「Okay then, a quartet of Aces, a quartet of 3’s, a quartet of Queens and lastly I have one 7. It’s my win ♪.」

  A combination attack of quartets, and then a 7.

It was truly the quickest way of having 4 consecutive moves. Not a single person existed that would be able to interfere with this combination of cards. Tensai’s plan to utterly defeat Nanana-chan had been perfect, but even before we were able to start executing it, everything had already ended.

  If we couldn’t win with luck, we would win with reason.

   However, to completely shut down the perfect application of reason to winning this game took a divine amount of luck.

  Unchanged from when she had been alive, the earthbound spirit that held the most skill and the most luck, Ryuugajou Nanana. In front of her, we were the ones that suffered utter defeat.

  After everything had ended, Nanana-chan looked at each of us. Once more she was grinning about her perfect win.

「I had more than enough fun.」

「Same here.」

「Absolutely. It was a conclusion like I have never seen before, Nanana-dono.」

  I recognized that the three of us had truly had a good time, but at the same time I swore to myself that I would never play cards with Nanana-chan ever again.

「Well then, Nanana-dono. What sort of penalty do I have to undergo for losing the game?」

  Tensai asked Nanana-chan about the punishment she would get for losing the final round of the game. Nanana-chan giggled at her.

「Fufufu, then it’s now time to announce the penalty that Tensei-chan will receive.」

  Tensai audibly swallowed.

 「Tensai-chan’s punishment will be…. 『Two times every week, you need to come over to have dinner.』That’s it.」

Nanana-chan smiled broadly when she made the announcement and the three of us felt a pang of relief.

「Is it really okay if it’s just that?」Tensai responded with this question without thinking.

「I wouldn’t say it’s “just that”, I think this is a pretty serious penalty to give you.」

「How so?」I butted into the conversation, and Nanana-chan pouted her lips.

「Well, that’s because I’m super duper feared by everyone.」

「ehh, you are?」

「Of course I am! The ghost of Happiness dorm room 202, it’s a pretty popular story for that reason. Just think of it, an earth-bound spirit that you can actually see so clearly and even touch, there’s no questioning I’m terrifying.」

「Juugo, even you seemed pretty scared of my in the beginning, weren’t you?」She retaliated at me saying「I definitely haven’t forgotten about that.」

  But I was able to keep the conversation moving by saying something like 「It was such a long time ago, I don’t remember anymore.」

「That’s why this is a scary penalty for Tensai-chan. She has to meet me, and I am very scary. Two times every week.」

  Nanana-chan, the terrifyingly scary earthbound spirit,  giggled again, but Tensai did not seem to agree with this arrangement.

「There is no way I am accepting such a mild punishment. I just have to come over to eat? Are you trying to look out for me, Nanana-dono? If so, you are sorely mistaken. You must be looking down on me! I, Ikkyuu Tensai, and my pride as a great detective will not forgive you if you for giving me this sort of cheap pity and….」

「Then instead you could also dress up as a magical girl and protect the peace of this island, is that okay for you?」

「Okay, I get it. I will make sure to be here twice a week to have dinner.」

  It was a fast response. She was very quick to abandon her pride. You really don’t want to wear a magical girl costume, do you now?

「Are you sure?」Nanana-chan looked at Tensai with an unsure expression, and Tensai nodded.

「Why are you insisting, Nanana-dono. A great detective doesn’t go back on her word.」

  For some reason the great detective answered without paying any mind to how self-deprecating that sounded. She was on her best behavior again.

However, exactly at the moment that Tensai said those words, Nanana-chan shouted 「YES!」and threw her hands in the air in delight. She must have been pretty happy. Just like that, Nanana-chan embraced Tensai.

「Ahhhh, I’m so happy ♪. I’m looking forward to when you come over to hang out, Tensai-chan.」

  As Nanana-chan hugged her with a smile on her face, Tensai looked surprised and flustered.

  The great detective turned red up to her ears. She was not used to this level of physical contact at all. She was really a troublesome little detective.

  The great detective’s assistant, D’Arc, also smiled and said 「I’m glad it all ended well, Tensai.」

  When I laughed and said this, everyone’s gaze focused on me.

  Seeing the three of them whispering about such scary things with frowns on their faces, I swallowed loudly.

「Ehm….. let me just ask this before hearing about the punishment, just in case: do I really have to do it?」

「Yes.」All three of their voices sounded in perfect unison.

  After a few days, the local news channel that was limited to Nanae Island『Good morning Nanae』was featuring me.
