  After that it was decided that we would play the game fifty times and the one who loses the game would get one chip. But we don’t have enough chips for that so we decided to use oreos (Since they were in the bag of sweets that Tensai and D’arc had brought. And because they kinda look like chips). 

  And the special rule that Nanana-chan was talking about (that she would lose if she lost even one game) didn’t make sense if we were going to play fifty times. So it was changed to Nanana-chan getting ten oreos if she loses once. (even that seemed tough) And at last Daihinmin began with horrible penalties as the anti. 

  And we were soon made to realize where the confidence of Nanana-chan came from.

「And, finished.」

  The three of us, excluding Nanana-chan, were nothing other than dumbfounded. The reason for that was that Nanana-chan was insanely strong. The only explanation is that it is abnormal.

  Whether it is Daihinmin, or another card game (or rather any gambling type of game) the important skills are luck and strategy. Out of those two, “strategy” could be learned with understanding and experience. “Luck” though is impossible to learn. The only option is to, well, leave it up to luck. “The one who is luckier at that time, becomes the winner.” Exactly as those words describe, the phenomenon called “luck” is fickle and influences the outcome of the game more than anything.

  And Nanana-chan had an absurd amount of this crucial “luck”.

  A four-of-a-kind consisting of two five’s and two jokers. In Daihinmin everyone was dealt four of these cards randomly before the game begins. The hand of cards that you are dealt at this moment ends up determining whether you have the advantage in this game. Truly god only knows what kind of hand you are dealt; the only option is to trust your luck.

  And in this scenario, very strong cards kept finding their way into Nanana-chan’s hands. Without exception, in every game.

  But I’m not done speaking yet, it was not only that. Nanana-chan was also too good to be able to deny it in terms of strategy. She skillfully maneuvered the cards she was given through her sheer good luck, and completely dominated every game.

  There were absolutely no holes in her strength, and by the time we finished 10 rounds of our current 50-round tournament, she won 9 games and came in second only once. She beat our asses with these extremely good results.

  On the other side of the spectrum was D’arc, in the last place of our current tournament. At this early stage he had already been in last place 7 times, and was in a desperate situation.

  At this time, the three of us (excluding Nanana-chan) all had the same thought: “We are screwed”. In this game, no matter how anyone might look at it, the fact that the special rule of Nanana-chan getting 10 points for a loss giving her a tremendous disadvantage could not be denied. The only person I wanted to see receive the loser’s punishment was Nanana-chan.

  I wanted Nanana-chan to let us have some of her pudding. For that reason only was I now betting in this gambling house of hell.

  But no matter how I looked at it Nanana-chan’s strength was abnormal. That was going to burst my expectation like a bubble.

  That is why, in order to be fed pudding by Nanana-chan while she would be wearing a young-wife styled apron saying “say aaah”, for the sake of such a sublime goal, I sold my soul to the devil.

「I’m going to the toilet for a bit.」

  At a small pause in the game that I deemed all right for this, I stood up and also pulled the arm of D’arc who was sitting next to me to the left.

「Eh, what is it, Juugo-kun?」

「Come with me to the toilet together.」

  Of course, us doing this surprised the two girls.

「Wait. What are you saying, Juugo?!」

Then we would attack in such a way that Nanana-chan would not get the initiative of a turn, and back each other up. We would use the fact that we know the cards in each other’s hands well in order to use the maximum extent of the “bind” rule to create favorable development in the game.

  My secret agreement with D’arc showed its fruits soon after we restarted the game.

D’arc constant overwhelming losses changed. Tensai, who had been getting moderately satisfactory results until now, was starting to lose as well. And what’s more, sporadically either me or D’arc was taking first place. It looked as if the tables had turned.

  However, that is as far as it got.

  Depending on how well we were working together, either of us could take first place, or both of us could avoid getting last place, but we were never able to make Nanana get the last place. Because we were working together, we were able to fight effectively. However, when one of us had won, the one that remained had no choice but to fight on his own. That is where we always ended up getting beaten by Nanana-chan, who tended to have a few strong cards up her sleeve.

  It was no use. There was no saving this situation.

  I panicked, but then I came up with an even more intense plan of attack.

  When it was my turn to deal the cards, I made sure that Nanana-chan would not get any of the strong cards. In short, I was 100% cheating. 

  When the game ended, at the time the cards were all being gathered together, I would intentionally separate the strong cards from the weak cards. That way, at the time I would deal the cards, I could give me and D’arc the mostly stronger cards, while the remainder of the deck with mostly weaker cards would end up in the hands of the other two. It took a bit of skill, but it was not at all difficult. I just made sure not to shuffle the separated cards too much with the main deck. Then, I held the cards at the top, and started dealing from the bottom of the deck. That’s all it took.
