There are countless things in this world that you should not do. In regards to the architecture of a harmonious human society, conduct that is said to disturb this peace is fated to be oppressed and punished. This is the way of the world.
Not excluded from that are things that a student should not do.
For example: you’re not allowed to break the glass of the school building, you’re not allowed to run away with a stolen bicycle and you’re also not allowed to blow on the recorder of the girl you like.
We are only human though. We might have desperate and dark feelings, and those frustrations may build up because bad things have been happening one after another. It’s even possible that you weren’t able to suppress your desire for the girl you like.
I’m not saying that you shouldn’t control yourself. I also don’t plan to tell you to swallow your hardships and put up with them. However, it should be something that you can smooth over by showing a smile. If you bump into trouble it should be possible to forget about it. You should be able to overcome this with discipline.
That is why I think that trying to solve your frustrations by attacking and hurting others is absolutely wrong.
Those kinds of people will definitely be punished.
That is exactly what had created the human world and established heaven. It was the divine logic that could not be disregarded by man.
Oh well, I’ve been speaking in a weird manner for while now, but what I really mean to say here is; For someone who played games all night and go to school after pulling an all-nighter and therefore is deviating from his duties as a student, even for such a guy the divine logic of the heaven still applies. He ends up getting punished, is what I’m trying to say. Yes, like me….
「Ahahh, I’m sleepy.」
My head is heavy and I’m feeling dizzy. I blink my eyes and the color of the sun seems weird somehow. I feel sluggish and gross. Having no appetite, my breakfast wouldn’t pass through my throat. It’s tough, it’s really tough.
「Hmpf, you’re pathetic Jūgo. And you are supposed to be my rival?」
The one who said this all the while energetically walking beside me is Ikkyuu Tensai, the great detective girl with the unbelievable name.
To the strangely arrogant words of my self-proclaimed rival, I answered cynically.
「The one who fell asleep instantly is barking quite proudly, isn’t she?」
By the way, her assistant Hoshino D’arc (who is seemingly a pretty girl) worked way harder than the great detective last night and stayed up and was dangerously close to nodding off while walking next to us.
Well then, to understand the reason why we got into this situation we need to go back to when we came back from our stay at the hot spring… Yesterday night. With all my worries resolved and having earned some unexpected extra money, I was overjoyed. I proposed to the three people there that we hold an all-night gaming competition. Regardless of it being the middle of the night, I prepared games, snacks, and juice and partied to my heart’s content.
But since everyone was just hyped up, we soon reached our limits fast.
I had also been beaten up by a certain woman a few hours before that. So physically I was hurting all over. On top of all that, if you really thought about it, it wasn’t just me who had completely forgotten they hadn’t slept at all the night before. The great detective and her assistant had also accumulated exhaustion during the Ruin’s challenge the day before. Just like me, intense drowsiness had started to attack them.
Under those circumstances, we should not have held a game-night at all.
As expected, the great detective who was always loyal to her own desires, gave ear to the whispers of drowsiness and instantly fell asleep. Using her assistant’s knees as her pillow, she soon started to let out slow sleeping breaths.
The person with the heroic personality as well, while he did participate in the gaming competition, when I thought he was trying to snuggle up to me by pretending he collapsed, I soon heard a soft and cute sleeping whistle. While I was looking at that sleeping face, I could not remember being as annoyed by him when he was equipped with a Gae Bolg spear, as I was this time.
Just like that the two of them fell asleep. I was glad that the game-night had inevitably come to an end. Rather, it ended and I also went to sleep. Unfortunately though, in this game night event, there was one creature participating who was freed from the physiological phenomenon that humans could not do without, better known as “sleep”. And so…
「Okay, let’s keep it going!」
While playing a territory conquering game, her face was one big explosion of fun and her eyes lit up with flames of passion. She was masterfully handling the controller. Upon seeing a girl smile so delightfully, thinking of quitting was really…..
「Nanana-chan, I’m sorry. Let me sleep already.」
….. there, I said it. That it really was impossible and that I would die for real at this rate. However, at my earnest request, the spirit of the girl that was bound to and haunting my apartment (room 202 in the Happiness dorm) Ryuugajou Nanana-chan said with a wonderful smile.
「Ohh, Jūgo you’re a dummy. If you sleep, it’s not an all-nighter.」
No, but really. I thought that was incredible. The stuff someone who is released from the burden of sleeping says was really on another level.
「Now that I think of it, weren’t you the one who said we should do an all-night gaming party, Jūgo? Isn’t it weird when the one who proposed it in the first place suddenly says something like “let’s quit”?」
Nanana gave me a wide smile, but her aura was jet-black. “Otherwise I’ll blackmail you” With just those words from this earth-bound spirit that loves playing together with everyone, the options 「I’m quitting」and 「I’m falling asleep」 that I had for replying had vanished from my answering choices. It goes without saying that I had to pick the one answer that was left 「I’ll continue」.
By the way, around this time that earth-bound spirit was most likely playing online games with pudding in one hand.
While staggering like zombies we finally arrived at Nanae Island’s Third Private High School, the school we attended. I took off and changed our shoes at the shoe-lockers, climbed the stairs while leaning on the railing, and at last headed to the classroom.
The moment I sat down on my own chair, I was attacked by the sandman.
Arhhhh shit, this is bad. Really bad. It’s impossible. Just no use, I’m going to fall asleep…
「Good morning, Yama-kun.」
「Good morning, Yumeji-san. It’s such a refreshing morning, isn’t it?」
When I was greeted by the pure maiden glasses girl Yumeji Yurika, (our class president) I was instantly awake.
To fully appreciate Yumeji-san’s dazzling smile, my eyes were wide open. The drowsiness was completely blown away. Yumeji-san turned her eyes towards Tensai, who was just sitting down at her desk next to me.
「Tensai-san, there is a visitor for you in the hallway.」
When she was told this by Yumeji-san, Tensai turned her eyes towards the hallway. When I also looked that way, I saw a girl suddenly bow her head. According to the color of her tie, she seemed to be a first-year.
「Hmm, you have my thanks, Yumeji-dono.」
As she stood up from her chair, Tensai lightly put up her hand to the girl and walked that way.
「Could that be an acquaintance of hers?」
「Really unexpected, isn’t it?」
Both me and Yumeji-san were very curious about this girl from the year below us who came to visit Tensai. She was normally completely out of place in the class and not even close to having friendly relationships with her classmates.
The girl who started to talk to Tensai about something bowed her head countless times and handed Tensai something that looked like an envelope. Finally, she bowed one last time and then left.
What did you get? I stared at her, but Tensai was absolutely not planning to move from that spot. In the same pose in which she had received the envelope, she stood there unmoving.
「I wonder what is going on with Tensai-san?」
Upon seeing Tensai stand there unmoving from behind, Yumeji-san and I tilted our heads and the school bell rang. Our classmates began to take their seats one after the other and Yumeji-san said 「Well then, till later.」and went back to her own seat as well.
