  Certainly, that sort of thinking was crucial. In this best-out-of-50 tournament, I had already embraced and anchored the idea that I would never be able to win against Nanana-chan’s exhibition of great luck. However, that idea was not true.

「Whatever the method, there is a way to win.」

  Yes, the chance of winning was not zero.

「Do you want to win against Nanana-chan that badly?」

「I really do. I mean, Nanana-dono has been seriously saying that she will absolutely win. Then shouldn’t I crush that absolute belief of hers? Let’s see with what kind of expression Nanana-dono will make up excuses when she loses? I’m already looking forward to it.」

「At any rate, hearing Nanana-chan say something so cocky was a bit unexpected to me too.」

  I was really surprised by Nanana’s declaration of sure victory when we started playing cards.

「Ehh, how does that work?」as I thought that, but then it lead to me thanking 「perhaps…」

  For sure, I had felt a great sense of uncertainty from Nanana-chan’s words when we started playing cards. She had been strangely full of confidence, almost as if she wanted to declare that she was certain she couldn’t lose. She gave off this aura when she took on Tensai’s challenge and conditions.

  I had been thinking that it showed Nanana-chan’s absolute confidence in herself. However, it was also possible to interpret it as a method to try and liven up the mood, as Tensai had said.

「This is also true of the special rule that she would get 10 times the amount of minus points. I bet she did not suggest that to brag about her overwhelming strength in this game either. She just wanted to give us a chance.」

  It was true that Nanana-chan had said that if she were to play cards with us, the party’s atmosphere would be spoiled. That had to do with the unthinkable luck that god had blessed her with. That’s why I had misunderstood when Nanana-chan had suggested such rules, with the goal of spicing up the game a bit more, in order to enjoy herself a bit more. However, it seemed like the complete opposite: she did it in order to be able to play on equal grounds with us….. or no, could it be that she had suggested these rigorous rules in order to give us even a little bit more of a chance to win? In short, they had not been egocentric suggestions, but statements with concern for the rest of us? That was madness….. However, it was indeed due to those special rules that even in the last round of the best-out-of-50 tournament I had not lost hope yet. That was a fact.

  If it wasn’t for those rules, then we would have raised our white flag of surrender a long time ago.

「However, suppose what you are saying is true, would she make that sort of statement about it?」

  This was almost like a goddess suggesting some rules so that the humans could keep up with her.

  Tensai chuckled.

「It means Nanana-dono is very well aware of what sort of being she is. She is way ahead of any of us.」

  She was considering how much fun everyone was having, over her own fun. I do think that is a lot more like her. But even so….

「…… this, are you sure this isn’t just her way of looking down on us?」

「I’m afraid I’m not mistaken. Regardless of what we think about it, this seems to be her intention.」

  Then why is she doing something so troublesome? There was only one reason I could think of.

「You are saying that she went this far just for us all to enjoy playing cards together?」

  Giving herself a heavy handicap, accepting all Tensai’s conditions for the penalty’s she would be given if she loses the game. If she went this far then she must have really wanted to play with us. Thinking back on it now, at all the important strategic moments of the game Nanana-chan had been grinning. Tensai’s suggestion had also made her smile. At that moment it had looked like she would ruin the mood if she rejected the deal, which she might have been anxious about. It might even be that this sort of bargaining in itself was fun to her. In the end it was impossible to know her real intention with that. In any case, one thing could be said with certainty: Nanana-chan, who could not take a single step outside the door of apartment 202, was enjoying playing cards with the gang that had come to the room.

「Geez, it turned out like this even tho she said that she didn’t like playing cards.」

  She really was a lonely ghost.

「Well, then we have no choice but to try and make her lose this game don’t we?」

  If we’re talking about what makes for the sheer excitement of playing cards with friends, there’s no doubt that lies in the fact that you don’t know if you will win or lose. You don’t know how it will turn out, that’s why playing cards with everyone is so much fun. However, it is said that during her lifetime she never lost at playing cards…. or no, she was never able to lose.

  In that case this was a good opportunity for her, because we were going to teach her what it’s like to lose.

「….. but, saying it is much easier than doing it…」

  We were free to think what we want, and we’re also free to say it. But actually doing it, that’s an entirely different story. Unfortunately, even a cheater like me could not come up with a plan to make Nanana-chan lose.

「Tensai, how are you planning to win from Nanana-chan?」

「Why are you two so late? You weren’t messing around or anything out there were you?」

  When we went back inside, Nanana-chan greeted us with a somewhat amused smile.

「What! There’s no way we would be doing something like that!」

  She saw how Tensai was panicking, and laughed cheerfully. I unintentionally raised my hands at her attitude.

「Uhm, Nanana-chan, even if we were actually doing something like that, why are you laughing?」

「Hm? Is there anything weird about that?」

「No, I was just thinking that from your point of view, it would make more sense to be mad about it?」

  Aren’t you the type of character that has a thing for that, Nanana-chan?

「Not really. Isn’t it a good thing to be in love? Couples are always super happy! <3 I just really dislike the perverted behaviors of boys with one-sided crushes. An example of someone like that would be Juugo, or Juugo, or…」

「Yes sorry, I’m sorry, I said I’m sorry…..」

  I see. So that’s the kind of thing it was. I will keep that in mind.

  And like that, we finally started our final game. According to the turn-order, it was me dealing the cards this round. I immediately started dealing the cards, but as I was about to do so Nanana-chan raised her hand and asked for attention.

「Can I make another suggestion for the final round?」

「What is it, Nanana-dono?」

「Before dealing the cards for the last round, let’s all take turns to shuffle the deck. To make sure there isn’t some idiot shamelessly rigging the cards. 」

  I averted my gaze and whistled. No, I won’t do such a thing. It did cross my mind and I made some preparations to do it, but I was really not going to.

「I don’t mind.」
