It seemed that Ms. Shizuka was having a hangover, because she said so with a pained expression. It seemed that she does not have an alibi though.

「I was playing games at the lounge. 」

And Ms. Yukihime said she was playing alone at the lounge. I had seen her playing games before I entered the hot springs. 

「How lonely. 」

When I muttered this, she stomped on my foot.

Based on their testimony, only Ms. Shizuka and Ms. Yukihime did not have an alibi.

However, I had just met Ms. Shizuka yesterday. She did not have a reason to steal the Nanana Collection.

However, Ms. Yukihime was different.

「Actually, considering the situation, the only conclusion that I can think of is Ms. Fugi is the thief. 」

Ms. Ibara said so without any hesitation. This person really doesn’t hold back for the sake of anyone.

「True. Considering where she was during the time, it is possible. On top of that, Yukihime Fugi has a motive to do so. 」

Mr. Tsurezure continued.

「…..I can’t disagree. 」

President Yuiga, who had fought with Ms. Yukihime and I last time, nodded.

Naturally, everyone looked at Ms. Yukihime.

「Wait! Yuki wouldn’t do such a thing! 」

Ms. Shizuka shouted. Ms. Shizuka stood in front of Ms. Yukihime as if protecting her.

「True. Yuki is quite expressionless, rude to others, very hard to handle, and finds fault with others, but she does not steal other peoples’ things. 」

Wow, that was quite mean to Ms. Yukihime. Ms. Yukihime herself seemed to have not expected this, but it seemed that she could not say anything because Ms. Shizuka was trying to stick up for her.

Upon seeing the two, I also said.

「I agree as well. Ms. Yukihime can’t be the thief. 」

「Isn’t that because you know her, Yama? 」

Ms. Ibara glared at me while making a disdained expression.

She was correct, but I couldn’t say so.

「Ms. Yukihime is definitely not the thief. 」

When I looked at her with a serious expression, Ms. Ibara fell silent.

 

「Hm, if you insist then I want to hear your justification. 」

 

Tensai said this as she appeared in the lobby.

「Tensai, what have you been doing? 」

「Nothing much, I was just investigating whether the thief was a third party. 」

「Third party? 」

「It seems that you guys think the thief is one of the five people here, but why wouldn’t the thief be a third-party individual? 」

At this remark, president Yuiga and the two others looked at each other.

Tensai smirked fearlessly at the three.

「On top of that, I have already pinpointed one person who is suspicious. 」

I could not help but agree with the great detective’s words. Ms. Yukihime was the most suspicious, and because of this number one suspect president Yuiga and the others could not consider a third party stealing the item.

「Does that mean you are trying to say that the thief is someone who isn’t here? 」

At my question, the great detective smirked.

「According to my investigation, all the windows and the back door were locked properly, and there was no sign of it being broken forcefully. If somebody had entered the inn from outside, it would only be possible if that person came in through the front entrance. 」

「……What, does that mean? 」

 

「The thief is among us! 」

 

After a minute of silence I slapped the great detective’s cheek.

「You idiot, don’t waste our time with this chaos! We already knew that! 」

「I didn’t expect you to say that, Jūgo! I wasn’t creating chaos! I was simply nullified the other possibility in order to prove my point! 」

At this weird line, I could not help but say 「Hm? 」

「……Wait a minute, does that mean you already know who the thief is? 」

At my simple question, the great detective looked down on me and said.

「Jūgo, why do you even question this? Are you even my rival? 」

Wha.. what does she mean? I could not understand due to her unique way of saying things.

「……Erm, Tensai, don’t tell me you. 」

 

「As I said, I already know who the thief is. 」

 

「What? 」

While everyone was left dumbfounded, the great detective, Tensai Ikkyū replied without any hesitation.

 

Section 2

 

Everyone looked at Tensai upon hearing her words.

「Explain what you mean Tensai 」

「I know who the thief is. I am currently acting in a way to prove it. I came here to hear what everyone has to say also. 」

It seemed that Tensai was acting a little differently from everybody else here. She really started asking everybody what they had been doing. Everyone other than the members of the Adventure Club started answering the same thing they had said earlier.

Hearing this, Tensai said, 「I see. 」

After hearing everyone’s testimonials , she looked at one person.

「By the way, Ms. Hino, you said you were cleaning a room with Ms. Misaki, but is that correct? 」

「What? Yes, that is true. 」

Ms. Hino nodded.

「Does that mean you were with her the whole time? 」

「No, I was not with her the whole time…… 」

「Then let’s hear what you did specifically. 」

「Erm. We cleaned the inn, so I split the work with her. But we were together most of the time, and surely Ms. Misaki would not do something like that…… 」
